Read the passage below and underline difficult words.

The Artist’s Electronic Studio

Michelangelo expressed his greatest art on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Picasso, Monet and countless other artists poured out their creativity on canvas.
Joni Carter expresses her creativity through the multimedia art she creates in her
studio overlooking Sunset Boulevard and the Pacific Oceans in Los Angeles.

Carter is a sports artist who has made sports art videos for the Indianapolis 500,
the Super bowl, the winter and the Summer Olympic Games, and many of
sporting’s other important event. She is as intent on catching athletes intensity
and emotion as she is on capturing their grace and speed.

How does she work? Carter attends sporting events to see and feel the action
live. She also interviews athletes, taking photographs in the process. With that
information in hand, she draft out an idea of hat feeling she wishes to express.
Carter sits down in her studio, “an electronic canvas” at her fingertips. Using a
video graphic board, she electronically paints a series of pictures, stroke by
stroke and edits them to tell a story. Next she scores the audio components –
adding music and other sound to give the images more life and underscore their
powerful messages. She reviews her painting to look for errors or unfinished
strokes. Often, Carter asks her friends’ opinions regarding her painting. The
result is a dynamic, vividly coloured, moving rendering of an important sports
event.

To Joni Carter, the skillfull use of information technology is not a substitute for
artistics creativity. Rather she feels IT expands her creativity. “This technology
expands the horizon”, as she puts it.
