TECHNOLOGY VS TECHNIQUES

Abstract:
The use of technology in the education industry has never been greater than in todays
digital age. Since the explosion of the Internet in the 1990s, technology has had an ever increasing
impact on the classroom environment. Various different types of technology are being used to
support and enhance learning. Some examples include laptops, hand-held computers, and
smartphones, audio and visual content. Due to the universal nature of technological
developments, students from all over the world are growing up in a digital age where they have
constant exposure to a variety of media that is impacting the way they interact and use
information
Although technology symbolizes advancement in human knowledge, it is seen as a setback by
many Educators. They argue that the student teacher- dynamic has drastically changed where
the role of the Teacher has greatly diminished due to the increased use of technology in
classrooms. Moreover, technology if not implemented properly can have a negative impact on
the overall student learning experience. Through this paper, we are going to explore the major
issues relating to the use of technology in education and also aim to provide a framework to
incorporate educational technology in the most effective and efficient manner.
Introduction:
Technology in education is most simply and comfortably defined as an array of tools that might
prove helpful in advancing student learning and may be measured in how and why individuals
behave. Educational Technology relies on a broad definition of the word "Technology."
Technology means scientific knowledge and skills used in manufacturing processes
Technology can refer to material objects of use to humanity, such as machines or hardware, but
it can also encompass broader themes, including systems, methods of organization, and
techniques. Some modern tools include but are not limited to overhead projectors, laptop
computers, and calculators. Newer tools such as smartphones and games (both online and
offline) are beginning to draw serious attention for their learning potential. Educational
technology, sometimes termed EdTech, is the study and ethical practice of facilitating elearning, which is the learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing
appropriate technological processes and resources
Technique refers to a particular method or way of doing something
The word technology which implies systematic treatment (i.e., from Greek technologia:
systematic treatment of an art), technique signifies manners, ways, and capabilities involved in
implementing systematic technical knowledge. Thus in a general sense, technique can be any
manner in which basic physical movements are used, and is sometimes associated with nonscientific activities (e.g., dance technique, flower arranging technique)When people think of
technology, they tend to think of human artifacts such as machines, electronic devices,
scientific hardware, or industrial manufacturing systems. However, a formal definition (College

Dictionary) of technology indicates that it has a more general meaning which includes any
practical application of knowledge or manner of accomplishing a task.

Technology, Technique with Science, And Machines

As noted above, relationships between technique (skillful thought and behavior), science
(systematic knowledge), and machines were studied at least as far back as the classic Greek
philosophies. A diagram showing how these concepts and relationship

TECHNOLOGY IN MODERN CULTURE

Technology can be a great tool for motivating and engaging students. Brain research shows that
if students are engaged, they learn more. If we're able to connect them to real life situations, they're
much more interested...what a powerful motivation technology is and what a broad range of skillsscientific analysis, communication skills, problem-solving- are involved."
Students who use the technology for real communication with a real audience are much more capable
of talking to adults because they are getting used to it...technology facilitates cooperative learning,
encourages new roles for learners and the ability to work independently. There is a difference to my
understanding. A technique is a unique method of doing something i.e. like using a paint brush to apply
stain on furniture. One has to maintain a certain pressure and stroke to make the stain go on evenly so
that the finish will look new. A technique is something mastered and may be personal, such as Bruce
Lee's unique martial art technique. On the other hand, technology is something invented, such as the
smart phone, and the LED lighting.

Change in Student and Teacher Roles:

