: GAMES : Veins vs Artery board.

Theme

: Physiology of Living Things

Learning Area

: Transport

Learning Objective

: Synthesising the concept of circulatory system

Learning Outcomes

: A students should be able to:

State what a circulatory system is.
State the three components of circulatory system in humans and
animals.
State the medium of transport in human and animals.
State the composition of human blood.
Explain the function of blood and haemolymph in transport.
Describe the structure of human blood vessels.
Explain how blood is propelled through the human circulatory
system, function of the human heart.

Type of game

: Vein Vs Artery

Instructions / Rules

: 1. Use the vein vs artery board provided.

2. Take turns to throw the dice.
3. Each player must throw a six to begin playing in the game.
After that, a six means an extra turn.
4. The number of moves is that shown on the dice.
5. If the chip lands at the bottom of a vein, move up the vein.
6. If the chip lands at the top of an artery, go down the artery.
7. If the chip lands on a heart, answer a question from the
stack of question cards :
If the answer is correct, move three steps forward.
If the answer is wrong, move five steps backward.
8. The first player to finish wins.

Materials needed

: 1. A dice
2. Chips
3. A set of question cards
4. Vein vs artery board

lowest oxygen concentration?
10. The diagram shows the front view of a
heart in a longitudinal section. What is the
function of P?

11. The graph shows the total surface area

of different types of blood vessels in the
human circulatory system. What is blood
vessel S?

ANSWERS
The system transports nutrients and oxygen
to cells and carries away waste materials
from the cells.
Blood, heart, blood-vessels
It is a muscular pump that circulates blood
throughout the body
Blood and haemolymph
Water, ions, plasma protein, hormones,
dissolved substances
Involved in blood clotting
Arteries, veins and capillaries
To deliver blood to all parts of the body
The pulmonary artery
It prevents the backflow of blood into the
left atrium when the left ventricle contract.

blood capillaries

12. The diagram shows the circulatory

system of an organism .Name the type of
the circulatory system shown.

It is a closed circulatory system.

13. The diagram shows cross sections of

three types of blood vessel. What are X, Y
and Z?

X- Vein
Y- Capillary
X- Artery

14. The diagram shows the right side of the

human heart. What is the state of the valves
at X and Y when the muscular walls of the
ventricle relax?

Valve at X - Open
Valve at Y - Close
