Description of functioning
How does a grease separator system work?

In general terms, a grease separator system works on the basis of the
gravity principle, i.e. grease, being lighter than water, floats on the
surface of the water and forms a layer, which can then be disposed of
separately.
With the PRAKTIKA grease separator system (see photo), kitchen wastewater is
first fed into an intake filter, which separates solids from the water directly. The
solids are retained by sieves from where they are then automatically conveyed
to a 60-litre collector by a worm extruder. Wastewater, still containing greases,
flows on to the grease separator where grease and wastewater are then
separated automatically by a process based on the gravity principle.
Through this innovative process, waste materials destined for disposal (i.e. oils,
greases and solilds in the collectors) are removed from wastewater directly,
thereby reducing the volume of disposed matter to about 10 % as compared
to conventional grease separator systems. There is no need to dispose of all of
the grease separator contents.
In addition, separated waste materials can be subsequently recycled by
utilizing them in energy production.
If the operation has a wet waste disposal system, the PRAKTIKA Plus grease
separator system can be connected directly to it. This saves the operator the
effort of having to exchange collector containers.
Greases and oils are lighter than water and thus form a layer on the surface. In
order to ensure that grease continues to flow until disposal, the compartment
where grease accumulates is thermally insulated, while an additional heating
unit under the layer of grease ensures that the grease remains fluid. Separated
oil and grease can in this way be drained into a 60-litre collecting container
by way of a drain spout, fully automatically and with no additional energy
required. The PRAKTIKA Plus grease separator system is fully automatic and
includes program control, allowing even automatic alternating feed to additional collectors. After separation and removal of greases and solids, the purified
wastewater is pumped out through an immersed fitting and drained directly
to the public sewage system. A lifting unit is required in situations where the
drain fitting is below the backflow level.

PRAKTIKA is an economical and ecological grease separator system
offering convincing arguments when compared with conventional grease
separator system:
Economical advantages, such as great savings on operating costs, including
disposal costs and the cost of fresh water
Only slightly higher investment costs compared with conventional grease
separator systems, such as PREMIUM or PREMIUM Plus, in which contents
are emptied completely
Very easy to operate and saves time during disposal
Ecological advantages as a result of a strong reduction in disposal volumes

(e.g. for nominal size 20: instead of 120 m3 of wastewater a year, as with
conventional, complete disposal, only about 1 m3 of solids and about 3 m3

Equipped with:
Intake filter, container lid with gasket and quick-action locks (sealed waterand odour tight) and safety limit switch (additional safety device) so that leftover foods in kitchen wastewater are retained by sieves. Solids are discharged
by means of a worm extruder to a 60-litre transparent plastic collector that is

LUGAN
Area of use
The use of a flotation system such as LUGAN ensures that that these levels
permanently remain within the low limits. In addition, by combining the methods
of chemical precipitation / flocculation and flotation, levels of BOD, COD and
suspended solids can at the same time be proportionally reduced while limiting
pH values to the permissible range of 6.5 to 9.5. LUGAN flotation systems
have been especially developed for treatment of wastewater containing greases,
such as is discharged by commercial kitchens, cafeterias, the food industry etc.
Especially for industrial plants and in regions where wastewater limits of less
than 100 mg/l are prescribed for saponifiable oils and greases as well as for
lipophilic substances, additional water treatment, for instance through a flotation system, is required downstream from the grease separator, since conventional grease separators are unable to achieve these limits. Emulsified
greases and oils present in wastewater usually pass unhindered through grease separators that function based on the gravity principle only.

Description of how it works

The LUGAN flotation system is a standardized compact plant that functions based on a combination of
the processes of chemical precipitation / flocculation and flotation. The pre-purified wastewater, i.e. free
for the most part of sediments and floating matter, that is discharged from the grease separator system
is pumped from a buffer basin to the water intake of the flotation system by a feed pump connected to
the plants central control cabinet. Subsequently, flocculation agents (iron and aluminium salts), neutralizing agents (acids and alkali) and further flocculation agents (polymers) are added as required by means
of dosing pumps. The resulting flocs bind very strongly with the micro air bubbles generated previously.
This results in turn in flotate, a mixture of solids, air and flocs that is able to float. The floatable particles
are subsequently separated in a flotation tank, and the flotate sludge is dewatered in a thin sludge tank
and finally disposed of. Filtrate is fed back into the grease separator. The purified wastewater is drained
from the flotation tank into an adjacent clarified water tank, allowing regulation of the water level and thus
of the flotate layer thickness in the flotation tank. The clarified water tank consists of two chambers. A
drain in the tank allows purified wastewater to be fed into the public sewage system.

Area of use
Especially for industrial plants and in regions where wastewater limits of less
than 100 mg/l are prescribed for saponifiable oils and greases as well as for
lipophilic substances, additional water treatment, for instance through a biological wastewater system, is required, since conventional grease separators are
unable to achieve these limits. Emulsified greases and oils present in wastewater usually pass unhindered through grease separators that function based
on the gravity principle only. In order to limit the large amount of space
required by biological wastewater treatment systems, a grease separator,
requiring monthly emptying, may be optionally connected upstream.
The use of a biological wastewater system such as SPLIT-O-MAT-FAT ensures

that that these levels permanently remain within the low limits. In addition, this
biological process proportionally reduces levels of BOD, COD and suspended
solids. SPLIT-O-MAT-FAT biological wastewater treatment systems have been
especially developed for treatment of wastewater containing greases, such as
is discharged by commercial kitchens, cafeterias, the food industry etc.

Description of how it works

Wastewater containing greases is first collected by way of floor drains and wastewater ducts and fed
through a drain pipe into an intake filter, which separates solids from the water directly. Larger particles
are retained by sieves from where they are then automatically conveyed to a 60-litre collector by a
worm extruder and may be disposed of normally together with household waste. The wastewater, now
virtually solids-free, is fed into the integrator. Wastewater is buffered here before it is fed through the
various process steps, taking place in the fermenter (bioreactor), that biodegrade substances. Pressurized air is introduced to the system, supplying it with oxygen and transporting the material through the
fermenter. This process combines aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation of toxic materials in wastewater. Once purified in this manner, wastewater is drained into the public sewage system by way of the
control shaft.
