Giving Update
The ministry of SHC is funded entirely by the
generous giving of Gods people. You will
notice that we do not pass the offering plate;
however, there are offering boxes in the back
of the auditorium. We believe from the Word
of God that the Spirit of God will lead people
towards giving back to God of their first fruits.
...God loves a cheerful giver, (2 Cor. 9:7).

Please prayerfully consider what the Lord

would have you do.

CLARIFYING THE TARGET

Deuteronomy 6:1-15
Pete Potloff
As within every area of creation, the fingerprints of a
mighty God can be seen all over the family. Man didn't
create family, God did. And as Creator He assigned
parents the vital role of training up their children in the
way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). But if we are not
careful, we may unintentionally launch our children
towards the wrong target altogether. So what is the target
of family discipleship, and how can the church help
families zero in on the bullseye? Thankfully the Word can
sharpen our focus and get us pointed in the right
direction.
Context:
Moses gathers the Israelites to give them one final
history lesson.
These events were not insignificant moments in the
past. They were clear evidences of Gods
sovereignty, provision and protection.
It is in this passage that we see the original call to
family discipleship, the first small group!

The Target of Family Discipleship

that you do not forget the Lord (v.12)

Remember
protection.

His

sovereignty,

provision

and

fear only the Lord (v.13)

Fear = Honor, respect, awe

worship/serve Him (v.13)

Live for Him
The DANGER of Forgetting
We become self-reliant and self-centered
We become ungrateful
We fail to see our need for Him
The target of family discipleship is not merely well
behaved kids, but to see our children grow in their
knowledge of who God is and joyfully choose to elevate
His opinion and do His will because they love Him.

A Framework for Intentional Family Discipleship

Time - An intentional time set aside to teach your
children about God that is unique to the rhythm of
your family.
Moments - As life happens you connect the dots
between life and Gods Word for your child.
Milestones - You identify and celebrate significant
spiritual events, reinforcing Gods sovereignty,
provision and protection
Application
Are you being equipped?
Are you taking time to connect the dots?
Are you depending on the Spirit?
