Tel:051 520799
November 30th, 20-Joanne Montague
Via Belmeloro 18
40123 Bologna
Dear Ms Montague,
As you are probably aware, the recent smoking ban has had a profound impact on our business. Our
sales have dropped 40 percent in the last six months. Though we do not expect this to be a long-term
concern for our business, we don't expect sales to return to normal until the summer when our patio
opens for the tourist season.
Due to the loss in business we regret to inform you that we are laying-off all of our hosts and hostesses
for the winter and spring. With business being so slow our servers can handle the task of greeting and
seating customers on their own.
You are entitled to two week's severance pay, which will be paid in full on your next paycheck. Please
come in for any scheduled shifts next week.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication at Pino's Pizzaria. Please apply again for our next
summer season.
Sincerely,
Franco Bellini

The following text is for questions 28 to 30.
Lesothosaurus diagnosticus was one of the most primitive and earliest ornithischians, or "birdhipped" dinosaurs. Ornithischians were one of the two major groups of dinosaurs and included such
familiar species as the armor-plated Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus and the three-horned Triceratops.
Lesothosaurus was small, agile, and bipedal, bearing seemingly little resemblance to the
gigantic, quadrupedal ornithischians that came later. But physical features, such as hip structure and
jaws and teeth designed to chew plants, link Lesothosaurus to the later ornithischians.
Lesothosaurus evolved in what is now southern Africa in the early Jurassic period, just over
200 million years ago. It gets its name from the African country of Lesotho, where early fossils were
uncovered.
The lifestyle of Lesothosaurus has been compared with that of modern-day gazelles, which
browse on low-growing vegetation and nervously scan their surroundings for danger, fleeing when a
predator approaches too near.
Lesothosaurus had a small head with very large eyes, short front legs with grasping hands, and
an elongated body and tail about three feet (one meter) long. Its jaws were lined with small, serrated
teeth for shredding plants and, like most ornithischians, its mouth was tipped with a pointed beak.
Long, muscular legs, hollow bones, and clawed feet would have allowed this lightweight dinosaur to
outsprint or outmaneuver most of its predators.
Lesothosaurus likely died out by the mid-Jurassic, but later ornithischians thrived for some
150 million years until the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

The following text is for questions 35 to 38.
Why global warming happens?
Have you ever heard of "global warming"? This is the name for the condition, or phenomenon, of a
gradually rising temperature on Earth. When you catch a cold or become ill, you get a fever, right?
In a similar way, the Earth's "body temperature" is steadily increasing. Now, do you know what
causes this phenomenon?
Every day, the Earth receives light from the sun, whether it's a sunny day, cloudy day, or
rainy day. The Earth's surface reflects this heat from the sun, or "solar heat," as something called
"infrared rays," and sends it back out into space. If this were all that happened, however, no solar
heat would stay on Earth. The Earth would in fact be a very cold planet today, with a temperature
of minus 18 degrees Celsius (-0.4 degrees Fahrenheit), and with no people, or any other living
things, capable of actually living on it.
Fortunately for us, though, the Earth is surrounded by a thin, invisible layer that absorbs
some of these infrared rays and sends others back to Earth. Thanks to this layer, our home planet is
much warmer: about 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) on average. We simply couldn't
live on Earth without this layer.
Earth is just like a greenhouseone of those see-through buildings where people grow
vegetablesor a glasshouse in a botanical garden for tropical plants. That's why this is called the
"greenhouse effect," which means that the Earth keeps warm because of the invisible layer that
surrounds it.
Recently, this layer has gotten thicker and thicker, meaning that this layer is absorbing more
of the hot infrared rays and sending more of them back down to Earth. As a result, our planet is
getting warmer and warmer.
