2. Education & Training Background:
Dr. Hafied Gany was born in Watan Soppeng, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, on
November 10, 1944. He started his professional career in the Water Resources
Development and Management as a construction supervisor of water resources
projects after completing his civil engineering undergraduate in Bandung in 1967.
From 1968 to 1981, Dr. Gany had a series of experiences working in the water
resources design, construction, Operation & Maintenance and management of
water resources infrastructures, as well as field research and experimental
activities on the same disciplines and their related subjects.
In 1979, he obtained M.Sc. degree from the University of Southampton, U.K. He
was assigned as the project manager of the Construction Guidance Service
Center - CGSC - Project, at the same time as chief of the Research Station for
Hydraulic Structures of the Ministry of Public Works in Bekasi, West Java
Province from 1985 to 1989.
In 1993 he obtained an interdisciplinary Ph.D. majoring Engineering, Economics,
Sociology, and Demography at the University of Manitoba, Canada, with
commendation. Alumnus with commendation, of The Indonesian Supreme Civil
Service's College (SPATI-II), National Institute of Civil Administration 1996-1997.
Dr. Gany has published more than 100 professional papers, eight books, beside
his experiences to attend international seminars, conferences and congresses in
more than 30 countries over five continents.

3. Employment and Professional Records:

From 1995 to 1999, he had been assigned as the Director of Water
Resources Management and Conservation, DGWRD, Ministry of Public
Works, R.I.;
From 1999 to 2000, he had been assigned as Deputy Director General of
Water Resources Development DGWRD;
From 2000 to 2001 assigned as Assistant Deputy of Water Resources
Protection and Conservation, State Ministry of Public Works November;
From 2001 to 2002 as the Director of Research Institute for Water Resources,
Ministry of Settlement and Regional Infrastructures (SRI);
From 2002 to 2003 as the Executive Secretary of the Directorate General of
Research and Development, Ministry of SRI;
From 2003 till present as a Senior Water Resources Development and
Management Specialist, Institute of Civil Services Training and Education,
Ministry of Public Works, Republic of Indonesia;
From 1993 to 2000 as the Secretary General of the Indonesian National
Committee of International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and
as Vice President of ICID for International Affairs since 2000;

Management (INPIM) - An Organization previously Based in Washington, DC
- since 1996; at the same time as;
President of the Indonesian Chapter of INPIM (INPIM-INA) till present. He has
a number of experiences to work as the short term consultant with the UN-
ESCAP in Timor Leste, and other projects in Indonesia.
Dr Gany has been elected at the International Executive Council Meeting of
ICID, Sacramento, USA, November 2007, to be the Vice President of ICID
International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, for the term 2007-2010.
Most resently (December 2009, at the 60th IECM of ICID in New Delhi) Dr
Gany entrusted to be the Chairman of Permanent Committee of Strategic
Planning and Organizational Affairs PCSPOA of ICID, untill December
2011.
The Indonesian Senior Committee Member for Professional Civil Engineers'
Assessor since 1995; and
The Indonesian Committee Member for assessor on Professional Hydraulic
Engineers' (HATHI) since 2002.

4. Awards:
He was awarded by the Minister of Public Works a 20 years honor for an
outstanding services at the Ministry of Public Works in 1988.
Presidential Award for 30 years outstanding services to the Government of
Indonesia, August, 1996.
Presidential Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement, December
1996.
Presidential Award for National Development Contribution, August 1999.
