The large turnout just for the

first day of practice rounds at the
2015 PGA Championship at
Whistling Straits was a confirmation of what is being billed as the
highest-grossing PGA Championship in the events 97-year history (based on general ticketing
and corporate sales). By August 9,
the PGA of America and Kohler
Co. announced a sell-out of daily
grounds tickets for Saturday and
Sunday Championship round play.
Attendance for the seven-day
event was expected to top 200,000.
The excitement weve seen for
this Championship has been remarkable at every level, said
Jason Mengel, Director of the
2015 PGA Championship. From

the state of Wisconsin and regionally throughout the Midwest, to nationally across the U.S. and
globally around the world.
The 2015 PGA Championship is
expected to have a $100 million
economic impact on the region
(based on statistics from other host
sites in the recent past). Locally
and regionally, 1,100 full-time and
part-time jobs were created because of the event.
According to GOLF 20/20, the
state of Wisconsin and the upper
Midwest has the highest percentage of golfers in the United States.
In Wisconsin, golf generates an annual economic impact of $2.4 billion, creating 38,000 golf-related
jobs. In 2014, Golf Digest ranked

America and Kohler Co. joined
Wisconsin state officials and community leaders at a Government
Relations Breakfast on August 11
at Whistling Straits to discuss the
significant and lasting contribution
golf and the 2015 PGA Championship have made in Wisconsin.
As part of its community outreach, the 2015 PGA Championship has donated nearly 1,000
tickets, additional merchandise,
VIP Championship experiences,
and autographed memorabilia to
the local community.
Additionally, PGA REACH
the PGA of Americas charitable
foundation is working to leave a
positive and lasting impact in Wisconsin. Earlier this summer, the
2015 National Car Rental PGA
REACH Charity Pro-Am held at
Whistling Straits raised more than
$125,000, with all proceeds benefitting four Southeast Wisconsin
organizations Bookworm Gardens, PGA HOPE (Helping Our
Patriots Everywhere) with the Wisconsin PGA Foundation, the Caddie and Leadership Academy, golf
programs in Sheboygan County
Schools, and PGA Junior League
Golf.
Whether its boosting local
economies, supporting tourism or
just enjoying the natural treasures
Wisconsin has to offer the game
of golf has a rich history here in

our state, said Sen. Tammy Baldwin. I am particularly proud of the

fact that the PGA Championship is
especially welcoming to our military veterans and families.
At Bookworm Gardens in Sheboygan, funds from the PGA ProAm will be used to create an
animal gateway section, scheduled to open this month. Bookworm Gardens melds nature with
childrens literature and features
two acres of garden space artfully
designed to mimic and complement childrens literature.
On August 12, the PGA of
America Spouses and PGA TOUR
Wives Association joined forces
for the third consecutive year to
leave a lasting legacy in the PGA
Championship host community,
lending their time at Bookworm
Gardens to promote youth literacy
and education.
The great state of Wisconsin is
excited to host the PGA Championship, one of the most exciting
and fan-friendly majors, said Sen.
Ron Johnson. This event is a boon
for Wisconsins economy, jobs,

Fondest memories growing up in
Kohler: Too many fondest memories to count. Wonderful to grow
up in a huge playground. Closeness of friends, accessibility to
everything. Kohler Pool, The
Bowl, walking to and from school,
Sports Core, Youth Center, the
Trestle, kick the can, SGLO. When
I look at my group of friends from
Kohler, I always say that if we met
today, we would probably NEVER
be friends. The thing with a small
class, small town is that friend resources are limited, so you work
with what you have...and these
people become like family to you.
Different, but sharing so much in
common. The close knit community is really something magical.
Summers spent at the Kohler Pool,
as a youth and then working....the
pool will always be my number
one. Running around town with no
plans or agenda, making our own
fun. Friends, friends, friends.
Many details that I cannot share!

