THE ADVANTAGES OF

LEARNING LINGUISTIC IN TEACHING PRACTICE

Since in the high school, we felt that linguistic is very important in learning
english especially for being a teacher. Linguistic Studying is not only teaching
about languages, but also improves our practical and intellectual skills. There are
parts of linguistic:

Phonetics is part of linguistics in that one of the main aims of phonetics is

to determine the categories that can be used in explanatory description of
languages. One way of looking at the grammar of a language is to consider
it to be a set of statements that explains the relation between the meanings
of all possible sentences in a language and the sounds of which they are
composed. In this view, a grammar may be divided into three parts: the
syntactic component, which is a set of rules describing the ways in which
words may form sentences; the lexicon, which is a list of all the words and
the categories to which they belong; and the phonological component,
which is a set of rules that relates phonetic descriptions of sentences to the
syntactic and lexical descriptions

International Phonetic Alphabet,

o

(IPA), an alphabet developed with the

Intention of enabling

students and linguists to learn and record the pronunciation of

languages

accurately,

thereby

avoiding

the

confusion

of

inconsistent, conventional spellings and a multitude of individual

transcription systems. One aim of the IPA was to provide a unique
symbol for each distinctive sound in a languagethat is, every
sound, or phoneme, that serves to distinguish one word from
another.

Morphology
o is the part of linguistics that deals with the study of words, their
internal structure and partially their meanings. It is also interested
in how the users of a given language understand complex words
and invent new lexical items. What is more, free morphemes can
be subdivided into two categories: lexical morphemes and
inflectional morphemes. Lexical morphemes are words that have
some meaning verbs, adjectives, nouns, like for example print,
house, pretty, fire, go, girl. As there is no problem in adding new
entities to this group of words they are treated as an open class of
words. Functional morphemes, on the other hand, are a closed class
of words, articles, prepositions, pronouns which do not carry any
meaning on their own, but only fulfill a grammatical function.
o Not only free morphemes are subdivided, there is a similar
situation with bound morphemes which are subdivided into
derivational and inflectional morphemes. Derivational morphemes
are those morphemes which produce new words, or change the
function of a word. It is achieved by means of prefixes or suffixes
in case of English and infixes in other languages, like Arabic.
Inflectional morphemes do not create new words, but only show
grammatical functions of a word. A good example of an
inflectional language could be Latin which has numerous case
endings for nouns, as well as endings for verbs and adjectives.

Phonology,
o study of the sound patterns that occur within languages. Some
linguists include phonetics, the study of the production and
description of speech sounds, within the study of phonology.

And There are many benefits such as:

Linguistics research involves talking with native speakers of different

languages and collaborating with a team to develop experiments.

Thus, a linguist gains much experience working with a group of people

with diverse language and academic backgrounds.

Linguistics is a global science, so the community is a diverse team.

It's important to train language skills (phonology), practice writing skills

and writing (spelling, morphological, syntactic, semantic and leksikologi).
Between the teaching of any language with linguistic opposing views.

learning and understanding linguistic and when we become a teacher, we'll

be a knowledgeable teacher who know not only practical part but also the
theory under the practical stuff .

Since high school, I have been fascinated by language and its use in society. I
chose to minor in linguistics because it is the study of language.
I think Linguistics is basic to learn more about English or other language
deeply. The most important Functions of linguistics are so many knowledge that
we'll get, and we'll loving English very much becouse we'll be the next
teacher/lecturer.From this course, I became knowing about theories of natural
language And it's so interested to me.It was made me love and love with English
And ofcourse with my mother tongue - Indonesian and Banjaresee.
I decided to minor in linguistics because it is fascinating to learn how
languages come about and the different components that comprise a language or
dialect. It is also interesting how communication can be context-specific, between
different people (for example, between friends, between a boss and an employee,
etc.) and between different regions in different countries. The area that interests
me the most is dialectology. Every area in every country has a unique way of
speaking and communicating and it interests me very much to gain an
understanding of how dialects are formed, how languages change across time and
place, etc.
