TRO: SHADOWS OF WAR E1.0

Dear reader, welcome to the Shadows!
This Technical Readout is a fan project that began in 2011. It has
been the work of many years and many people. This is the translated
and reduced version of the original TRO, with a few selected units. The
original TRO includes a Historical TRO section about the fall of the old
Star League. Also, there are Clan units that don't belong to the Jihad
era. This has forced us to insert a small sidebar with relevant
information.

thanks, amongst other people, to Javier Antn Novella, Miguel ngel

Centeno Hinojosa, David Gmez, John Haward and Pompeyo Reina,
that left us this year to join Hanse Davion in Heaven.

There are 4 eras and tech bases featured in this TRO:

-Inner Sphere. Star League.
-Inner Sphere. Jihad.
-Clan. Golden Age.
-Clan. Jihad.
Just remember that some units are available in several eras.
This TRO focuses in new and untested units. Some of them are
unusual and some of them are somewhat wacky. There are several
tech levels involved; some are advanced and others are experimental.
The tech level is also noted in the entry.
The record sheets are Solaris Skunk Werks files. There are several
record sheets that are not supported but they are available in other
formats. The record sheets are available and include units not featured
yet in the English Version.
This TRO is the joint effort of people from Spain to Australia. We have
received help from a lot of sources, too many to be accounted for. My

SHADOWS OF WAR
all Mankind. It will be so easy....

Amaris Empire
Belevue, Vancouver. Earth
9th September, 2778
Stefan Amaris smiled. His smile had
opened a lot of doors in the past, but now
he didnt smile often. The Emperor had
terrible nightmares each night. A demon
came to haunt him. The worst part was
that, after awakening, he remembered
that in fact, a demon was chasing him.
Aleksandr Kerensky had invaded Earth.
Somehow, he had defeated the SDS
system, something that was impossible.
Something supernatural helped him.
Something evil that wanted to rob Stefan
Amaris of his Throne, the reward for a life
of hard work. He deserved it.
Today, however, he wasnt scared. He
had received great new last night. A brand
new factory for assault mechs has been
completed. 500 mechs each week, they
promised him. He knew better. There
would be even more. He ensured that
Martinson Armaments would understand
his plea. He only had to kidnap several
daughters of the engineers. With those
assault mechs he would crush Kerenskys
army and become again the Emperor of

Yesterday he organized a big party and

drank a lot of beer. And that had a price.
He asked the limousine to stop in the
middle of nowhere, a few kilometers away
from the new plant. The inauguration
ceremony would have to wait, the
Emperor needed to relieve himself. The
idea of himself, the Mighty Emperor
Stefan Amaris, Lord of the Star League
and the known universe, with his trousers
down in front of a tree, made him smile.
All was correct. Finally.
Suddenly, he heard a roar. At first is was
a distant and faint roar. It was not an
animal. It was something. Then the roar
became louder. It was an infernal noise.
The smile in his face disappeared. The
roar was demonic, straight out of hell. His
body began to tremble and the roar
became even louder. He began to felt it
inside him. He began to scream and run
into the woods. It was in vain. The roar
became deafening and then, four huge
bombers overfled his head, headed to the
factory.
Sixty feet over Amaris, the Lieutenant
Ivan Fredorovich Burya flew his Tupolev
TU-170 Strela. Almost five hundred years
old, the bomber flew fast and low without
hesitation. Tupolev engineers were
smiling in their graves seeing this

venerable bomber flyings toward the

target. Beyond obsolete, the Strela still
was a great airplane for bombing a target
against no opposition. However, they
were on Earth, attacking a factory. It was
a suicide mission. And he had planned the
mission. It had happened 2 days before.
Aleksandr Kerensky was near several
monitors. He looked worried. The officer
had brought bad news. Other officers
talked in a low tone until the General
screamed. I cant believe it. He has built
a factory in the middle of an invasion.
Thats crazy!
A factory churning out hundreds of
assault mechs could kill thousands of his
soldiers or, even stop the invasion. He
looked at General Creigthon We need
that factory bombed. Now. What do we
have in available air forces?
Creightons face told him the sad truth.
The air campaign was not going well.
They had too many loses and air
superiority was a dream. There are no
available forces, Creighton? Creighton
shook his head. This battle will be a hell,
then
(Follows on Page 4)

(Comes from Page 3)

Lieutenant Burya was 72 years old. He was
old enough to know when to act, no matter
the ranks. He cleared his throat. Sir, there
are available forces. We have a flight of
Strelas prepared to strike.
Kerensky saw him. They knew each other
from childhood. Lieutenant, the Strela is
obsolete and lacks range. He had an
answer for that. Sir, the Strela was designed
to this kind of missions. It has range enough
to return to a friendly zone. It is an obsolete
airplane, but it can fly low enough to not be
detected.
His old friend shook his head. Ivan
Fredorovich Burya. You know that it is a
suicide mission. You wont return. The
Lieutenant was prepared. I know it. I will fly
only with volunteers. The factory will become
a crater. It was enough, a sad smile
appeared in the face of his friend. You honor
the SLDF. You have the green light. Good
luck with the mission.
He ignored the cars under him. They were a
few miles away from the target. They would
reach it in two minutes. Hamilton looked
nervous. He was very young and he
volunteered knowing the odds. The same

happened with the other fifteen. Amaris had

robbed them a lot of things. Families lost,
peace destroyed, their future crippled. Now
they could get their revenge. They couldnt
damage Amaris forces until now, but today
would be their finest hour.
The mission has gone well until now. A solar
storm has rendered the most advanced
sensors useless. Over the North Pole enemy
radars didnt work properly, and they could
slip the bombers through flying only 30 feet
over the sea. They got saltstains on the
cockpit glass and a safe passage to Canada.
They had no problems in the wilderness of
Canada, but now they were near the target.
Hamilton, tell the others that we have 90
seconds to begin the maneuver to get
enough angle. Using the formation lights
and morse, the old bombers received the
message. They had to perform a risky
maneuver to get that angle.
That maneuver was crazy. He learnt the
maneuver 50 years before, in the Academy.
Those were happy times. They explained the
maneuver almost laughing. The airplane
should climb to achieve more height and
energy to launch the bombs further than
expected. Newton would to the job for them.
It was risky as hell and nobody used it
anymore thanks to modern bombs and

satellites. Those bombs wouldnt work today,

too much ECM. They would splash the target
using old school maneuvers.
The Lieutenant began the bombing
procedure. The targeting system was very
old, but it worked. They were 60 seconds
away from the target. An alarm roared.
Lieutenant, enemy detected, it is an
aerospace fighter. That was terrible news,
an aerospace fighter could shoot all of them
down in a few moments.
20 seconds later, Katyas Strela vanished in
a huge ball of fire. She was his friend of 15
years. Her death gave him and the others
time. A light in the console turned on. It was
time to climb. Risking death, the Strela
began to rise.
The remaining Strelas climbed, but one was
shot down a few seconds later. Only two
remained. Burya focused in the bombing
maneuver. He must hit the target. He had 41
tons of bombs. If the other Strela hit it would
be enough. The cockpit had gone silent.
There were no screams, no noises. Only
veteran pilots striking a target. The bomb bay
doors opened.

(Follows on Page 5)

SHADOWS OF WAR
The old airplane had come to destroy the
factory and nobody could avoid it.
(Comes from Page 4)
Then the airplane trembled and alarms
invaded the cockpit. Hamilton reported
fast. Major damage to the left wing. The
launching system was blocked. The plane
was barely under control. It was a
disaster.
The only relief came when he saw the
other Strela launching its bombs and
turning to face the fighter, giving him time.
Burya knew that he should destroy the
target. He could feel the stress in the
airplane and the trembling grew worse,
but he could keep the control. The factory
was in sight. He could reach it.
Another alarm sounded and a thundering
whistle followed. The old anti missile
system, designed by the Soviets, was
working. It stopped a salvo, but he could
feel another hit. The airplane trembled,
but the hit was not fatal. He looked at the
crew.

Coldly, Burya adjusted the dive. A 200

tons direct hit. It would be enough. The
Lieutenant remembered his life. A happy
youth spent in Terra. His first flight. His
first love. His wife. His home. His son. The
corpse of his wife amidst the ruins of his
bombed home. The news of the death of
his son. He would have his vengeance.
Then he felt the hit.
The Strela crashed in the factory, which
was obliterated. Stefan Amaris could see
the huge ball of fire. The Emperor knelt
down crying, his last hope crushed. A
demonic force had destroyed him and his
dreams.
Emerged from the shadows of war, a
relic from the past designed to destroy the
planet rose to protect it from the worst
threat it had ever faced. The engineers
from Tupolev smiled in their graves. Ivan
Fredorovich Burya smiled, too.

They were silent, but grim determination

burned in their eyes. They knew the risks.
The Strela began to dive. It received more
hits but they werent enough.

Primary Factory: Terra
Communication System: Marshal Long-Voice
Targeting and Tracking System: GPT MultiTrack

prototypes later they got the Atila. A gauss

rifle configuration was tested but, finally, one
with an ER Large Laser and LRMs was
chosen as the definitive version.

General Information.

Battle History.

VTOLs have traditionally been very fragile

units. Another drawback was the impossibility
of carrying heavy weapons. The new Atila is a
design that addresses these drawbacks.

