Course Description:
The Ernestina Bracero Perez fifth grade English course aims to capture students interest in
grammar usage, techniques and mechanics as well as the enjoinment and understanding of
literature. The integration of the course skills will help develop his/her capacities to interact
effectively in a verbal and non-verbal environment.
Justification
The oral and written communication is a fundamental and a compelling tool to develop a
skilled student for the future. He or she will use these tools to help enable the ability in
applying language skills in an integrated form, to solve problems in sense of personal
fulfillment and capable of working to change society in a responsible way. Student will
gain the capacity of being critical thinkers respecting other peoples opinions and beliefs.
Objectives
Student will be able to use and understand grammar usage and its mechanics to interpret
literary elements while acquiring the necessary vocabulary and skills to master listening
and oral communication.
Learn to use and understand new words by using the dictionary
Communicate effectively in small informal group activities
Enhance his/her oral communication by doing oral presentations about a
specific theme intergrading media and technology
Answer questions in complete thought
Communicate personal opinions of a topic or theme
Identify, classify and spell plural forms of nouns
Name, identify, and classify pronouns and its antecedents in a sentence
Identify, locate, select, classify and use verbs in their tense
Identify and use prepositions, and prepositional phrases
Identify adjectives
Identify and use conjunctions
Locate adverbs
Identify and use interjections
Recognize complete and simple subject and predicates
Distinguish difference between a sentence and sentence fragment
Write effective sentences
Take dictations of words
Distinguish, compare and contrast characters and characters traits
Describe the setting in a story
Recognize main ideas
Mention details
Predict outcome
Recall sequence of events
Distinguish between fact or opinion

Criteria of Evaluation
In order to better understand and help my student in their strengths and weakness, I will use
different methods of evaluation. Even though there are 15 grades already set, there are
going to be approximately 5 other grades that I will use to help them according to their
progress.
