Computer setup:
a. There are two computers near the wall, and 26 active.
The two computers near the wall are:
1. Solidworks Server
This computer contains the licenses for Solidworks. It m
ust be on at all times and connected to the in-house network and named B2-11 or
Solidworks will not work. No students are allowed to use this computer, and to r
educe the imaging size, a lot of student programs were removed.
If the adminstration requests to install a new version o
f Solidworks which is a *very bad idea,* this is the license server for it.
There are only 20 licenses, despite there being 26 compu
ters, meaning all computers cannot access Solidworks at the same time. No licens
es can be loaned out.
You can only activate Solidworks 3 times before the lice
nse needs to be reset. I had recently reset it, so it is on #1. Dr. Qiu has the
codes.
2. Image Server
This is a Linux PC. The username is admin, and the passw
ord should be bme@7216
On the desktop, there is a single folder called "Clonezi
lla". This folder houses an imaged copy of a single hard drive copy the students
use, and a copy of the Solidworks server. Right click on this folder, and make
sure the share permissions are on.
When an update is performed, this clean image is cloned
to a computer, updates are made, as are new permissions, accounts, and installat
ions. All computers can be updated and re-imaged in a day, and you can sit on yo
ur thumbs the rest of the time. *Avoid running admin commands in the student spa
ce. The permission access is irreversible.*
To restore the image, you must use Clonezilla. Use YUMI
to image the Clonezilla ISO to a USB flash drive, and load it on a PC from the R
AM (in other options). Once you see text on a blue screen, you can remove the dr
ive. Pick one PC, and do the following:
Select:
+ English
+ Don't touch keymap
+ Start Clonezilla
+ device-image
+ samba server
+ dhcp
+ *I do not remember the IP address of t
he Linux PC, but it is static, so on that PC, just type ifconfig in terminal, an
d it should give the PC local ip address (192.168.?.?)*
Type that in.
+ The domain should be BME
+ Account is admin
+ Directory should be /Clonezilla/ or /w
atches/Clonezilla
If your share permissions are wr
ong, then you will get an error regarding partimg
+ You will get a list of options, and se
lect "restoredisk"
+ Just hit enter a few times, type the i
mage name
+ Select sda (160 GB drive; only one)
+ And wait.
>> I would not do this this time around. We made a change regarding PSpice, and
I would just find a PC that passes the MS virus scan, and copy that image to all
of the other PCs. Those directions are lower down.
Once the image restores, log into the admin, and make su
re of the following:
+ Windows says "activated."
+ If you need to make changes to the fil
es that are deleted, there is a folder where there is a file where you add the f
ile name types, and run the replacer so that students can't delete the file due
to it's permissions.
+ Update all programs at once with a Nin
ite installer. This is a great site for autoupdating.
+ Solidworks and MATLAB should not requi
re an upgrade. Upgrading MATLAB past 2012 it not advised, unless it is ultimatel
y necessary.
The KMS server is the licensing server that Windows 7 us
es to license these PCs. To use it:
+ Press Start
+ Type cmd
+ Right click on command prompt
+ Run as administrator
+ You should see C:\Windows\System32 >
If you don't, you did it wrong.
+ Type: slmgr.vbs -skms 134.74.226.226:1688
+ Type: slmgr.vbs /ato
You may have to wait a few days for Windows to activate
itself. In the meantime, make sure no students use this PC.
The Solidworks server image should not be updated at all
. It should not be used by you, or students for personal things.
3. Imaging the other PCs.
Once you have completely set up the image on one PC, spr
ead the image to other PCs.
1. Boot Clonezilla to RAM on both PCs.
2. On the SOURCE PC, boot Clonezilla, and select:
device-device
beginner
disk_to_remote_disk
select dhcp
choose the 160GB disk (usually SDA)
hit enter twice
stuff in yellow should come up, and you will get
a "we will start to clone to target"
REMEMBER THE 192.168.1.### address that comes up
on this pc.
3. On the DESTINATION PC
Enter_shell
(2) Enter Command prompt
Switch to root by typing: sudo su - or su
Type ocs-live-netcfg and type an ip address lik
e 192.168.1.200 (unlikely number to be used by DHCP)
ocs-onthefly -s <IP ADDRESS FROM SOURCE PC> -t s
da