Despite a sabotage attempt by the Com

Guards, a line of Bochum's plant was retooled
to build the Atila. Building them was not an
easy task for Krupp and it required the help of
several contractors. Those efforts were
justified, because the Atila shone in the
battles in which it took part.

Design Features.
The Atila needed almost twenty years to
reach final production. Krupp obtained data
from the old Star League that allowed them to
to install a huge XXL engine in a VTOL frame.
After gathering experience with the Pinto,
they tried to design a better VTOL. 30

There were problems with the structural

tensions caused by the engine during sharp
turns at great speeds, but they were solved
when small wings were added. Those wings
added extra lift and improved the handling of
the VTOL. The only problem that couldn't be
solved was the price tag, which was
astronomical.

Variants.
The 30 protoypes all have different
configurations, and the Gauss Rifle variant is
the most balanced one. Nowadays there are
a few rumours regarding a new factory which
will build that variant.
Notable Pilots.
Precentor Louise Morgan. The Precentor
was a famed test pilot in ComStar before her
defection. An ardent follower of the Word of
Blake, she lives in spartan conditions and she
is known for her charitable actions.
That charity disappears when she is in the
air, as she becomes a flamboyant and
arrogant pilot. Her Level III is aware of that
change, but they don't care because she is a
well known marksman and has destroyed 23
Mechs in 2 years of combat.

Deployed in small formations, they were very

good at chasing down isolated units and ECM
carriers. The Alliance was forced to improve
their anti-air defenses. Shooting down one of
them was very hard and, and the Atila was
beloved by its crews.

HORUS

Mass: 30 tons
Chassis: Unknown
Power Plant: 160 Nissan XL
Armor: Stargazer Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
2 General Systems Extended Range Medium
Lasers
4 Wraith SRM-6 Launchers
Manufacturer: Unknown
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communication System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown
General Information.
A traditional clan, the Jade Falcons have
come with several nasty surprises in the last
years. A trend towards use of more
aggressive units is clearly forming. The Horus
is one of such new units, a scary, death or
glory attack VTOL.
Design Features.
There is a surprising lack of information
regarding the Horus. Usually, Clan factories
are easy to infiltrate, but it is clear that
something very wrong has happened in the
Jade Falcon Occupation Zone.

Whatever it is, it has affected intel

operations. The Horus is a very advanced
unit, with an improved frame that allows the
Horus perform maneuvers never seen before.
There are 3 sets of small wings suggesting
that the Horus may carry extra loadt, but there
is no solid evidence supporting this claim at
this time.
The weapons are very powerful and focused
on short range engagements. The armor is
very strong and it allows the Horus to survive
that kind of combat. The cockpit configuration
has raised safety concerns because it is too
close to the engine intakes.

Falcon forces attacked a level II of Blakist

assault Mechs. The first coordinated strike
destroyed 3 Mechs.
After that stunt, the Word of Blake forces hid
in the canyon network. It was a poor move
and the level II was destroyed. Oddly enough,
there are reports of a Horus taking part in
raids with the Green Ghosts, adding even
more mystery about their origins.
Variants.
A Horus with LRMs was spotted on
Hesperus II, but it was a field modification
instead of a new variant.

Battle History.
Notable Pilots.
The Horus is very popular in the Touman.
The nose looks like the beak of a falcon and
there is a lot of nose art to reflect that
concept. A VTOL with more firepower than
conventional units, and even light Mechs was
a surprise. but it fitted the aggressive Jade
Falcon mentality. Ideally suited to hitting
isolated units, the Horus has been used
against more powerful Mechs in daring
attacks.

Star Captain Michael Buhallin. This

clansman had a very weird interest in UFOs
and aliens. That was unusual in Clan Jade
Falcon, and he faced a lot of trials of
grievance. After winning several of them, he
received a new Horus. A good shooter, his
Horus has destroyed a lot of Mechs without
even being hit.

During the battles for Hesperus II, Jade

Mass: 40 tons

Armament:
2 Diverse Optics Large Lasers
Manufacturer: Vankateswara Mech Refit
Factory
Primary Factory: Tamarind
Communication System: CN-N40
Targeting and Tracking System: AR10-16
General Information.
WiGE units were uncommon for centuries.
Then the Jihad came and forced everybody to
adapt and bring new military hardware to the
field. One of such forces was the Duchy of
Tamarind-Abbey, that was desperately in
need of more vehicles and mechs. GrahamDavis Enterprises were too busy but the
Vankateswara Battlemech Refit Facility had a
civilian vehicle design, the Cannas, that could
easily be upgraded to a full military vehicle.
Desperation forced the Duchy to accept the
new WiGE.

as a courier, only able to do recon duty if

forced to do so. The upgrade changed that. A
big engine allowed for more armor, and the
sensors were replaced.
Twin nose mounted large Lasers gave the
Cannas respectable firepower at range.
Despite being faster and heavier than
expected, the Cannas control systems were
not improved and the Cannas is infamous for
the suffering from instability. Several tests
suggested that the lasers were unbalanced,
but Vankateswara did not correct anything.
The cockpit is also very cramped and is totally
inadequate for extended missions, marking
this WIGE as one of the most uncomfortable
units deployed in the Jihad era.
Battle History.
With a bad reputation even before its first
battle, its poor performance didn't surprise
anyone. In fact, being assigned to a Cannas
was one of the worst punishments a crewman
could suffer in Tamarind forces. The Cannas
ended becoming the laughingstock of the
entire Duchy.

Design Features.
The Cannas was conceived at the beginning

better headrests allowed the Cannas to be

more effective. When the world of Blake
raided Tamarind, a full company of Cannas
shadowed the entire Level III allowing the rest
of their forces to prepare a good defense.
Then they hide out to sea and, when the
battle began, raided the rearguard destroying
the Blakist DropShip.
Variants.
There are no variants of the Cannas.
However, there is a field refit with a gauss rilfe
replacing the lasers.
Notable Pilots.
Lieutenant Michelle Wyrmal. She was
handed a Cannas as a punishment for
disobeying orders. After some tinkering she
conceived the new tactics that made the
Cannas more useful.
Tired of the cockpit design, she created a
new and more comfortable seat. For that feat
she won't pay a bill in a restaurant thanks to
the grateful crews of other Cannas.

Finally, after a lots of trials, the help of

several merc contractors, better tactics, and

HESTIA

Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: HP-VD-45
Power Plant: 170 Vestal ICE
Armor: Starslab MSL11
Armament:
6 Halta Machine Guns
1 Blue Fin LRM-5 Launcher
1 Blue Streak SRM-6 Launcher
Manufacturer: Vestal Designs
Primary Factory: Barcelona
Communication System: VX-39 A
Targeting and Tracking System: Diptac-139
General Information.
It is ironic that Hestia, one of the most
peaceful goddesses from Greek mythology,
gave her name to such a dreadful and
macabre tank. The Hestia was built by Stefan
Amaris to bolster the numbers of his
conventional forces, but in the end, the tank
became the perpetrator of many atrocities. It
is now considered a tainted design.
Design Features.
The old Hipparch was not considered a good
tank, thanks to several manufacturing issues.
It filled gaps in desperate battles but the
casualties were high. A minor design bureau

came with a promising alternative. It was a

fast, armored and cheap hovercraft. The main
issue were the weapons, but the loadout of
machine guns and SRMs were enough to get
approval from Amaris himself.

of the same tonnage but, against Mechs,

suffered many of casualties. On Apollo, two
lances destroyed 10 Demon tanks without
casualties, but the next day were trashed by a
lance of Exterminators. After the war, all the
surviving units were scrapped.

Battle History.
Variants.
Vestal Designs, a tractor manufacturer, was
in charge of production. Star League
Intelligence didnt notice the drop in their
production of agricultural machinery. Instead
of tractors, something more sinister was built
in their thousands. Despite the usual
problems with the initial production runs, the
tank was successful. The Rim Worlds
Republic loved the weapons, despite the fact
that the tank was almost useless at long
range.
The Hestia was used as a terror weapon
against civilian populations during the war and
lots of cities bore the scars created by the
machine guns. The most serious estimates
put the civilian casualties caused only by the
Hestia amounted to at least 3 million people.

There was a variant with a flamer that was

very popular.
Notable Pilots.
Sergeant Ahmed El Hamza. One of the few
crew members of a Hestia that was not
executed after his capture, he was in charge
of the unit that destroyed the Demons. In a
brilliant maneuver he immobilized several of
them first and then concentrated fire in the
remaining Demons. He spared the life of the
surviving crews - against Rim Worlder normal
practice. This saved his life when he was
captured the next day.

In combat against the SLDF, things were not

as satisfactory. The tank was well designed,
but it lacked firepower. It could defeat vehicles

DRUDE

Mass: 50 tons
Chassis: LEO-752
Power Plant: 280 Hermes XL
Armor: Panzerslab 3 FF
Armament:
1 Intek 8 Large Laser
2 Intek 3 Medium Laser
2 Harpoon SRM-6 Launchers
Manufacturer: Leopard Armor
Primary Factory: Terra, Carver V
Communication System: Teledon 19
Targeting and Tracking System: Baltex K595
General information.
The Drude was one of the first victims of the
Succession Wars. This tank, designed for
CAAN units of the Star League, ended
becoming nothing more than a footnote in the
history books. None of the soldiers that fought
with the Drude in desperate battles, and
returned home thanks to its toughness, would
have approved an end like this.

