Preparation for installation

2.1 Usage notes

Similar as the other electronic products, open and close the power supply rapidly and
frequently maybe lead to the semiconductor chip damage. Need to re-open the
PTC04-II, please turn off the power 3 to 5 seconds and then turn on the power switch.
Do not violently collide or drop PTC04-II from the height, such operations may damage
the internal hardware of EPON access device.
Please use the correct external connection port to connect with PTC04-II. Do not insert
the Ethernet cable interface into the monitor port (RJ45 eight-line socket); also do not
insert the monitor port into the Ethernet cable interface (RJ45 eight-line socket); above
operations and other wrong operations may damage components and parts of port
internal.
Warning:
1)

Keep the level direction of power socket to plug power line!

2) When the product was end of life, please do not throw it away, to deal with
according to the relevant state laws and regulations, or to sent it to our company, for
fear to pollute the environment!

2.2 Safety recommendation

2.2.1 Based on the following principles to ensure safety

Keep dustless and clean during the chassis installation and after installation;

Put the cover into a safe place;

Put the tools into the place that not easily be touched down;

Do not wear loose clothing to avoid tripping the chassis, fasten your tie or scarf
and roll up your sleeves;

If that environment maybe damage the eyes, please be sure to wear protective
glasses;

Do not carry out the operations that may cause personal injury or damage to
device.

2.2.2 Safety warning

The security warning message appears in this section refers to: if the operation is
improper, may cause personal injury.

-6-

PTC04-II EPON Access Equipment Hardware Installation Manual

Read the installation guide carefully before operating the system;

Only the qualified personnel can install or replace the EPON access device;

Before operating on chassis or working near the power supply, please unplug
the AC power plug and disconnect the DC connection;

The final configuration of the products must comply with all applicable state laws
and regulations.

2.2.3 Safety principle of hot-line work

When hot-line work, obey the following principles:

Before the operation of electrical device, remove the jewelry (such as: rings,
necklaces, watches, bracelets etc.). If the metal goods contact with "Power" and
"land", it may cause a short circuit to damage components and parts;

Before operating on chassis or working near the power supply, please unplug
the AC power plug and disconnect the DC power supply;

When the device connected to power, do not touch the power, beware of
Electrical shock;

The wrong connection between the device and power outlet may cause
dangerous situation;

Only the training of qualified personnel can operate and maintain the device;

Before the system connect the power, please read the installation guide
carefully.

Warning:
1)

Check the potential danger carefully: the wet floors, ungrounded power
extension cord, worn power cord;

2)

Put the emergency switch in the workplace, in order to quickly cut off the power
when the accident happens;

3)

Before installing/unloading the chassis or working near the power supply, must
disconnect the power switch of EPON access device, and unplug the power
cord;

4)

If there is potential danger, please do not work alone;

5)

Before checking, be sure to disconnect the power supply;

6)

If there is an accident, take the following measures:

A. Turn off the system power supply;
B. Alarm;

C. To determine whether the victims of artificial respiration, then take the

appropriate measures;

-7-

PTC04-II EPON Access Equipment Hardware Installation Manual

D. If possible, send someone to seek medical help; otherwise, to estimate the

injury and for help.

2.2.4 Precautions of ESD damage

Electro-static discharge (ESD)may damage the devices and circuits, if not handle
properly, will result in EPON access device complete or intermittent failure.
Move or place device in accordance with the measure of precaution electro-static
discharge (ESD), to ensure that the chassis connected to the ground. One of measure
is to wear anti-static wrist strap, keep wrist strap well contact with the skin, and
efficiently use the anti-static wrist strap. If you do not have wrist strap, you can use a
clamp of metal cable clamped the metal part of unpainted chassis, then discharge
electro-static into the ground through the metal cable. In the case without these tools
you can make yourself well contact with the ground, and then touch the metal parts of
the unpainted chassis, the electro-static were discharged into the ground through your
body.

2.3 Environment requirement

This section discusses the environment requirement of safe installation and usage, to
ensure the place is ready before installation.

2.3.1Environment
PTC04-II can be installed in desktop or rack. Chassis placement, rack layout and room
layout are very important for normal system operation. Equipment too close, bad
ventilation and difficult to access control panel, will cause maintenance problems or
system failure and broken.
When planning place layout and equipment placement, we should remember to
discuss preventive measure "prevention of workplace configuration." If the device is
often crashed or error, these preventive information can help you isolate the
breakdown to prevent recurrence of the problems.

2.3.2Precautions of configure workplace

Ensure that the workplace ventilation, Electrical device has a good heat
dissipation; If do not have enough air circulation, it can not provide a good
cooling environment for the device;

In accordance with procedures of ESD protection to avoid damage the device.

ESD can cause immediate or intermittent failure of the system;

The placement of the chassis is best to let the cold air often blow chassis.
Ensure that the seal of chassis is closed, the open chassis will destroy the air
circulation within the chassis, which will interrupt the air flow or divert the flow of
cold air that has cooled the internal heat components.

-8-

PTC04-II EPON Access Equipment Hardware Installation Manual

2.3.3Rack configuration

Each device on the rack will be hot work, so the closed rack must have vents
and cooling fans, and device can not put too dense to ensure good ventilation;

Install the chassis on an open rack, attention that the framework of rack does not
block the ventilation hole of EPON access device chassis. Therefore, after
installing the chassis, please check the location of the chassis carefully to
prevent above happening;

Make sure that you have already provided effective ventilation for the equipment
at the bottom of rack;

Clapboard can help separate the exhaust and intake air, while helping the cold
air flow in the box, the best position of clapboard depends on the airflow pattern
within the rack. This position can be measured by the different way.

2.3.4Power supply
Check the power supply to ensure power system is grounded well; the input power of
PTC04-II is stable and reliable, if necessary it can install the voltage to regulate the
device. Protection measures of building short-circuit should ensure that there is a 240V,
10A fuse or circuit breaker in the phase line.
Warning:
If the power supply system is not grounded well, or the input power jitter is too large,
also is over-pulse, will lead to increase the BER of communications equipment, and
even hardware damage!

2.4Installation tools and devices

The tools and devices required by installation of PTC04-II do not include in the
standard configuration of PTC04-II. Therefore, the subscribers need provide by
themself. The tools and devices are as following:

Chapter 5 Hardware Failure Analysis

5.1Failure isolation
The key to resolve system failure is separating the failure from the system. Compare
the system to check what should do and whats the system doing. During the process,
consider the following sub-system:

Power supplypower supply;

Port, cable and connectionports on front panel of PTC04-II and cables

connected with the ports.

5.1.1Power supply check

Check environment condition, dont over heat. Check whether the intake and
vent are clean. Review Average Environment Requirement. PTC04-II working
temperature requires -40 to 85.

If PTC04-II can not start and indicator dimmed, please check the power supply.

5.1.2Port, cable and connection failure

For separation, check the following item:

If PTC04-II port could not LINK, check whether cable connection is correct and
peer connection is normal;

If Console port does not work when system start, please confirm Console port is
9600 baud rate, 8 data bit, no parity check bits, 1 stop bit, no fluid control.