the friends and activities and
sports, and music classes. How
fortunate we were to have programs that everyone could participate in. All of these things built
skills like team work, confidence,
and accountability. Things that I
really treasure having learned. My
education doesnt seem as significant, but certainly I came out prepared enough to succeed when I
chose to. Interestingly, Home Economics and Family Living classes
probably had the greatest impact
on my career. I can vividly remember the cooking classes and competitions. I remember making
manicotti in seventh grade and I
went home and made that meal for
my family. We decorated fancy
cakes, planned menus and shopped
for items. Today I manage chefs
and menus and events, and magnificent estates. I work in situations with kids and families and
high profile guests...and really, it
all started with that manicotti
dish.....or was it the bran muffins?
I also have found myself in a jam
more than once where I was thankful I could whip up an impromptu
cake at work and decorate it like a
pro.

topic, person, or event; create a
thesis, and defend it by creating a
project. The five categories in
which they can create their project
is a performance, an exhibit, a
documentary, a website, or writing
a paper. NHD is an empowering

program which allows students to

really delve into their passions and
interests in history.
Kohler Middle School earned
three spots in the National Competition which was held in Maryland/Washington D.C. from June
14-18 this summer.

for a great cause at Bookworm Gardens
Charitable groups come together to garden, as the 2015 PGA Championship
makes a positive impact in the local Wisconsin community
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (Aug. 12,
2015) - In celebration of the 2015
PGA Championship, the PGA of
America Spouses and PGA TOUR
Wives Association joined forces
today with PGA REACH and the
Kohler Co. at Bookworm Gardens
a local garden space that promotes youth literacy and learning
to garden for a great cause.
Bookworm Gardens is divided
into six areas called Gateways
that are organized by theme. During the event, Nina Kohler, wife of
David Kohler, General Chair of
the 2015 PGA Championship and
Kohler Co. President & CEO, led
the participating organizations in
building a garden space that tells
the story of Connor the Caddie,
a new, limited-edition children's
book written by local author Ulrich Koberstein and illustrated by
his wife, Christina Koberstein. The
childrens book is available at
Bookworm Gardens, The Emporium at The American Club and
Wisconsin Trader at the Shops at
Woodlake Kohler.
The participating organizations
were guided by Jennifer Sprague
of the PGA of America Spouses
and Kate Rose of the PGA TOUR
Wives Association. This is the
third year these groups have lent
their time to positively impact a
PGA Championship host site. In
2013, the organizations constructed a Habitat for Humanity
home for a deserving family in
Rochester, N.Y. Last year, the
wives partnered with Blessings in
a Backpack to plant gardens that
would be utilized in the program,
feeding underserved schoolchild-

PGA of America, during the 2015
National Car Rental PGA REACH
Charity Pro-Am, which was held
in June at Whistling Straits, aided

structured to mimic the 18 holes
found on a golf course and is full
of colorful artwork depicting Connor's adventures. In addition, a

replica Whistling Straits Clubhouse was constructed to complement the garden.

Our intention was to commemorate the positive impact the PGA
Championship has brought to our
community, to honor the artistry of
my father-in-law, Herb Kohler and
his dear friend Pete Dye, and to
create a wonderful learning space
for the children and families of
Sheboygan County, said Nina
Kohler. It has been an honor and
a pleasure to work with the talented and passionate people involved with this project, from the
designers and craftsmen to the
PGA TOUR Wives, the PGA of
America Spouses and PGA
REACH. Our hope is that this

space will serve in bringing joy to

those who visit it and introduce
children of all ages to the wonderful game of golf.

Dr., Kohler) on Sunday, September
20 at 2:00 p.m. Hearkening back to
the original use of the Waelderhaus
as the home of the Kohler
Womens Clubs Distinguished
Guest Series, Kohler Foundation is
planning an entertaining presentation by architectural historian Jim
Draeger. Draeger co-authored the
book Bottoms Up: A Toast to Wisconsins Historic Bars and Breweries, and will give a lecture
entitled Ill Drink to That: Toasting Wisconsins Historic Taverns.