Demon so popular. Then the CAAN units

appeared, asking for a specialized
amphibious vehicle.
The Drude was redesigned to have a
flotation hull and extra armor. An advanced
communication system was also installed that
allowed commanders to keep unit cohesion
during landings and other chaotic operations.
The weapons lacked the range of the Demon,
but the firepower was higher and the tank was
able to defeat heavy Mechs. The firepower
and the tough armor saved a lot of crews from
sure death.
Battle History.
Shortly after its deployment by CAAN units,
the Drude earned a well-deserved reputation
as reliable and tough. In its first battles, the
communication system saved entire units in
difficult landings. As a result, Oleg Kutran,
head of the design team, received several
awards from thankful CAAN Divisions.

Exodus destroyed the factory, ending the

production. Its advanced XL engine ensured
that the few remaining tanks remained
operative for only the next 50 years more.
Variants.
A support version was built, with LRMs
replacing one medium laser and the SRMs.
The lack of ammo marked this variant as
unsuccessful, and it was not built in large
numbers.
Notable Pilots.
General Pompeyo Snord. Direct descendant
of Jacob Zeilin, he was known as The

Design Features.

General Information.

After the introduction of the plasma rifle, a

modified turret was mounting one of the new
weapons for the final production run. The
SRMs have a deep ammo bay and they can
carry inferno ammunition, turning this tank
into a nightmarish threat in urban
environments.

People usually look at the Swift Wind Scout

Car, and ignore it for being too small. This
won't happen with its descendant, the Lorix.
An urban vehicle designed to deploy a
platoon of battle armors and then keep
fighting after that, its production was delayed
on purpose.
Ceres Metals of Indicass noticed the
incoming political changes and several
design issues with the turret delayed the
final production until the planet was
conquered by the Capellan Confederation.
Several medals were awarded to the design
team for that patriotic action.

Unexpectedly, the old Swift Wind chassis

was a good base for a heavier wheeled
vehicle. A boxy design hides a complex
structure, with the engine in one side in order
to allow a bigger, more comfortable infantry
bay. The turret was designed to carry a PPC alleged issues of unreliable PPCs were the
excuse given for the production delays. This
was far from truth and the turret mounted
weapon was problem free.

Battle History.
Deployed shortly after the beginning of the
Jihad, it first faced Federated Suns units and
was soon feared. At home in urban
environments, it won several key battles in the
road to New Syrtis.

Davion units exploited the poorly protected

wheeled motive system of the tank and
hunting parties began to focus on the wheels.
The number of casualties soared up but the
tank didn't lost its good reputation.
Variants.
The original variant, with one PPC and a
slightly different turret, was built in limited
numbers. It featured a second door for the
infantry bay, but it was too complex to use in
combat conditions and it was skipped in the
eventual production version.
Notable Pilots.
Sang-Wei Gabi Papp. An aggressive leader,
she destroyed 3 tanks in one battle and her
tank was one of the most feared sights in
Davion space. The Sang-Wei was on New
Syrtis leading a strike near the main Davion
headquarters when a infantry unit destroyed
the wheels of her tank in a well executed
ambush. A pre-plotted artillery barrage
destroyed the tank before she could manage
to escape. She was 19 years old.

Despite this, the tank has shortcomings.

Thorizer. Finally, effective WIGEs were

deployed in the Jihad and the stigma was
erased.

General Information.

The original Manta Ray was very unstable

but it has been modified. Now it has extra
control surfaces in order to ensure stable
flight and a powerful control system to assist
the pilot.

Design Features.
The Manta Ray has a big wing that makes it
resemble its namesake animal. The wing is
very efficient, and allows the WiGE to carry
more armor and weapons. It also made easier
fitting a bigger XL engine to make it even
faster.

Battle History.
Taking part in recon and fast fire support
missions, the Manta Ray has been very
succesful. A company of Manta Rays detected
and stopped a Blakist raid on New Avalon.
After that battle, the Davion Light Guards
lobbied to get an entire batallion of them. That
batallion, nicknamed the Red Shadows, has
become a nightmare to Blakist units.
Variants.

Michaelson Heavy Industries received a lot

of complaints regarding the lack of speed of
their Yellow Jacket. A new design was
needed, but the Jihad forced them to hurry to
find a good replacement. Old projects were
revised and a promising project from before
the 4th Succession War was restarted.
The Manta Ray, a flying wing design WiGE,
was good but had needed extra speed ; XL
engines were of course not available in 3010.
That was not a problem in the Jihad, and the
design was finally successfully concluded.
Previously, WiGEs had not been popular
military units thanks to the unsuccessful

The designers cut corners using the same

targeting system as the Yellow Jacket, given
its good reputation. The cockpit is a
technological marvel. The AFFS complained
over the price, akin to that of the Fulcrum, but
the complains of Yellow Jacket users were
louder, and the design entered production.
The weapons are suited for long range
engagements to ensure that the Manta Ray
comes back.

A cargo variant was built. With a 8 ton

infantry bay, it was also fitted with a targeting
computer and 4 AMS. There was another
variant equipped with with an XXL engine and
a heavy PPC, but it was too expensive to be
accepted.
Notable Pilots.

brothers are the crew of the infamous
Ray. Known for their unusual
maneuvers, they hold the height record of
an Ekranoplan at 45,000 feet.

General Information.
An innovative idea, the Dinju is one of the
heaviest WiGE units to have entered service.
Not so much time ago, WiGE units were
considered nothing more than oddballs unfit
for the battlefields. The idea of a fast WiGE,
with armor and heavy firepower made
analysts laugh. The deployment of the Dinju
silenced the laughter.
Design Features.
The Dinju had a convoluted development.
Thanks to deserters we know that it began as
a testbed for XXL engines. More efficient in
vehicles than mechs, XXL engines could be

useful to improve conventional units, the

mainstay of the Word of Blakes forces. The
engine is so huge that fitting it into the Dinju
was a problem and affected the design, that
ended with the mounting being asymmetric
and huge.
Despite the efficient flying wing configuration
twin tails had to be mounted, and a planned
turret dropped. Those design sacrifices freed
the tonnage required for heavy weapons. The
LBX/10 is very useful against tanks and the
long range firepower is great, like tanks of the
same weight.
Battle History.
Deployed in low numbers at the beginning of
the Jihad, the Dinju proved to be a very
effective unit, ideal for worlds with large
bodies of water.

turret, or its problems in urban areas.

Variants.
A variant with an XL engine was built to
lower production costs. Ironically, it works
almost as well as the original, and it replaced
it in the production lines. Another version has
been trialled mounting a Gauss Rifle for more
firepower. There are several minor variants,
some of them with turrets.
Notable Pilots.
Adept Keitaro Horiyohi. One of the raiders of
Thorin, that feat and the prestige of his family
helped him to be assigned as the leader of a
unit on New Earth. The DemiPrecentor
deployed his unit in an urban area, and
several of his pilots crashed with buildings.
After the rout, he was demoted to Adept, and
later disappeared.

A pair of Level IIs of Dinjus assaulted a

Lyran command post on Thorin. After
destroying the command post they
overwhelmed the Lyran rearguard. The initial
success boosted the reputation of the Dinju,
and more production runs followed.
Unfortunately, poor commanders caused it to
show several flaws, such as the lack of a

General Information.
The first tracked vehicle with jump capability
broke several barriers and has opened new
paths in combat vehicle design. Jump
capability already existed in other vehicles,
like the infamous Kanga. The Kanga featured
a complex system to control jumps and lacked
good weapons. The Word of Blake had some
Kangas that had survived as relics - some of
them only able to move by jumping. That
those damaged Kanga were able to survive
for so long was a detail that inspired the
designers of the Pitn. Jump capability would
bring immobilized units a chance to move and
avoid destruction.

Design Features.
The jump jet control system was difficult to
implement, but the problems were solved by
limiting the jump capability and adding an
improved suspension system. Fitted with
tracks and shock dampers redesigned to
absorb the impact, the tank could jump
without problems.
The air intakes of the jump jets have a
secondary intake that make jumping possible
with the turret rotated. The biggest issue is
the crews comfort. Despite all the added
protection, crews often end with minor injuries
after several jumps. The lack of complaints is
not surprising because jumping is considered
a desperate defensive maneuver. Beyond its
jump capacity, the Pitn is a conventional tank
like the Rommel, but heavier, with more armor
and weapons.
Battle History.
The Pitn has been one of the biggest
surprises of the decade. There are a lot of
jokes about mechwarriors who believe they
have immobilized the tank and, instead of
getting an easy kill, are then destroyed by a
jumping tank. Jump capability has allowed the

Pitn to endure more damage than similar

tanks and, even better, has given it more
flexibility.
In Achermars deep gorges a battalion
surprised Davion units. They took a detour
though rugged terrain and attacked the
Mechs from the rear. The Mech battalion was
surrounded, and crushed at close range.
Variants.
A variant exists with an XXL Engine and more
weapons. Very expensive and complex, it was
built in limited numbers. This variant is the
base for the heavier Crtalo.
Notable Pilots.
Precentor Johanna Keegan. Commanding
the battalion, she was behind the ambush in
Achermar. After her tank lost a track she
began to jump madly and ended crushing a
Fireball. After three weeks in a hospital, she
was sent to Earth and promoted.

