THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

THE APPLICATION OF
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO
CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, 28th-30th AUGUST 1995
CONFERENCE THEMES AND
0DJEcTIvEs
Following the success of the first three
conferences in this series held in London,
Gxford and Edinburgh, The Fourth
Intemational Conference on the Application
of Artificial Intelligence to Civil and
StructuralEngineering will be held in
Cambridge from 2&h-30th August 1995.
Papers illustrating the application of artificial
intelligence techniques to all aspects of civil
and structuralengineering will be presented.
The artificial intelligence techniques include:
AI programming languages and systems tools
- object-orientedprogramming -fuzzy logic knowledge eliciatation -knowledge
representation - interfacing techniques pattern recognition - intelligent databases natural language processing machine
learning - reasoning under uncertainty heuristic procedures - distributed
architectures - genetic algorithms - risk
analysis - neural networks - integration of
KBS and Hypertext - case based designreasoning - integrated design - conflict
management
Typical areas of application in civil and
structural engineering include: computer
aided design - structural analysis and design civil engineering management andproject
control - building engineering and design design codes and standards processingintegration with mathematical programming geotechnical engineering: analysis and design
- integrated engineering systems - earthquake

engineering - optimization - diagnosis quality control and assessment - information

systems - environmental engineering - water
engineering - cost estimating - quantity
surveying - monitoring and repair construction planning - data analysis transport and traffic engineering -surveying intelligent computer assisted learning graphics - robotics - smart structures
The conference runs concurrently with the
Sixth International Conference on Civil and
StrncturalEngineering Computing.
Participantsmay attend sessions from either
conference. A selection of papers will be
published after the conference in Computers
and Structures, Computing Systems in
Engineering & StructuralEngineering Review
(publishers: Pergamon Press).