Robert C. Harder (1920 - 2015)

Robert C. Harder, 94,
of Kohler peacefully
passed away on Saturday morning, August 8,
2015 at Pine Haven
Residential
Home
where he had resided
for the past six years.
Robert was born on
October 7, 1920 in Sheboygan, the son of the
late Christian and Catherine
(Scherer) Harder. He graduated
from Sheboygan Central High
School in 1939 and the University
of Wisconsin- Madison in 1950.
Robert served in the US Navy during World War II from 1942-46.
On July 23, 1955 he married Caroline Kaat in Kohler. Caroline preceded him in death on July 2,
1998. Robert was a mechanical engineer for the Optenberg Iron
Works in Sheboygan for 35 years
before his retirement in 1985.
Robert was a longtime member
at Bethany Lutheran Church in
Kohler where he served as chairman, elder, Couples Bible Study
and on many committees. He was
also active in numerous professional associations and the Sheboygan Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed

fishing, camping, drafting and designing, and

spending winters at their
home in Fort Myers, FL.
He is survived by one
daughter, Amy (Joe)
Sacha of Stevenson,
Michigan; two sons,
Thomas (Paula) Harder
of Elgin, Illinois and
Robert (Cindy) Harder of
Yamhill, Oregon; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and
a special caring friend, Betty Hahn
of Kohler.
A memorial service to celebrate
Robert's life will take place at
Bethany Lutheran Church in
Kohler on Saturday, August 15,
2015 at 1 PM with the Rev. Robert
Steele officiating; Inurnment will
take place at Woodland Cemetery
in Kohler.
Family and friends will gather at
the church on Saturday from 11 am
until the time of the service at 1
pm.
A memorial fund is being established in his name for Sheboygan
Lutheran High School.

Cordell E. Brueckbauer (1917 - 2015)

Cordell E. Brueckbauer, 97, of Plymouth,
and formerly of Kohler,
passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at
the Waterford of Plymouth.
Cordell was born on
August 11, 1917, in the
Town of Lyndon,
daughter of Otto and Mary Elizabeth (Kampmann) Emley. She
was a 1935 graduate of Plymouth
High School and attended Sheboygan Business College. On November 21, 1941, she married
Roger Brueckbauer. Roger passed
away on October 6, 2004.
Cordell was a member of St.
John Evangelist Catholic Church
in Kohler. She was a member of
the Kohler Women's Club, bowling and golf leagues, bridge club,

and served as a Cub

Scout den mother.
Cordell enjoyed the outdoors, trips to the Door
County cottage, winters
in Florida, traveling,
golf, bowling, playing
cards, and going for
walks.
Cordell is survived by
her three daughters, Elizabeth
(Robert) Gilboy of Arizona, Mary
(David) Salkowski of Sheboygan,
and Ann (Gary) Wingert of Pennsylvania; her two sons, Robert
Brueckbauer of Green Bay and
Roger (Nerissa) Brueckbauer of
Illinois; eleven grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Cordell was preceded in death
by her husband of 63 years,
Roger, her daughter-in-law, Margaret Brueckbauer, two sisters,

Elizabeth (Eddie) Bares and Jureen Emley, and three brothers,

Gerald (Elvira) Emley, Vernon
(Shirley) Emley, and Monroe
(Dorothy) Emley.
A Mass of Christian Burial to
celebrate Cordell's life was held
on Monday, August 10, 2015, at
St. John Evangelist Catholic
Church in Kohler with Rev. Bob
Lotz officiating. Burial was at
Woodland Cemetery in Kohler.
A memorial fund has been established in Cordell's name for
the Alzheimer's Association .

Sports Core announces renovation

progress
In April, Sports Core Health and
Racquet Club initiated the first
phase of the largest renovation undertaking in its 36-year history a
complete makeover of the changing rooms, showers, restrooms and
steam rooms in its lower level. As
of July 10, and nine days ahead of
schedule, the renovation of the
Mens area was completed. Sports
Core allowed members to tour the
space which featured photos from
before construction began and key
features and benefits were highlighted. Among the improvements,
a more spacious changing space,
increased locker count, new
shower experiences, an upgraded
steam room and aesthetic improvements throughout the space.

Monday, July 13. This phase of the

renovation is scheduled to take less
time than the first, as planned dem-

olition is not as robust as the Mens

space. The team overseeing the
project anticipates construction of
Phase II will go just as smoothly as
Phase I and is optimistic all Sports
Core members will return to their
designated spaces by fall as scheduled. At that time, the third and
final phase will begin as the pool
walkway, tennis court hallway and
other common areas are updated.