SPRINTER

Mass: 85 tons
Chassis: Arb-85 STD
Power Plant: VOX 340 XL
Armor: ArcShield FF-I
Armament:
1 Chemjet Autocannon 20
1 Blaze Fire System Large Laser
1 Arb Improved LRM-20 Laucher
1 Volkers Machine Gun
Manufacturer: Arb Electronics
Primary Factory: Robinson, Sirius
Communication System: Arb-Z4
Targeting and Tracking System: Arb-A4
General Information.
The Sprinter is a tank that has fallen into
oblivion despite being the first tank fitted with
a functional Artemis IV system. Arb
Electronics tried to enter military industry with
its innovative fire control system, and an
alliance with Hall Steel Forge. However, the
initial project failed and Hall Steel Forge
advanced with its own design.
The legal wrangling lasted for years and
nearly ruined Arb Electronics, until House
Davion intervened to save the project. After
even more trials, Sprinter production began in
Robinson.

Design Features.
Designed around the Artemis IV fire-support
system, the tank should have been a missile
boat, but fate intervened and the design was
altered to differentiate it from the Wellington
built by Hall Steel Forge. To please House
Davion, a large autocannon and a large laser
were fitted. The original LRM racks couldnt
be installed, so Arb Electronics chose the
biggest possible launcher to compensate.
The original specifications of the tank were
surpassed thanks to those issues. An XL
engine had to be installed in order to keep the
designed levels of speed and armor. Despite
the Sprinters astronomical price tag, the
armor, speed and firepower were so good that
the tank, on paper, was one of the best of that
time.
Battle History.
The first production run, built in Robinson,
suffered minor problems that were solved a
few years later. Despite those issues, it was a
success. Arb Electronics, saved from ruin,
built a second factory in Sirius in 2740. Only
517 tanks were built there before the Amaris
Coup. The tank served with distinction on

both sides in the Amaris Civil War, and

against Kurita in the First Succession War.
Unfortunately, both factories were destroyed
and the Sprinter, expensive and fragile,
disappeared from the battlefields during the
Second Succession war.
Variants.
There were no variants of the Sprinter but,
surprisingly, it has been spotted again in the
Jihad. Rumors abound of the old Sirius
factory being rebuilt, but there is no hard
evidence. The new variant supposedly
features a lighter autocannon, and a
supercharger.
Notable Pilots.
Colonel April Schlieffel. The Colonel was in
charge of a tank regiment from the Avalon
Hussars, named Hell on Wheels. A tactical
genius, she delayed 3 Kuritan regiments on
Robinson for three months before being killed
in the midst of a nuclear strike.

General Information.
The return to the Inner Sphere has been full
of transitions and strife for Clan Hell's Horses.
Isolated from the homeworlds, they had the
rare opportunity of rebuilding their Touman
from scratch. They realized that older Clan
tank designs were becoming obsolete, and
that more powerful tanks could be built.
A plethora of new projects began shortly
after their arrival in the Inner Sphere. Finally,
they could mate the armored motive system
with a new assault tank chassis. From this,
the Bandua was born. It was a great day for
tank crews.

Design Features.
Finally, the armored motive system became
reliable enough to be fitted on a tank, and the
designers were eager to test it. The only
problems with the system were the skirts,
somewhat prone to minor damage. Fitting the
armored motive system raised the weight of
the hull.
The turret was lighter than the hull but a
small redesign solved the issue and the turret
is problem free. However, those changes left
a lot of free weight and the designers opted
for adding more armor. More armor than an
Atlas, actually. CASE II and and an ECM suite
made the tank even more resilient. The
weapon load is lighter than other assault
tanks, but nobody argued against a PPC with
a targeting computer, or the huge number of
missiles the Bandua carries.
Finally, the turret has popup panels that
create a bigger sensor profile. Those panels
mislead targeting systems and, in theory,
incoming enemy fire may end destroying one
of the panels instead of damaging the tank.
Battle History.

One Bandua, the prototype, began battle

testing sooner than expected. A surprise
pirate raid forced its deployment against a
lance of Mechs. The battle was much more
one-sided than expected, with all the Mechs
destroyed in less than five minutes.
After that huge success, the Clan clamored
for more, and production began shortly after.
The Bandua fought in limited numbers in the
Jihad. Clan Wolf in Exile made a deal with
Clan Hell's Horses for the design, and also
produces them.
Variants.
There is one variant, with fewer weapons
and 32 tons of hardened armor.
Notable Pilots.
Star Colonel Luka Lassenerra. The Star
Colonel is a ristar of the Clan after the
infamous battle against the pirate lance. His
tank, nicknamed The Brick, has saved his
crew time after time. It took part in thethe
Jihad and helped to conquer several well
defended targets, becoming a media darling
in the Inner Sphere.

CRTALO

Mass: 100 tons

Chassis: FT-100 Series
Power Plant: 300 Vlar XL
Armor: Durallex Heavy Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
1 Luballin LB 10-X Autocannon
1 Donal PPC
1 Poland Gauss Rifle
3 Harverster LRM-5 Launchers
Manufacturer: Milleniun Industries
Primary Factory: Terra
Communication System: Instacomm 14-F
Targeting and Tracking System: TT-Yellow4
General Information.
The Crtalo appeared shortly after the debut
of the Pitn debut. Battlefields were not
prepared for a 100 ton tank loaded to the
teeth with guns, and with with jump capability.
It is unknown if the Crtalo and the Pitn
tanks are the forerunners of a new generation
of jumping tanks. The Alliance is horrified
thinking about facing yet another jumping
tank.
Design Features.
The Crtalo is an evolution from the Pitn,
but heavier and with more armor and guns.

The increase of weight required a stronger

suspension and the track system is more
complex, even allowing the tracks to unplug
from the transmission when the tank collides
with the ground.
The additional weight changed the centre of
gravity of the tank; accordingly, the chassis
was modified. As a consequence, the engine
was center-mounted and the crew join the
weapons and the cooling system in the turret.
After the redesign, the turret has become the
biggest ever mounted on a tank. The size
makes it impossible for the tank to jump
without the turret properly aligned with the
chassis, unlike the Pitn. There are plenty of
weapons to cover different duties, with a
LBX/10 to deal with vehicles and a Gauss
Rifle, a PPC and LRMs to deal with Mechs.
Battle History.
The Crtalo has fought in battles all over the
Blake Protectorate and in several raids
against House Liao. A lance of Crtalos held
up two mech companies on Galatea, making
possible an orderly withdrawal by other Militia
units. During the battle of Dieron, another
lance achieved a great victory after suprising

Alliance forces by jumping over the walls of a

military.
Variants.
An XXL engine prototype was trialled, but it
was not successful. The engine extended into
the turret, which became too cramped and
uncomfortable for the crew. The extra
weapons that could be carried were not
enough to justify the astronomical price
tag,and the crew issues. The variant never
entered full production.
Notable Pilots.
Precentor Marie Keegan. Sister of the
infamous Johanna Keegan, she was the lead
test pilot for the Crtalo program. After the
successful trials, she was promoted and led
the first Crtalo mission shortly afterwards..
Her unit shone on Galatea until the final battle
there. In that battle, Keegan lost her weapons
and ended her days jumping her tank into a
Warhammer.

CBD-1R CARIBDIS

Mass: 35 tons
Chassis: Benztrov 50 Endo Steel
Power Plant: 280 VOX XL
Armor: Riesel Ferro
Armament:
2 Krupp Large Lasers
Manufacturer: Newhart Industries
Primary Factory: New Earth
Communication System: Garret T10B
Targeting and Tracking System: Dynatec 990
General Information.
One of the biggest deficiencies of Stefan
Amaris forces was in light mechs. The new
Jackrabbit, one of the biggest boondoggles of
the Star League, proved not to be the answer.
A good light mech was desperately needed,
and every available option was explored. The
Caribdis was born from a project at the
Sandhurst Academy that tried to improve the
Hussar. The Caribdis, christened by Stefan
Amaris himself, was built after a short
development cycle.
Design Features.
The Hussar had speed and a large laser in
its favour, but it lacked armor. Despite being

strangely popular, it was also near

obsolescence thanks to newer units like the
Talon and the Spector. A heavier chasis was
the answer. Able to carry a lighter engine, and
with MASC added for short speed bursts, the
Caribdis was almost as fast as the Hussar,
but with more armor and guns. Amaris pilots
loved the MASC and that guaranteed the
approval of the design.
One of the most innovative features was the
large laser housing, that gave it a larger field
of fire, almost like a turret. Former Hussar
also pilots loved the armor, the maximum
posible for that chassis.
Battle History.
The Caribdis had a somewhat convoluted
deployment. Some Mechwarriors didn't like it
because of the bad reputation of its parent
design, the Hussar. After some key victories,
and the rise of famous pilots like Charging
Jack, the mech began to become accepted.
One of the factories producing the Caribdis
experienced sabotage. The MASC fitted there
was tuned in order to fail on the twentieth use.
Caribdis losses rose, until the sabotage was
discovered. That factory was punished

severely and a mass grave at the main gate

reminded the workers of the price of treason.
Variants.
Two variants are known. The first mounted
ER Large Lasers instead of the original
lasers. The second, experimental and built
only in small numbers, had twin turrets for the
large lasers.
Notable Pilots.
Captain Jack Novella. Charging Jack was
one of the most famous mechwarriors from
the RWR thanks to his obssesive tendency to
charge with his mech in every combat. He
started one successful charge half a kilometer
away from the target, a Hunchback, that
ended with both legs destroyed. Charging
Jack was one of the last victims of the
tampering with the MASC system.
After his death, a deep study of the failed
Caribdis wreckage uncovered the nature of
the sabotage.

