T he quest for truth has sometimes been called an endless quest. For hundreds of years, philosophers
have been seeking for the truth, and made many impressive observations, but have not found it.
Someone has said, “The truth is really an ambition which is beyond us.” Some would even doubt that
the truth exists at all, and would say, as Pontius Pilate said with indifference, “What is truth?” (John 18:38).
Thankfully, the truth we need has been revealed to us by God. God wants you to know the truth, because it is
vital both for the present life as well as the next. This is the truth that you need, in order to make sense of
your existence here, and to make good use of your life.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew
7:7, the Bible)
Study No. 1 - Where Is The Truth Found?
“Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?”
(Job 11:7, the Bible)
T
he truth you need cannot be found in philosophy, natural science or by transcendental meditation.
These things may contain some facets of the truth, but they are insufficient to show you truths about
God and His purpose for your life. God has revealed these things by writing them in a book called the
Bible.
I. What Is The Bible?
1. It consists of sixty-six books written over a time span of 1,600 years (1500 B.C. - A.D. 100) by about
forty writers who were inspired by God, its real Author.
2. It is divided into two parts:
a. The Old Testament: These are the first 39 books of the Bible which describe the origin of man, his
need for a Saviour, and prophecies about His first coming. Most of the Old Testament was originally
written in Hebrew and some small portions were written in Aramaic.
b. The New Testament: These are the 27 books written about 400 years after the Old Testament was
completed. They describe the life, teaching and purpose of the Saviour, Jesus Christ at His first
coming, His relevance to life, and prophecies about His second coming. The New Testament was
written entirely in Greek.
II. How Was The Bible Written?
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good
works.” (2 Timothy 3:16,17, the Bible)
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved
by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21, the Bible)
1. The Bible was written through a very unique process: The Spirit of God (known also as “the Holy
Ghost”) came upon a human writer and moved him so that every word he wrote was from God. The
Bible therefore does not consist of the ideas, opinions, beliefs and thoughts of mere men.
2. Every part of the Bible was written by God through this same unique process working in 40 different
writers from different backgrounds. The result was that every part of it is in full agreement with the other
parts. The message of the Bible is consistent from beginning to end.

3. Since every word was from God, there are no mistakes or errors at all in the Bible, since God never
makes a mistake! Neither would God allow any misleading or false information such as myths and
legends in His book. This means that it is fully reliable and dependable. You can trust completely in
every word of the Bible.
4. Consider some other evidences of God’s authorship of the Bible:
a. The Old Testament refers to itself as “the Word of God” 3,808 times and the New Testament, 525
times.
b. There are about 187 prophecies in the Bible that have already been fulfilled. Some prophecies even
predicted what name an individual would be given, hundreds of years before his birth.
c. There are 180 recorded miracles in the Bible, including six instances when the dead were brought
back to life!
d. In the Old Testament alone there are at least 80 historical events that have been corroborated by
recently-discovered archaeological evidence. The Bible has been shown to be fully accurate in its
recording of historical events – with no embellishments nor exaggerated figures.
e. The Bible has more ancient manuscript evidence than any ten pieces of classical literature combined
– over 24,000 for the New Testament alone. Studies of manuscripts that are more than 2000 years old
have shown that the Bible has remained virtually unchanged since it was first written, until the
present time!
f. Despite many campaigns since ancient times to destroy every copy of the Bible or to distort its
message, it has survived, remained intact, and continues to be the most widely distributed and
translated book in the world today. It has been translated into over 2,000 languages and has left an
indelible influence on many civilisations and nations.
5. These are the amazing things that we would expect from a book that is written entirely by God.
Conclusion:
• The Bible is worthy to be read, studied and believed as the truth from God Himself.
• The Bible is all that you need in order to know all that God wants you to know.
• The Bible should be the most important book to you. It gives you all the answers you need to life’s
questions.
Assignment:
1. Complete the attached answer sheet and submit it in order to receive: Study No. 2 -“Knowing God”
2. Obtain a Bible for all future studies in this course. There are a number of different English versions of
the Bible available. You should get the King James Version (also known as the Authorised Version).
3. Familiarise yourself with the Bible. Flip through its pages and take a glance at the text. You will notice
that each book is divided into chapters and each chapter is in turn divided into verses. Hence, the first
verse of the Bible is Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1. This is abbreviated in references to: Genesis 1:1. The
next verse after this would be Genesis 1:2.

T here is no knowledge that is greater than knowing God. Every man, woman and child has a basic need
to know God personally, and God has made this possible by revealing Himself to us through the
Bible. Those who sincerely seek to know God by reading the Bible will find Him. However, God is so
great and infinite that He cannot be fully known in this present life. From the moment we begin to know God
we have only started on a never-ending but ever-growing knowledge of God for eternity.
This increasing knowledge of God brings us into fellowship with Him. The knowledge of God in the heart
gives rise to love for Him and obedience to Him. This is the purpose that God intended for us when He
created us:
“And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.”
(John 17:3)
“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man
glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in
this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the LORD which exercise
lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith
the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23,24)

