CPE08 Series User Manual

Chapter 1 Product Description

1.1 General Overview
CPE08 series is a converter for interconnecting Fast Ethernet (FE) with E1 which is based on Ethernet-over-PDH (EoPDH)
technique, a new breed of products integrating advanced Ethernet bridging with fully channelized TDM capabilities.
CPE08 series, are inverse multiplexer for providing Ethernet services bonded over multiple E1s (4/8/16 E1s), breaking the
bandwidth restriction of single E1. The CPE08 series will help carriers and enterprises to make full use of the traditional
TDM network in this TCP/IP Era, utilize legacy E1 resources in the public network to build broadband Ethernet data
network rapidly.
The CPE08 series Interface Converter is an Ethernet extension device utilizing TDM telecom infrastructure (the telecom
network of E1s/PDH/SDH carrying E1s). It converts the Ethernet data into E1 frame format for transmission over the
existing TDM (E1) links and then re-converts the E1 back into Ethernet data at far-end terminal, to bridge two Ethernet
LANs over the existing E1-based telecom network. The device can effectively utilize the redundant bandwidth of telecom
operators existing TDM network to transport Ethernet data with low investment.
CPE08 series comply with ITU-T G.8040 standard to encapsulate and map Ethernet packets into PDH timeslots. The
equipment provides 410/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet interfaces. CPE08 series can interoperate with the third party
devices with the same standard, can be flexibly configured and easily maintained, also provide complete network
management functions.

Chapter 5 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

The maintenance work can be separated into two categories: regular maintenance and troubleshooting. Regular
maintenance is important to ensure that the used equipment stays in good shape. Every system and equipment requires
constant checks to make sure that they are working properly. Failure to check and conduct regular maintenance will cause
complications and may inflict huge losses. This guide also gives general troubleshooting instructions and alarm
troubleshooting instructions that apply to the CPE08 equipment.

6.1 Maintenance
Maintenance generally refers to communication system maintenance. Its not only limited to this equipment, but also
includes lines/cables, external supporting equipment and site environment. Proper use of preventive maintenance
procedures can keep the CPE08 series equipment in top operating condition and minimize the need for costly, timeconsuming service procedures.
Site Maintenance
Maintenance procedures that you should perform regularly are maintaining your site environment.
Using the LEDs for Maintenance
User mainly obtains alarm information from alarm LED indicators, so user should pay attention to light or
blinking status during daily maintenance. From this aspect, user can examine on whether equipment works
properly or not.
Check on Equipment Alarm through EMS
Network management system can monitor real time performance without terminating traffic. It can also monitor
faults, judge fault type and find fault location. Therefore, its an effective tool for preventive maintenance and
fault processing.
There is not necessary for daily adjustment and test for the equipment. Many maintenance rules for analog
equipment do not apply to digital equipment. This equipment only needs regular precautionary monitoring,
instead of precautionary debugging. Do not check equipment if no obvious serious fault occurs in the network to
avoid human error.

6.2 Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the system caused by a failure of some kind. The problem
is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining the causes of these
symptoms so that it can be solved.

14 | P a g e