RPB-MTN-01 MINUTEMAN

Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Dennenbach-Mitchell ES
Power Plant: 320 VRE XL
Armor: Republic Ferro RT1
Armament:
11 Blankenburg Small Lasers
2 Blankenburg Medium Lasers
1 Blankenburg Medium Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Republic/Mitchell Vehicles
Primary Factory: Dieron
Communication System: RPND-TTA
Targeting and Tracking System: Werner M4
General Information.
One of the most infamous units originating in
the Amaris Civil War, the Minuteman was born
after a clever plot fooled the Star League.
Republic., a contractor of Mitchell Vehicles,
was subverted by Amaris cronies.
They prepared an advanced, but very
expensive, prototype with endo-steel, ferrofibrous armor, and a XL engine. The prototype
was not offered to the SLDF and was widely
unknown. The project looked like a major
mistake until a strange request for Sirius
Militia arrived, asking for 2000 units. A plant
was built and the mech began production.
After APOTHEOSIS it was discovered that the

Militia didn't get the mechs and they ended in

RWR units. People from the Republic became
the new masters of Dieron after a wave of
repression, and the mech was built in huge
numbers.
Design Features.
The Minuteman was renowned for its
combination of speed and firepower. Instead
of having a few heavy weapons, a big array of
smaller weapons was chosen. The eleven
small lasers lacked range, but it was expected
that speed would solve that issue.
The chassis featured a big panel in the right
torso that carried the sensors and several
heat sinks, giving the mech an unusual
profile. Finally, the Minutemans weapons
were very easy to repair and replace, thanks
to well designed housings. The turning speed
of the torso was limited but the biggest
problem was the incredible cost of each unit.
Battle History.

unstoppable in harassing missions and it was

also a great guerrilla fighter,. The SLDF made
a big effort to destroy all of them, one by one.
After the Exodus, Republic was absorbed by
Mitchell but the factory only lasted five years
before being destroyed. The Minuteman, with
a dangerous mission profile, disappeared a
few years later. From time to time one is
discovered, sometimes with the deceased
pilot still inside. They are sought after units for
their great performance.
Variants.
No variants of the Minuteman were built.
Notable Pilots.
Sergeant Mark Gustaffson. Left behind
enemy lines when Lone Star was liberated, he
did not surrender. Gustaffson spent 2 years
hunting lone units until he was found out of
his Mech in a cave. The cave was destroyed
and he was buried alive. Five years later they
found his body next to his mech.

Despite not being the usual low tech

periphery unit, and lacking flamers, i ,became
one of the favourite mech of RWR
MechWarriors. The Minuteman was almost

4 Blue Streak SRM-6 Launchers
1 Hellward Flamer
Manufacturer: Krauss-Liemann Inc.
Primary Factory: Wotan
Communication System: Vex Triconn Beta
Targeting and Tracking System: Dilon LSA4
General Information.
Stefan Amaris was behind one of the biggest
rearmament programs ever carried out. It
was largely successful, but there were several
programs that went wrong, like the Warcore.
A failed replacement of the Whitworth WTH0, the Warcore had a lot of shortcomings, and
it became clear soon that a better
replacement was needed. The Ifasteio
(volcano in Greek) was designed to fill that
gap.
Design Features.
The Ifasteio was originally designed as a
light mech, an improved version of the

Commando. The design team behind the

Medusa offered a 35 ton Mech with more
SRMs. The first prototype was nearing
completion when Amaris in person asked for a
heavier version.

single Ifasteio, and the few that survived the

war were destroyed before the Exodus, in a
failed attempt to erase the bloody mark the
Mech had left.
Variants.

This was easier said than done, but a few

months later, a 45 ton mech rolled out of the
factory. The mech had a XL engine and 4
SRM launchers, turning it into a very
dangerous unit. The increase of weight
allowed the mech to carry more armor and a
flamer. Despite the success, the Mechs legs
suffered several problems, caused by the
increase of weight, but those issues were
considered to be minor.
Battle History.
A demon of fire was unleashed on the Terran
Hegemony when the Amaris Civil War began.
Built in large numbers, the nimble Ifastieo
worked in pairs, one coating the victim in
inferno gel and the other crushing the
shutdown mech with missiles until it was
destroyed. The collateral damage and civilian
deaths were just icing on the cake for the
cruel pilots.

There is one variant, with a medium laser

instead of the flamer. The lighter variant was
also built in limited numbers.
Notable Pilots.
Captain Silvia Spencer. The Fire Devil of
New Earth, she was one of the most sadistic
pilots of that war. She took part in the
slaughter of unarmed civilians with her own
inferno ammo.
Finally, members of the 146th Royal
Battlemech Division decided to solve the
matter personally. A full company made a
deep intrusion behind enemy lines and killed
her. Despite acting against orders, they were
decorated for stopping her.

SLDF units worked hard to destroy every

Armament:
4 Type 2 Extended Range Medium Lasers
2 Type 6 Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Barcella Alpha
Primary Factory: Barcella
Communication System: Vision 100
Targeting and Tracking System: TC-Spirit-1
General Information.
A stained and obscure mech, the Spirit
Vision embodies one of the most
embarrassing incidents ever happened to
Clan Nova Cat. It was a promising design, it
featured advanced technologies and it could
have been a powerful mainstay for the Clan.
However, a design linked with Stefan Amaris
was too much to endure for such a
superstitious Clan and it was discarded.
Design Features.
Commissioned in 2869, the design phase
was exceptionally short, much to the delight of
the Khans. Featuring an advanced targeting

computer and a big array of energy weapons,

it was a great raider and it would be free from
logistic constraints.
The mech worked seamlessly and its
structure was durable. The engineering team,
led by a tech named Waldorf, achieved this in
less than one year, surprising everybody.
Battle History.
The first two years after the first trial were
successful and the mech was built in great
numbers. Then it was discovered that the
targeting computer was a Clan Moongose
design and it was stolen from a military
complex when that Clan was absorbed. That
was unclanlike and the Nova Cats were
embarrassed by their bitter enemies, the
Smoke Jaguars.
But the last nail in the coffin was the
discovery of its origins. The Nimrod was a
mostly unknown mech, built by Stefan Amaris
to fight the SLDF. The SLDF disabled the
factory but they got the data. In the chaos of
the Exodus, the data was lost until the Nova
Cat engineering team found them.

mech to Clan specs and added the stolen

targeting computer. The Clan Khans were
incensed and the engineering team was
severely punished.
The spiritual mechwarriors refused to use a
tainted mech and it ended in Solahma units.
50 years later, the last remaining mech was
destroyed and nobody in the Clan mourned
that loss.
Variants.
There were no variants of this mech.
Notable Pilots.
Star Captain Heinrich Lossey. The Star
Captain loved ancient history and he was
recognized as the most important authority
regarding the RWR army.
After receiving one Spirit Vision, he crossed
data from battle records and discovered the
true origins of the mech. His discovery
offended other mechwarriors and he faced
several trials of grievance. A great fighter, he
won seven before the truth was
acknowledged.

They changed the weapons, adapted the

th

The 28 Century was not good for Bergan

Industries. Their latest design, the Champion,
was unpopular. They tried to build a new,
lighter and better, mech. The Mosquito was a
good unit but it had to compete against more
famous designs like the Wolverine, Griffin and
Shadow Hawk.
Almost bankrupt, Bergan accepted a shady
contract to build the Mosquito for private
security units. After 2766 they discovered that
they had made a deal with the Devil because
Stefan Amaris was behind that shady

contract, dooming Bergan Industries.

displays of loyalty. The end of the war was

bitter for the design.

Design Features.
The Mosquito was a missile based mech,
faster than other medium mechs. Use of
endo-steel freed enough weight to add a ER
Large Laser. The jump jets were also a
welcome addition compared to the Champion.
Finally, a MASC system allowed the Mosquito
to outrun many other mechs. Nobody balked
at the additional medium lasers.
The flamer was very useful against infantry,
and the MechWarriors from the RWR loved it.
The sensor and targeting systems were
based on those found on the Locust, but they
were improved to handle the extra weapons.
They were so good that the missiles were
almost as precise as missiles equipped with
Artemis IV.
Battle History.
A beloved unit, the Mosquito was one of
brightest stars of Amaris army. With MASC,
flamers and with inferno ammunition, it had
everything that an Amaris MechWarrior
wanted in a swift package. It was a widely
sought after unit, often given as a reward for

The factory was razed and the senior

management of Bergan ended in a mass
grave, as a warning of the dangers of
cooperating with the enemy. The Mosquito
survived until the second Succession War but
it could never erase the stain of being part of
Amaris army.
Variants.
A variant, built in large numbers, sacrificed
some jump jets in order to get more armor.
There are reports of an improved variant,
named Typhoon but there is no data
available.
Notable Pilots.
Lieutenant Herbert Daioh. A very popular
mechwarrior, he had an unnatural dexterity
and there are recordings showing his mech
doing impossible maneuvers, like a full loopthe-loop with jump jets executed right in front
of Stefan Amaris himself. He was captured on
Terra, court martialed and executed for war
crimes.