J esus Christ was born of a virgin in Bethlehem. His birth was honoured by shepherds, angels and wise
men, but soon after this, His mother and foster father removed Him to Egypt to escape the wicked
attempt by the king of Israel to have him killed. When this king died, He was brought to the town of
Nazareth, where he grew up to adulthood.
He probably lived as a carpenter till the age of thirty, when He was
inaugurated as the long-expected Messiah. He then journeyed through
Israel, confirming His identity by His miracles and teachings. At the
same time, He prepared a group of twelve men to continue His work
after He left this world.
He submitted Himself to become the victim of a cruel plot in which
He was arrested, falsely charged, unjustly sentenced and then
executed by being nailed to a wooden cross, suffering a most
excruciating death. Although he was securely buried, He emerged
alive and well after three days, just as He had predicted. He then went back to heaven, promising to return to
this world one day.
The life of Christ can be studied from several aspects:
I. Prophecies About His Life

II. The Events In His Death (Matthew 26:36-27:54; Mark 14:26-15:39; Luke 22:39-23:47; John 18:1-19:37)
1. Just after having His last supper with his disciples, Jesus went to a garden to pray. There he was arrested,
having been betrayed by one of his disciples. Through the rest of the night, He was mocked, blindfolded,
beaten and treated with contempt. He was also put on trial and falsely accused of blasphemy.
2. The next morning the Jews brought Him to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, demanding his
execution on the false charge of opposing the authority of the Roman empire. Pilate sent Him to king
Herod, who mocked Him with sarcastic contempt before sending Him back to Pilate. Pilate tried in vain
to release Jesus because he could not justify executing Him, but in the end he gave in to the Jews’
demands. He had Him scourged with whips, and ordered His crucifixion.
3. The Roman soldiers took charge of Jesus, stripped Him and mocked Him as ‘king’ by placing a ‘crown’
woven from thorns on his head. They spat on Him and beat Him on the head, then forced Him to carry a
large wooden cross to Golgotha. Along the way he collapsed under the weight of the cross and someone
was forced to help him carry it.
4. Jesus was nailed to the cross at His wrists and feet, and raised up, so that his whole body was suspended
by the nails for about six hours. Despite that He prayed, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what
they do.” (Luke 23:34). After He died a soldier thrust a spear into His side.
3. 1 John 4:10 - “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and ______ ____ _______
to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Assignment:
1. If you have filled in the blanks on this sheet, submit it so that you will receive Study No.6 - “The
Resurrection of Jesus Christ”

a. John 20:14-18...........................................................................
b. Luke 24:13-33 ..........................................................................
c. John 20:26-31...........................................................................
d. Luke 24:34................................................................................
e. John 20:19-20...........................................................................
f. 1 Corinthians 15:6 ....................................................................
Could all of them have been seeing a ghost? Why or why not?.....
........................................................................................................
........................................................................................................
........................................................................................................
3. Not surprisingly, the enemies of Jesus were silent and could not refute the fact that Jesus had risen from
the dead, because of:
a. The evidence of His empty tomb and grave clothes.
b. Their inability to produce the dead body of Jesus to prove that He was still dead.
c. The increasing number of eyewitnesses of the resurrected Jesus.
d. The new power and boldness seen in the formerly despondent disciples of Jesus.
4. Forty-eight days after He was resurrected, Jesus returned to His place of glory which He had in heaven
from eternity. God’s love was shown in the death of Jesus, God’s power was shown in the resurrection
of Jesus, and God’s glory was shown in the ascension of Jesus.
“And now, O Father, glorify thou Me with Thine own self with the glory which I had with Thee before
the world was.” (John 17:5)
“And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him
out of their sight.” (Acts 1:9)
Assignment:
1. If you have filled in the blanks on this sheet, submit it so that you will receive Study No.7 - “The
Necessity of Salvation”
2. Memorise this verse: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ

day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4)
Inquirers’ Bible Course, Study No. 5 18
W e need salvation because we are sinners. We are destined to suffer the punishment for all our sins
in hell – a place of great eternal torment. We also need salvation from the present state of misery
that sin has caused in our lives and in the world. But most of all we need salvation from our state
of separation from God, who is our creator and sustainer. To understand all this, we need to go back and see
what happened at the very beginning . . .

Matthew 5:28..................................................................................
Matthew 6:5....................................................................................
5. Man sins abundantly against God in his thoughts, words and deeds. Instead of doing what pleases God,
he does what pleases himself. This sinful nature of man is evident in every man, woman, boy and girl
even from the time of birth:
a. Psalm 51:5 - “Behold, I was shapen in ___________; and in ______ did my mother conceive me.”
b. Ecclesiastes 7:20 - “For there is not a just man upon earth, that _______ ______, and _________
______.
c. Romans 3:10-12 - “There is ______ righteous, no, _____ _____: There is ______ that
understandeth, there is ______ that seeketh after God. They are ______ gone out of the way, they are
together become unprofitable; there is ______ that doeth good, no, ______ ______.
..................................................................................................
g. Numbers 21:5,6 ........................................................................
..................................................................................................
5. God has all this time endured the sins of the world, but a time is coming soon when He will destroy all
sin, saving only those whose sins have been forgiven through Jesus Christ.
Conclusion:
Man is in desperate need of salvation from the judgment that God must bring upon him for his sins. The only
way that you can be saved is by turning to Jesus Christ. He is God’s only provision for you to be saved from
your sins.
