emphasized throughout the project. This project is specially designed to make the

INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT

Scope: This project is particularly well suited for advanced processing of
any Shoe Showroom specially an educational college and can be better used in a
better way in the context of the changed scenario. This project contains all the
necessary aspects which are required to handle any Shoe Showroom that of an
educational college too.
The silent features of the program are as follows:
Display record of the brands of shoes in the Shoe Showroom into the database
through the Project.
Prepare the bill using the following divisions:
1. Type of shoes:
1.1. According to Quality (e.g. Leather)
1.2. According to wearer (e.g. Gents, Ladies, Child)
2. Company of the Shoe
3. Size of the Shoe
4. Rate and Quantity of the shoe
Print the bill using VAT and discount factors

Prepare the purchase order
Maintain the Stock
Security consideration has been taken. Unauthorized users are unable to access
the processing.

assumed great significance in the context of the changed global scenario.
Information technology due to undergoing rapid technological development has
been the fastest growing sector of the Indian industry. Computer has invaded our
society and become integral part of our lives. Computer programming is a
demanding skill, much like creative, writing or playing a musical instrument.

any. I studied the system deeply and prepared a list of the shortcomings and its
limitations. During the study I also find out the plus points in the existing system.
Then the matter was also discussed with the librarian of the college. They
provided me with number of advices which were beneficial for me in the
preparation of the project. I also asked them about their requirements regarding the
project. They also told me the limitations according to them which they find in the
existing project. I examined the limitations provided to me by the Principal and the
Librarian of
college and short listed the limitations and shortcomings in the
existing system.
A WORD ABOUT visual Basic

Visual Basic is an powerful application development tool developed by the
Microsoft with the advent of Windows. It is used for creating and customizing
windows based program. Visual basic is a descendant of BASIC language.
Visual basic is not just a language but it is an Integrated Development
Environment . IDE is basically a term commonly used in the programming
word to describe the interface and environment where you develop test and
debug your applications.
FEASIBILITY STUDY
During the feasibility study, the analyst evaluates the existing system. This
study provides a clear sense of direction for the subsequent development of the
system. The analyst estimates the costs and benefits of the proposed system. He
also evaluates other alternates to the systems, and estimates the feasibility of the
system technically and economically to determine whether it is worth wile to
proceed with project.

DEFINATION OF THE
PROBLEM
Actually the success of a project depends on problem defined and correctly
carried out. Importance should be given to user needs rather than their wants. Often
problems come into focus after a joint meeting between the user and the analyst.
The first question that came in my mind was what the problem was
regarding the storage of books in the college. Regarding the problems the matter
was discussed with the Librarian of the college, asking his problems, if any. He
gave me a list of his problems which according to him were very necessary to
avoid in the existing system. The outcome of this discussion was the birth of this
project.
The main limitations and shortcomings in the existing system were as
follows:
Data is not stored online
Their storage was not properly
The daily transaction cannot be handled properly
Students Shoe Showroom fine cannot be calculated.

System design is a solution to the creation of a new system. This important
phase is composed of several steps. It provides the understanding and procedural
details necessary for implementing the system.
In preparing this project I have received help and guidance from several
sources and I wish to express my sincere appreciation for their contributions. I felt
indebted to all those writers and researchers whose thoughts and theories have
been helpful in bringing out this project though it is difficult to mention their
names in an exhaustive manner.

number of problems as they have to prepare the list of fine. This affect the working
hours of the librarian. There was a delay in the preparation of the fine detail of
current week or day.
Due to this problem the librarian also have to face a lot of problems.
What opinions are available concerning a solution to the

problem?
I received a large number of opinions from the librarian and management of
college regarding the preparation of this project which were beneficial for me to
prepare the project. I received a large number of opinions from my friends and
colleagues in the preparation of this project. The outcome of this discussion was
the birth of this project.
I am grateful to my colleagues and friends who have given their valuable
suggestions and have favored me by providing the valuable inputs for developing
this project. Finally I pay my regards to the management of college who have
coordinated all activities in bringing out this project.
SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION
A crucial phase in the systems life cycle is the successful implementation of the
new system design. Implementation simply means converting a new system design
into operation. Or in other words it can be said Implementation means the process
of onverting a new or a revised system design into an operational one. This
involves creating computer compatible files, training the operating staff and
installing hardware, terminals before the system is up and running. The conversion
of a old system into a new one should be exciting because it is the last step before
the candidate system begins to show results.
In system implementation user training is crucial for minimizing resistance to
change and giving the new system a chance to prove its worth. Training aids such
as user friendly manuals, a data dictionary provide the user with a good start on the
new system.
In the project Shoe Showroom Management the end users of the system are
the librarian of the college. They have been provided with all the necessary
requirements that are required with the new system. They have also been provided
with the user manual that will guide in running the new system.
The subject matter of this project has been presented in simple language and
lucid style. The use of an interactive programming style is emphasized throughout
the project.

SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Maintenance is the enigma of system development. It holds the software
industry captive, tying up programming resources. Analysts and programmers
spend more and more time maintaining programs than they do writing them.
Maintenance accounts for 50-80 percent of total system development.
Many maintenance measures have been taken in the preparation of the
project Shoe Showroom Management. A good audit trail is the key to detecting
errors and frauds in the new system.
There are certain measures which are been used in the project so that no
blank record is entered in the database at the time of record entry. It is done so
because the entry of the blank record will create problems in the database as there
will be a roll no allotted in the database for the blank record. Thus it will create
confusion in the mind of the end user. Therefore the entrance of blank record into
the database has been avoided. It can be seen in the record entry form where
pressing the down arrow key will only start the entry of records. The student has
been allowed two books two issue , they cannot issue more than two books so
security has been taken. Moreover before issuing it is considered that whether book
is available or not.
The book id in the project are automatically entered while issuing not
manually. Thus there will be no confusion in the mind of the end user whether to
allot the book id.
Security consideration has also been taken into consideration. First the user
has to enter the correct password then only he/she can do rest of the processing.
Thus, unauthorized users are unable to access the processing of the result.
COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS

Data gathering, traditional or structured, is only one part of system analysis.
The next steps are examining the data gathered, assessing the situation, looking at
the alternatives, and recommending a solution. The costs and benefits of each
alternatives guide the selection of the best system for the job.
Costs and benefits may be tangible or intangible, direct or indirect, fixed or
variable. Cost estimates also take into consideration hardware, personnel, facility,
and supply costs for final evaluation. Cost/benefit analysis then identifies the costs
and benefits of a given system and categories them for analysis. Then a method of
evaluation is selected and the results are interpreted for action. The evaluation
methods range from the simple net benefit analysis to more complex methods such
as present value and payback analysis.
Changes to existing system must be cost justified, which requires the system
analyst to determine the operating cost for the existing system and to estimate both
the operating cost of the proposed system and the cost to convert it.
The system analysts must also estimate the potential benefits that are
provided in the new system. When the cost and benefits are compared the
comparison must demonstrate that changing to the proposed system is worth the
investment of time and money.
A system project is indeed an investment and requires serious thoughts on
the part of the organization. Expect return on investment, in terms of reduced cost
and improved services, should be anticipated in the same way as when money is
invested.
Cost /benefit analysis is a procedure that gives a picture of the various costs,
benefits and rules associated with a system. The determination of costs and
benefits entails the following steps:

Identify the costs and benefits pertaining to a given project.
2.
Categorize the various costs and benefits for analysis.
3.
Select a method of evaluation.
4.
Interpret the results of the analysis.
5.
Take action.
In developing cost estimates for a system, we need to consider several cost

elements. Among them are hardware, personnel, facility, operating, and supply
costs.
1.
Hardware costs relate to the actual purchase or lease of the computer
and peripherals. Determining the actual cost of hardware is generally more difficult
when the system is shared by various users than for a dedicated stand alone system.
2.
Personnel cost include EDP staff salaries and benefits (health
insurance, vacation time, sick pay etc.) as well as pay for those involved in
developing the system.
3.
Facility costs are expenses incurred in the preparation of the physical
site where the application or the computer will be in operation. This includes
wiring, flooring, acoustics, lighting, and air conditioning. These costs are treated as
one time costs and are incorporated into the overall costs estimate of the candidate
system.
4.
Operating costs includes all costs associated with day to day
operations of the system; the amount depends on the number of shifts, the nature of
the applications and the caliber of the operating staff. There are various ways of
covering operating costs.
5.
Supply costs are variable costs that increase with increased use of
papers, ribbons, disks and the like. They should be estimated and included in the
overall cost of the system.
A system is also expected to provide benefits. The first task is to identify

each benefit and then assign a monetary value to it for cost/benefit analysis.
Benefits may be tangible and intangible, direct or indirect, fixed or variable.
The major two benefits are improving performance and minimizing the cost
of processing. The performance category emphasizes improvement in the accuracy
of or access to information and easier access to the system by authorized user.
Minimizing costs through an efficient systemerror control or reduction of the
staffis a benefit that should be measured and included in cost/benefit analysis.
INSTALLATION
Installation involves loading the software, at the customer site, and ensuring
complete functioning of the system. Once the new system is installed, both the
existing system (manual or computerized) and the new system are run
concurrently, with both being fed the same input data, The output data is then
compared to see if there are any discrepancies. This continues for a period of time,
until all aspects of the new system are tested for accurate results, after which the
old system is discontinued.
EXPLANATION OF THE DATA FLOW DIAGRAM:

Data Flow Diagrams are a way of expressing the system requirements in a
graphical form. Data flow diagrams are flow models.
These are not flow charts. There are four symbols which are used in
preparing a Data Flow diagram. They are
1. Square: The Square is used to represent the data source.
2. Ellipse or circle: The ellipse is used to show the involved process.
3. Arrows: The arrows are used to show the flow of data.
4. Open rectangle: The open rectangle is used to represent the data
store.
The data flow diagram shown in the previous page describes the teacher as
the data source. The first process is the taking of the examination by the teacher.
Then the answer sheets of the examination taken are being checked by the
teachers. Then the obtained marks of the students are being feeded in the computer
system. Then the computer results are generated by means of some of reports.
Then the computer output is taken to the Principals office for signature of the
Principal. After the Principals signature the report is given to the students.