Despite this profile of mission, an autocannon

and short range missiles were added along
with energy weapons. The extra firepower
and the improved antiaircraft capability that
those weapons brought were enough to
silence the concerns regarding ammunition
dependency.
It was a very advanced mech, built with
improved armor and internal structure, and
featured a complex communication system.
The cockpit was very comfortable and the
LBX10 enjoyed an unusually wide arc of fire,
almost like a turret-mounted weapon.

General Information.
Battle History.
The disclosure of New Dallas Memory Core
shed some light on a largely unknown mech.
The Temujin was GMs candidate for the
design contest won by the Crab. That defeat,
despite the Temujin being clearly better than
the Crab, was a surprise to the analysts, but
not to the historians. The mech was so good
that it ended in the most elite SLDF units,
covered behind a wall of red tape.
Design Features.
The Temujin was designed as a mech able
to operate independently behind enemy lines.

Sadly, there is little information regarding the

Temujin. We have been able to discover,
thanks to several sources that it was a
popular unit among MechWarriors for its
roomy cockpit, and the Mech was known as
the Temujin Hotel.
We also know that one batallion was on
Earth at the Amaris Coup and managed to
hide for a few years. There are several
recordings of battles on New Earth and
Dieron where they appear and, finally, the
diaries of Joseph Trav. None of the

surviving units joined Comstar after the

Exodus and there are no traces of the Mech
in the chaos of the Succession Wars.
Variants.
Two variants were discovered in the Memory
Core. The first one only had energy weapons
and removed the ferro-fibrous armor for the
installation of extra heat sinks. The second
swapped the PPC for an ER PPC.
Notable Pilots.
Colonel Joseph Trav. Colonel Trav,
expert archivist and historian, is one of the
most reliable sources of information about the
Temujin and the battle for Dieron.
He wrote a detailed account of the
campaign. After 10 years of tough battles the
Colonel retired and published his memoirs
Temujin Hotel Diaries, the main source of
information for a long time. His tales of
impossible shots with the autocannon were
ignored until the autocannons extended arc
of fire was discovered,

FMM-3R FLAMMENWERFER/ ACHERON

Mass: 65 tons
Chassis: Stanwhich-Defiant V with Endo Steel
Power Plant: 325 Hermes XL
Armor: Durallex Light Ferro
Armament:
3 Defiance NovaShot Plasma Rifles
Manufacturer: Defiance Industries
Primary Factory: Kwangjong-ni
Communication System: Neil 800 G
Targeting and Tracking System: RCAInstrack-21

appears that it was designed to mimic the

Flashman, but there is no solid evidence.

General Information.

The Flammenwerfer was initially fielded as a

direct fire support mech, like the old
Awesome. It was a reliable unit despite
having shallow ammunition bins. After a few
battles, several officers suggested that it
would be better used in a more aggresive
way, chasing down units with heat issues.

Defiance Industries suffered heavily during

the Jihad. The loss of Hesperus II was a big
hit that almost doomed the company.
However, they discovered a forgotten factory
and, after restoring it, Defiance Industries
could strike back at the World of Blake. The
new Flammenwerfer produced there was
based on an older design, the Acheron. Oddly
enough, there is little information about the
Factory involved, suggesting that it might
produce more designs than just the old
Acheron.
Design Features.
Little is known about the old Acheron. It

The engineering team chose the Mech as a

testbed for the brand new Plasma Rifles.
Fast, and with advanced components, this
new design was almost problem free, and it
proved a testament to Defiance Industries
resolve to defeat the World of Blake.
Battle History.

Mainly used by the Arcturan Guards, it has

fought in battles along all the Lyran Alliance,
from Tharkad to Terra. When MechWarriors
realized the potential of the new plasma rifles,
its reputation became even better and the
Flammenwerfer achieved great victories.

Oddly enough, Tokyo was set ablaze again.

Nearly 300 years before Tokyo suffered the
same fate on a larger scale and, maybe, the
Acheron was responsible.
Variants.
A temporary lack of plasma rifles led to a
variant that used PPCs. There's another
version equipped with a MASC for extra
speed.
Notable Pilots.
Kommandant Gerhart Meier. In charge of a
th
disciplinary batallion from the 23 Arcturan
Guards, he lead the successful strike that
conquered Tokyo. He destroyed fifteen
enemy mechs on that battle and has become
the latest Lyran hero. It seems that he will be
promoted soon.

The battle of Tokyo was won thanks to its

speed, that surprised the Word Militia and the
expected carnage became a speedy victory.

the old Striker.

The old Striker has returned from oblivion.

Forgotten in the last Brian Cache available,
the old mechs traveled back to the Inner
Sphere. Several engineers studied the design
and they discovered that a rebuild could be
done with stockpiled components.

A pirate raid was thwarted in New Oslo but

the damage to civilian property was so high
that the design has been forbidden to use in
cities. Pirates consider the mech as their
bane.
Variants.

The new Lavi is faster and lighter and the

weapons are different. Two brand-new plasma
cannons are placed in the arms. With those
cannons and 20 SRMs, the Lavi is a
nightmare for tanks, infantry and mechs prone
to overheat.

General Information.
The Lavi (young lion in Hebrew) is the result
of Clan Hells Horses dire need of new
mechs. When the Clan returned to the Inner
Sphere, they were surrounded by enemies
and only brute force saved the Clan.
Several new enemies had more pressing
issues to deal and that helped the Hells
Horses. However, they knew that the truce
wont last and they had to rearm fast. The
Lavi is one of the first complete projects and
it has been a notable feat.

Not as powerful as other mechs, the

mechwarriors have been instructed to bathe
the target with plasma and infernos before
going for the kill. The refitting of the mech was
difficult and the engine was hard to fit inside
and it ended placed in an unusual way.
Battle History.
Soon after the new Lavis began to roll out of
the factory, they were sent to every cluster.
The new components were sound and
technicians are grateful for that. The
mechwarriors love it despite being as ugly as

Built in two factories, each one builds a

different version. The Lavi 2 is better than the
original and more durable. Unsurprisingly,
clan mechwarriors try to avoid the first one.
There are several Striker IIC as the
remaining Strikers were slightly modified with
clan spec weapons.
Notable Pilots.
Norman Baker. The last legionnaire of Von
Strangs World, it is the last line of defense of
the Clan in that planet. A captured mercenary,
he has defeated 7 pirate raids alone. After
saying the Clan ends where my weapons
cant reach he has become an idol for other
mechwarriors for his determination and
bravery.

OHKA-1K OOKAMI

Mass: 65 tons

Armor: Ookami FerroFibrous
Armament:
2 Fuso Medium Lasers
1 Ise Autocannon 20
1 Kongo SRM-6 Launcher
1 Kirishima PPC
1 Mikasa Small Laser
Manufacturer: Luthien Armor Works
Primary Factory: Luthien
Communication System: Akagi-41
Targeting and Tracking System: Aoba-51
General Information.
Only a few analysts from this era understand
the controversy behind the infamous SLDF
contest that led to the selection of the Griffin
over the Dragon. New files coming from the
Clans explained that decision and revealed a
formerly unknown mech, the Ookami.
Design Features.
Based on previous designs, the Ookami was
way more complex and advanced, becoming
the first Kuritan-made Mech with an extralight fusion engine. Faster than most mechs of

that time, it used the tonnage made available

from the engine to carry a heavy weapons
load.
The Ookami was a short range brawler
Mech, designed to overwhelm slower mechs.
The armor could be customized, and, in
several cases the Mech came from the
factory sporting samurai motifs. The biggest
issue with the design was its high cost,
caused by the very expensive engine.
Battle History.
The Ookami (Lone Wolf) was involved in the
First Hidden War against the SLDF. Used by
elite pilots, the Mech won a lot of duels until
the Gunslinger program was established.
A few years later, the SLDF put out a request
for a new low-end heavy Mech design.
Luthien Armor Works brought to the SLDF
contest a simplified version of the Ookami,
without the expensive engine and different
weapons. This new design, the Dragon,
looked promising and many believed that it
would win the contest until disaster struck. At
a party, a drunken Kuritan engineer bragged
about the glorious origins of the Dragon right
in front of several SLDF officers that served

during the First Hidden War. The Dragon was

abruptly dropped from the contest. House
Kurita was offended, and the Dragon was
produced only for the DCMS.
Only a few Ookami served in the First
Succession War and the design disappeared
before 2830.
Variants.
There were no variants, but the cosmetic
changes created different profiles in every
mech built.
Notable Pilots.
Narimasa Yori. This ronin, a former Tai-Sa
from the Second Sword of Light, was
involved in 20 duels. Known as the Beast,
he defeated several gunslingers, including
Lieutenant Claine Barclay.
The SLDF made a great effort to discover
where his next attack would be and sent their
best gunslinger to stop him. Finally, Narisama
faced The Saint in a dramatic duel. After half
an hour of titanic struggle, the ronin was
defeated and committed seppuku in his
cockpit.

