CH: 1 (Fluid properties)

1. A circular disk of 0.3 m diameter and weighting 50N is kept on an inclined


surface with a slope of 30. The space of 2 mm between disk and inclined
surface is filled with oil of dynamic viscosity 1.0 N.s/m2. What force will be
required to pull the disk up the inclined plane at a velocity of 0.5 m/s.

kN/m2 what will be the new difference in level of mercury.

fitting to the top of the buoy. If this unit has amass of 55 Kg what is the
maximum height of its center of gravity above the top of buoy if the whole
assembly is not to be unstable, note: the center of volume of a cone of height h

8- A rectangular pontoon 6m by 3 m in plan floating in water has a depth of


immersion of 0.9 m & is subjected to a torque of 7600N.m about the longitudinal axis.
If the center of gravity is 700mm up from the bottom, estimate the angle of heel.

Show that it will not float with its axis vertical in sea water of density 1025
kg/m3. If one end of a vertical chin is fastened to the base, find the tension

from its base.
