ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY
Electrical resistivity values are not included in either the RCC-MR or the ASME
codes.
The original data for 316L(N) in the previous version of the ITER MPH were
proposed based on data from Ref. 1 for AISI 316.
More data were collected from other publications, Ref. 2 and 3 for 316 and 316L
steels. The deviation from average is typically +/- 6% due to the variation in chemical
composition inside of material specification and uncertainties in method of testing.
Only 2 data sets are exist for 316L(N) steel:
- S. Fabritsiev, Ref. 4, measured electrical resistivity at ambient temperature
and the value was slightly lower that average for 316 type steel;
- K. Mergia, Ref, 5, reported data for 316L(N) electron beam welded joint,
which actually were values for base metal.
Both references reported that electrical resistivity of steel 316L(N) is slightly lower
than average of values of 316L(N) steel.
European standard EN 10088-1:2005 recommends the value of 74 Ohm*cm for
electrical resistivity at 20C for steel type 316L (X2CrNiMo17-12-2 1.4404)
The summary of available data is presented in Table 1 and they are plotted in Figure
1.