Mass: 80 tons

Laser
1 Defiance B3M Medium Laser
Manufacturer: Mountain Wolf Battlemechs
Primary Factory: Vendrell
Communication System: TarHes KR-MS2
Targeting and Tracking System: RCA
Instatrack MM1A
General Information.

Industries and Mountain Wolf Battlemechs,

the Maus is a powerful , if hardly innovative,
assault Mech.
Design Features.
A cursory look at the arms of the Maus is
enough to highlight its origins. The chassis of
the Sunder was modified and simplified to
house more weapons and heat sinks. At the
begining, the engineers aimed to design
something like the old Zeus, but they ended
up working towards a more durable Mech.
The joint effort was not problem free, with
Tarhes leaving the project. After some arm
twisting, they returned to design only
electronic components.

The loss of Hesperus and Tarkhad was a

devastating blow to the Lyran Alliance. After
losing their main factories, the Lyrans sought
any other way to build more mechs.
Produciton lines for one of their most iconic
mechs, the Zeus, were lost and Zeuses
began to appear in Blakist ranks. A
replacement was needed. The Maus was that
replacement.

The weapons are akin to those found in the

Awesome and Flashman, with a huge array of
large lasers. Built to be easy to maintain, the
only advanced equipment found in the mech
is the compact gyro and the new light PPCs.
Nobody has complained about that design
feature.

The result of a joint effort from Defiance

Industries, Coventry Metal Works, Tarhes

The Maus has been built in low numbers

after the opening of thje new Vendrell factory.

Battle History.

The first units built there fought against the

Word of Blake on Tarkhad, where they proved
very effective. The biggest production issue is
dueto the Mech using parts built on seven
different planets; there are several
bottlenecks that made faster production
impossible. The Maus, with its low numbers,
has failed to replace the Zeus as the
preferred mech of the Lyran Alliance.
Variants.
The original design was simpler and only
had large lasers. Mountain Wolf Battlemechs
and Tarhes Industries wanted to build it, but
Coventry Metal Works lobbied to build the
more advanced, definitive versin. The
argument angered Tarhes and there have
been a lot of problems with the targeting
systems.
Notable Pilots.
Kommandant Hans Hohmann. A master of
combined arms, he is able to control an entire
batallion from his cockpit. He has headcapped
seven mech since 3067 and he is very
popular amongst his troops. An old friend of
Nondi Steiner, it is unlikely that he will
advance more in his military career.

KRT-3E PERSHING

Mass: 80 tons
Chassis: BJ 300
Power Plant: VOX 240 Light
Armor:Strasbourg Armaments Type 6
Armament:
2 Poland Gauss Rifles
1 Bluestorm Heavy PPC
Manufacturer: Skobel Mechworks
Primary Factory: Terra
Communication System: Dalban Comline III
Targeting and Tracking System: Scope 100
General Information.
The Pershing is one of the firsts pocket
assault Mechs of the Jihad. In 3065, Word of
Blake lacked powerful assault Mechs in its
inventory. Its existing designs either were too
old or didnt have enough concentrated
firepower.
Looking for something like the Devastator,
they tried to solve the problem, but the
Legacy was not enough. Finally, a new design
emerged. The Pershing is a compromise
between the need for firepower and use of an
80-ton chassis.
Design Features.

The design phase was convoluted. Initial

estimates concluded that a Mech way more
powerful than the Awesome could be made,
but the structure would be very complex and
prone to issues.
The ban on using a XL engine turned the
initial trials into a nightmare. Several
prototypes were built with different armor
layout and weapons. After a lot of tests, the
initial idea of adding jump jets was discarded.
Finally, a Heavy PPC installed in the torso
caused sensor glitches that were only solved
by moving the sensor array to a different
location.
Battle History.

Variants.
The original production run lacked C3i and
had more firepower. There is also a
Thunderbolt-based variant that has been
produced.
Notable Pilots.
Precentor Jaipur Mart. Charged with the
defense of Dieron, his Pershing was the last
to fall. An expert violinist, he earned the
gratitude of the local population saving
several Philarmonics from the dreaded
internment camps. His fallen Mech was
found, but there were no corpse and he is
listed as missing in action.

The Pershing is a controversial design.

Analysts concluded that it has somewhat
more firepower than the Awesome 9Q, in
exchange for being more fragile, expensive
and ammo dependant.
MechWarriors ignore the controversy
because they love a Mech with so much
firepower. The Pershing has fought on New
Avalon with distinction, but it is more
commonly found in garrisons in the Blake
Protectorate.

PL-R1-S POLARIS

Mass: 90 tons
Chassis: Stamwhich Magnus
Power Plant: Magna 270
Armor: PanzerSlab Type 10
Armament:
2 Brown ACI LB 10-X Autocannon
1 Thunderstroke Series 1 Gauss Rifle
2 Firefly Type 1 Medium Lasers
1 Round Head Flamer
Manufacturer: Shark Composites Inc.
Primary Factory: Amaris Site R-05
Communication System: Sanct Micro S1
Targeting and Tracking System: Strang Long
Death 1C
General Information.
Stefan Amaris ego created the Polaris. His
armies lacked assault Mechs and their anti
air defense was inadequate. The Rampage
was a good Mech, but a more powerful mech
was needed to face more advanced mechs.
The Polaris was designed and built secretly,
and was based off information stolen from
General Motors.
The development stage was fast and without
incident, and a bright future awaited the
Mech. That success prompted the design of
an improved version, able to destroy single-

handed an entire company of mechs. This is

how the project that created the Amaris Folly
began.
Design Features.
General Motors did a good work with the
Nightstar. Unfortunately for the Star League,
that work helped to design the Polaris. The
chassis was modified and improved. The
armor was improved to maximize survivability.
The weapons were changed, too.
Amaris forces prefered combined arms
tactics and the LBX/10 was chosen as the
primary weapons. A Gauss Rifle added extra
firepower. Finally, a flamer was added to
please the Amaris forces. The Mech looked
terryfing when the flamer was used.
Battle History.
The Polaris was the ride of choice of the
more skilled and fanatical RWR
MechWarriors. Those experten fought the
SLDF with abandon and the Polaris achieved
an almost mythical reputation amongst SLDF
mechwarriors.

captured should be destroyed and the

captured pilots should be court martialed for
war crimes. Unsurprisingly, only a few
survived the war. Analysts were astonished
when newer Polaris were seen in Word of
Blake hands. It seems that the Word of Blake
found the forgotten factory. A great threat
even in the Jihad, the clans were obsessed
with destroying every Polaris they found.
Variants.
The Polaris was used as a testbed for new
weapon configurations, including one with 3
gauss rifles and twin large lasers. The Jihad
ncluded a variant with C3i.
Notable Pilots.
Major Hanso Ogre Totenkopf. Commander
nd
of the 2 Amaris Dragoons, he was a
notorious sadist and cruel leader. Ardent
follower of the ancient Marshal Von Manstein,
he fought for years against the SLDF; he also
burnt Thorin's main library. He was finally
hunted down and killed by the White Witches,
a group of headhunters that became
mercenaries after the War.

heavy mech . Extremely expensive, it is one

of the best units Inner Sphere money can buy.

General Information.

Energy based, it can deal a huge amount of

damage in one single salvo. However, like
other clan assault Mechs the Akulas cooling
system would be overtaxed,. Despite that
shortcoming, the Akula has more heat sinks
that other Mechs, giving the pilot a slight
advantage. Another frightening addition is a
targeting computer.

Design Features.
The Akula is loosely based on the Marauder
and the King Crab and its detractors say that
it is just a more expensive development of the
ancient Supernova. Clan Diamond Shark
ignored the complaints and has leaked tales
of horror coming from the mechwarriors that
have faced it.

Battle History.
The Akulas huge price tag has precluded
extensive deployment. Despite that, it has
shone in several combats, such as a Trial of
Refusal against Clan Nova Cat.
In that trial, a star of Akulas defeated an
entire trinary. The Akula has joined Davion
and Kurita armies and it works well alongside
Templars and Akumas.
Variants.

Clan Diamond Shark returned to the Inner

Sphere in an unusual way, but what it is
unusual for other Clans is the norm amongst
that pragmatic society. Weapon dealers in an
age of global war, they have thrived during the
Jihad and have designed, built and sold a
host of new designs.
A lot of people are glad to see that those
mechs are sold elsewhere, and not used as
part of yet another threatening Touman.
The Akula is one of those designs, a beast
bristling with energy weapons, free of
ammunition constraints, and as fast as a

The heavy lasers precision problems are

compensated for by that expensive
equipment. The biggest issue is the armor,
which is lighter than expected. That fact
doesn't much help the poor MechWarriors that
have had the misfortune to meet an Akula in
combat.

The Akula 2 has ER PPCs instead of heavy

lasers. Its heat dissipation problems are
worse, but the sustained firepower is
frightening.
Notable Pilots.
Star Commander Yussef Hawker. He
received one of the first Akulas ever built. He
faced the hated Nova Cats in that famous
trial. His star defeated the entire trinary thanks
to their dexterity, courage and the firepower of
the new mech. Nicknamed Gunsmoke he
headcapped 2 mechs that day.

