BSNL CERTIFIED OPTICAL FIBER COMMUNICATION ENGINEER
OVERVIEW
Fiber optic telecommunication technology has revolutionized the communication
links with the unlimited provision of Bandwidth. The telecom sector now, is
witnessing huge demand for the trained and qualified engineers specialized in fiber
optic communications.
To fill up this growing demand for qualified professionals in optical communication,
BSNL, the pioneer telecommunication provider in India, is launching a certification
program in Optical FiberCables and Systems.
The course provides hands on training in design, optimization, setting up and
maintenance of fiber optic networks. It describes in great detail fiber optic
cables, connectorization, splicing, passive devices and systems. It examines the
system engineering built into fiber optic receivers, transmitters, test equipments
and troubleshooting. It also incorporates many of the current industry standards
pertaining to optical fiber communication.

Through this uniquely designed industry oriented academic initiative, the trainee
shall

gain a deeper understanding of fiber optic communication technology


be able to design, implement and maintain a fiber optic communication
network
be recognized as a fiber optic communication technology specialist

TRAINING METHOD
The training programme is supported with Audio-Video aided classroom lectures
and lab sessions. The instructor will lead you to focus on the key knowledge and
skills to understand the optical fiber technology in an overall perspective.
Discussions and hands on practice sessions in high tech optical fiber systems
laboratories will build the confidence of the participants to apply the learned
knowledge and techniques in the actual industry environment. In addition to this,
the trainees are also exposed to the implementation aspects of fiber networks
deployed by BSNL in Kerala.
WHO CAN APPLY
1. Candidates who have passed Graduation in engineering in the disciplines of
ECE/EEE/EIE/CSE/IT or M.Sc (Physics/Electronics/Photonics/Computer Science) or
MCA or Equivalent.
2. Candidates awaiting the results of their final examinations are also eligible to
apply.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
1. The candidates while undergoing this course should appear for examinations /
assessment tests conducted during the course to secure the certification from BSNL
RTTC.
2. The candidates will be awarded the following grades based on their
performance in the examinations /assessments conducted by BSNL RTTC

Grade A+
90% & above marks
b.
Grade A
80% - 90%
c.
Grade B+
70% - 80%
d.
Grade B
60% - 70%
e.
Grade C
50% - 60%
f.
Failed
Below 50%
CERTIFICATE
BSNL will award certificates to trainees on successful completion of the course.
PLACEMENT
No placement or Placement assistance will be provided by BSNL.

THE INSTITUTE
BSNL - Regional Telecom Training Centre, Thiruvananthapuram is one of the
premier training institutes of BSNL. It imparts training in modern
Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology and Management to BSNL
executives. This ISO 9001:2008 certified centre of excellence is equipped with
state-of-the-art telecom technology laboratories, which include mobile
communication systems of GSM 3G & CDMA, switching systems of OCB-Alcatel
France & CDOT make, transmission systems in digital microwave, fiber optics, SDH,
STM rings and data communication systems with Internet nodes, Wi-Fi equipments,
IP MPLS VPN and Cisco routers. The faculty members are well-qualified technocrats
and experienced professionals from among various telecom sectors. The 30 acres
of lush green campus houses Library, Hostels and Recreational amenities.
HOSTEL FACILITY
Separate Hostel facility available for Ladies and Gents if required. A boarding
charge of Rs. 130 and lodging charge of Rs. 80 per day per student will be
collected for availing hostel facility. Library and recreational amenities are
also available in the campus.
TRAINING CENTRE LOCATION
The 30 acres of lush green campus, which is bestowed with the environment for
learning and living is situated at Kaimanam (NH 47) just 4kms away from
Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station / KSRTC Central Bus station.
