1. AIM
The main aim is the idea of studying and critically analyzing the work of an architect who has
worked in India, in accordance to the climate and culture of the country.

2. OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the dissertation is to study and analyze the work of AR. R.K.KAUSHAL
CHIEF ARCHITECT , C.P.W.D. , NEW DELHI
To study how with the help of different forms and material give public buildings a
decent look which also mixes with the environment and site surroundings and
responsible for safeguarding the safety and welfare of the public.
To delve into the thought procedure and ideology of the architect, which allows us to
understand many underlying whys and wherefores. Through this endeavor I will
comprehended the multilayered thought procedure that goes in the building of a
landmark.
To study a structure in context of its site, space, culture and period, the idea is to
understand the architects vision and how successfully it had been translated into
tangible reality.

3. RATIONALE FOR SELECTION

The reason for choosing Architect R.K KAUSHAL is his simplicity and humane character of the
design. The Architect believes in the upliftment of the society through his style of architecture.
His projects have a mix use of built form and nature implied in merging of Indian and European
architectural elements. His designs aim at functionality of the project and simplicity and a sense
of modernity.
The reason behind choosing Ar. R.K. KAUSHAL is his modernity and human nature of the
designs. I am greatly influenced by the way he approaches each project and constantly tries to
develop new techniques and experiment with new ideas.
I like the way he uses the Indian elements and sustainability forms, the core of his designs. The
architect has achieved numerous awards from Government of India and his works has been
published in many national and international journals and magazines. His projects are based on
the thoughts where abstraction, and a separation between nature and built form, plays
important roles. His designs aim at building a relation between the outside and inside of the
public building. A sense of simplicity yet very modern and outstanding features can be seen in
his designs.

AR. R.K. KAUSHAL

R.K. Kaushal , currently working as CHIEF ARCHITECT in C.PW.D

(MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT) has given INDIA his unique brand of architecture,
particularly BARRIER FREE & ENERGY EFFICIENT buildings. He has been associated with several
Govt. projects. He has designed some very contemporary Govt. institutional , residential
buildings in Delhi.
Early Life
Shri RAJESH K KAUSHAL was born in 1964, in SOLAN H.P. After completing his schooling in
1982 from a village in HIMACHAL PRADESH he completed his Bachelorette in ARCHITECTURE
from CHANDIGARH COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE (PUNJAB UNIVERSITY) in 1987.
Professional life

He joined Central Public Works Department (C.P.W.D.) Govt. Of India in 1989 as deputy
architect. Since then he has travelled a long journey to shape his carrier as an architect and rose
to his present position of the CHIEF ARCHITECT in C.P.W.D. He was also selected by Govt. of
India on deputation to MAURITIUS in the INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM as
I.TECH. Expert for 2 years from 2005 to 2007. Government of India has granted number of
awards for his contribution and achievements in the field of the architecture.