When students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others,
they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a
teacher, textbook, or broadcast. The student is actively making choices about how to generate,
obtain, manipulate, or display information. Technology use allows many more students to be
actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacherled lessons. Moreover, when technology is used as a tool to support students in performing
authentic tasks, the students are in the position of defining their goals, making design decisions,
and evaluating their progress.
The teacher's role changes as well. The teacher is no longer the center of attention as the
dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing
guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions
and support for student activity. As students work on their technology-supported products, the
teacher rotates through the room, looking over shoulders, asking about the reasons for various
design choices, and suggesting resources that might be used. (See example of teacher as coach.)
Project-based work (such as the City Building Project and the Student-Run Manufacturing
Company) and cooperative learning approaches prompt this change in roles, whether technology
is used or not. However, tool uses of technology are highly compatible with this new teacher role,
since they stimulate so much active mental work on the part of students. Moreover, when the venue
for work is technology, the teacher often finds him or herself joined by many peer coaches-students who are technology savvy and eager to share their knowledge with others.
How Technology Impacts Teachers, Parents and Students
Today, teachers spend a tremendous amount of time inside and outside the classroom
whether grading papers, writing lesson plans, presenting lessons and dealing with discipline. The
last thing teachers need on their plate is trying to contact parents over the phone or taking time
out of their busy schedule to meet with students or their parents. With the aid of technology,
time taken away from doing lessons plans or other activities will decrease. All a teacher has to do
is simply turn on a switch and communicate with students or their parents. There are many
websites that aid teachers in communicating with parents or students. One technique entails
using email. Email makes the job of a teacher much easier because all a teacher has to do is simply
type a message to an individual of their chose. Many times it's hard for teaches to track down
parents to inform them of their child's behavior and or academics. I believe available software
can help keep the line of communication open for all parties involved. Technology can also aid
teachers in coming up with simple lessons plans or activities. It can also helps in communicating
with students and updating parents as to what activities is coming up in their child's school. Not
only does technology impacts teachers, but you as parents also.
Difficulty to Use of Technology in Educational Field
We know that regional efforts make resources available to the widest number and
variety of programs and enable programs to build on each others work rather than
continuously reinvent wheels. Since the K-12 education community has been exploring
effective uses of technology for some time while, adult educators can and do benefit from
opportunities to work with and/or learn from experienced, thoughtful K-12 educators.

However, the adult literacy education learners and settings are different enough from K-12 that
the adult educators find that they also need to take these learnings and resources and then
rethink and repurpose them to create methods and materials that can be effective in their own
instructional settings.
Negative Effect with Technology
Adaptability:
The technological innovation is new in the education industry. Many professionals and educators
in the industry have showed varied levels of hesitancy in adopting the newer technological tools.
Research has shown that quite a large percentage of educators are against the increased use of
technology in favor of the conventional old methods arguing that the diminished level of
interaction between students and teachers is harmful for the overall learning experience.
Lack of interaction between students and teachers:

Technological innovation in the educational world has greatly reduced the level of
interaction between students and teachers. Proponents of conventional education argue that
the personal interaction between students and teachers formed the basis of effective and
useful learning. They also argue that despite the ability to reach millions of students through
the internet, the true purpose and scope of education is nullified by this perceived lack
of communication
Training and Development:
The rate of technological innovation is unprecedented. This creates a challenge for
educators as they have to constantly keep up with all the new changes. Thus regular training is
required which might be a problem for some educators, especially those who are reluctant to use
technology in the rest of the place.
Education lies at a peculiar crossroad in society. On one hand it has the responsibility of
anticipating real-life skills by preparing us for an increasingly complex world but education
methodologies can only be formalized after practices have been denied. This dichotomy is
particularly aggravated when it comes to technology, where fast-paced innovation and perpetual
change is the only constant. Ergo, the innovations in educational technology should be welcomed
and incorporated in a way where the overall learning experience is enhanced for both students and
educators.
CONCLUSION

Technology is ubiquitous and will certainly play a big role in the lives of our students. We need to
remember, though, that technology is only beneficial if it supports sound pedagogy and allows
our students to do things they could not previously do. We all need to remember that it is not,
and never has been, just about the tech. Educators are increasingly using technology in all aspects
of their profession (e.g., creating curricula, classroom instruction, work assignments) This trend
can be enhanced by educating the educator about cultural and cognitive aspects of technology
and technikos, as well as the associated advantages and disadvantages related to educational
and human development goals.

Since the Renaissance, modern everyday attitudes tend to freely accept and use new
technologies. Technology is usually comprehended in terms of hardware and the end experiences
it produces (good or bad) or its material benefits (profitable or unprofitable), rather than
understanding deeper relationships between technology, human nature, and culture. What
produces technologycultural organization, human values, research and development, and so
onis less obvious and less interesting than experiencing its products and benefits.