MR-1R MOURO

Mass: 95 tons
Chassis: Isometric 95 Endo Steel
Power Plant: 380 Martin EAW XL
Armor: Strasbourg Armaments 206
Armament:
8 Holly Streak SRM-2 Launchers
4 Blankenburg Medium Lasers
1 Blankenburg HF Large Pulse Laser
1 Kingslaughter H Extended Range PPC
Manufacturer: Martinson Armaments
Primary Factory: Terra
Communication System: Blow 301 SNA Net
Targeting and Tracking System: Scope DST
General Information.
One of the most powerful Mechs in Amaris
army, the Mouro had a inglorious origin. The
Spartan was a poor assault mech, faster but
far less powerful than other assault mechs of
its time.
Martinson Armaments decided to create an
improved version. Named after a
subterranean spirit, the Mouro was a great
mech that failed to defeat the might of SLDF.
Design Features.
The Spartan was a great improvement over

the Charger, but it was worse than other

Mechs like the Flashman.
Martinson choose a heavier chassis with a
smaller engine. A MASC system was fitted in
order to maintain speed, Those changes
altered the chassis and the mech was very
different than the original Spartan. The
weapons were also upgraded. The 8 streak
launchers were a nasty surprise for short
range battles. The ER PPC remained, but an
extra weapon, a large pulse laser, was added.
Finally, the medium pulse lasers were
replaced and a bigger array of medium lasers
fitted, turning the Mech into a short range
beast.
The Mouro was powerful, tough and
(relatively) fast. However, it was hard to build
and very expensive. Finally, there turned out
to be a structural fault in the chassis that
doomed the Mech after only a few years of
service.
Battle History.
The first units took part in the battle of
Carver V and, after that, they served across
the Amaris Empire. A prestigious ride, it was
handed to some of the best mechwarriors.

The Mouro was a force of nature in battle,

becoming the bane of King Crab pilots, one of
their favored victims.
The few remaining units that survived the
war and the Exodus suffered from the chassis
issues that couldn't be solved without a full
redesign. The factory was closed, but there
are rumours that the Word of Blake has
reopened it.
Variants.
One variant added a second ER PPC
instead of the large pulse laser. There are
rumours of another mech, the Lobisome
connected to the Mouro, powerful and fast,
but it is not clear if it is the same mech, a
variant or a different design
Notable Pilots.

he joined the Amaris Empire and became a
fanatical soldier. Awarded with a Mouro, he

before the lance that protected Kerensky
destroyed him.

General Information.
The war against the Black Dragons and the
Word of Blake left huge scars on the Draconis
Combine, and the entire state has suffered as
a result. The big purges against Black Dragon
followers and Blakists demoralized entire
worlds and, even worse, the DCMS. One of
the biggest problems was that a lot of citizens
believed that the reforms ordered by
Theodore Kurita stole the japanese soul of
the nation. With this morale problema, and
facing the daunting task of defeating the Word
of Blake, the High Command asked for a new
mech able to restore the soul of the ancient

samurai to the nation. Independence

Weaponry had become a major power in the
Draconis Combine, and they jumped on the
chance of building such a prestigious Mech.
The design pleased both the Coordinator and
the Kanrei and it was named Musashi to
honor Mirumoto Musashi, the most powerful
samurai of ancient Japan.
Design Features.
An improved version of the reliable Akuma,
the Musashi features new improved jump jets,
that weight even more than the Mechs
engine. This new jump capability required an
improved and strengthened chassis. A
compact gyro enables the Mushahi to avoid
crippling damage from one lucky hit.
The Mech has been carefully crafted. The
head looks like an ancient mempo, a dragon
head is built into the chest and the wide
shoulder pads resemble samurai armor. The
weapons are lighter than usual in a mech this
heavy, but there was a price to pay for the
jump jets. All the weapons are energy-based
a decisin that was made on purpose to allow
the mech to be able to fight longer than other,
ammo-based assault mechs. Finally, the
heavy armor allows the mech to weather a lot

of damage before being destroyed.

Battle History.
The Musashi has been part of the Draconis
Combine counterattack and has been very
successful against Blakist units. Awarded to
dutiful soldiers, it has achieved notable
victories. Its toughness and swiftness are
highly praised and the mech is one of the
favourites of elite units like the Genyosha and
the Ryuken. The mech has a promising
future.
Variants.
The first variant has ER large lasers instead
of the original large lasers. A second version
is equipped with a second PPC and additional
medium lasers.
Notable Pilots.
Tai-Sa Tensaburo Isoroku. One of the most
promising members of the Genyosha, he
single-handedly defeated three Celestials. He
crushed the cockpits of all the enemy mechs.
He has been spotted doing karate katas with
his Mech.

PTCR-2D PITCAIRN

Mass: 100 tons

Chassis: GM Pitcairn-M with Endo Steel
Power Plant: GM 300
Armor: Valiant Lamellor
Armament:
4 Mydron Model RC Rotary/5 Autocannons
Manufacturer: General Motors
Primary Factory: Talcott
Communication System: Dalban
Supermicronics
Targeting and Tracking System: Dalban
HiRez-P
General Information.
The Jihad dealt a severe blow to General
Motors and they were forced to improvise to
produce new designs. GMs Talcott factory
was upgraded, and the last project from the
New Syrtis design office, the Pitcairn, has
began to roll off the new assembly lines.

Issues with the chassis delayed production

of the Pitcairn. Initially intended to be a variant
of the Nightstar, the design didn't work out,
and a brand new chassis had to be designed.
(Oddly enough, the discarded chassis has
been tested for use with quad designs.)
The final chassis is very big and the cockpit
was moved to the right to house the extralarge gyro in the center torso. Armament of 4
rotary autocannons justify the effort used to
solve the design problems, as they give
unparalleled firepower. The rotary
autocannons initially suffered from
ammunition feed problems, but these were
solved after some minor changes. The
changes enhanced safety in the event of
jamming, and extended the autocannons field
of fire.

Named after a hero of the Reunification War,

everybody expects that the name will not be
welcomed by Blakists and Taurians. Analysts
believe that its huge firepower will not be
welcome, either.

The huge firepower takes a even bigger toll

on ammunition. The resulting ammo bins
would normally make the mech unsafe.
However, tests showed that the 160 salvos
carried run out so quickly that the Mech,
oddly enough, is safer than mechs with gauss
rifles.

Design Features.

Battle History.

Like other slow assault Mechs, the Pitcairn

is vulnerable in open terrain, but less than
other well-regarded designs like the
Sagittaire.
The Pitcairn creates a huge bubble of
doom that only a few pilots dare to enter.
With good tactics and better pilots, the
Pitcairn has defeated a lot of Blakist mechs
on the road to Terra, and is the dream of
almost every Davion mechwarrior.
Variants.
There are two variants being built. The first
carries a heavy PPC to decrease ammunition
dependency and to provide more long range
firepower. The second one has a XL engine
and MASC in order to be as fast as other
cavalry units.
Notable Pilots.
Major Joel Salas. Salas was the first Pitcairn
MechWarrior to pilot it in combat, destroying
two light mechs in one salvo and then another
heavy mech with his second. He helped the
high command to devise strategies about how
to use the Mech and best use the
ammunition.

STORM GIANT

Mass: 100 tons

2 Type XII Streak SRM-6 Launchers
Manufacturer: Novy Minsky Weapons Plant
Primary Factory: New Kent
Communication System: Mercer 173
Targeting and Tracking System:GEG-Pattern
192/0
General Information.
The Storm Giant was one of the biggest
boondoggles in Clan Steel Vipers history.
Designed to defeat Mechs like the Imp or the
Wakazashi, it had great firepower and
mobility. Unfortunately, it was extremely
expensive, and its sensors were plagued by
design flaws. The Mech was in service for a
very short amount of time.
Design Features.
The designers objective was to achieve
great firepower and, on paper, the Storm
Giant had plenty of it. Armed with LRMs,

SRMs, and a powerful ultra autocannon, it

should have curb-stomped other assault
mechs. The lack of ammunition was a minor
issue because the Storm Giant was designed
for short trials. Its mobility was excellent and
it is rumored that the famed Executioner was
inspired by this mech.
The Storm Giants biggest problem was its
sensor system. The array had two pylons, one
of them next to the autocannon. The
vibrations generated by shooting in ultra
mode could misalign the sensors and damage
the delicate components after the third shot.
After the fifth shot, the sensors were
completely useless.
Battle History.
Surprisingly enough, the Storm Giant
debuted with an astonishing victory over Clan
Coyote. A prestigious unit in the beginning,
tales of unexpected sensor failure appeared
in the following months. Finally, the big design
mistake was detected and the Mech become
one more in the long list of units fitted with
weapons prone to cause self-destruction. The
blow to its prestige was great, but the Mech
was very expensive and had been produced
in great numbers. This forced the Clan to

divert more resources to attempt to redesign

the sensors. Clan Coyote, seeking for
revenge, waited until the redesign was
completed to issue a trial of possession and
steal the new sensors.
After this humiliation, Clan Steel Viper chose
to remove the Mech from front line service.
The remaining Mechs were mothballed after
a few more years serving in Solahma units.
More than a century later and, after a deep
refit, the design came back as the Scylla.
Variants.
One advanced variant was produced, fitted
with ferro-fibrous armor and MASC. This
variant, of which only a few were built, was
the basis of the Scylla.
Notable Pilots.
Star Captain George Mercer. He was one of
the strongest Warriors of the Clan, almost like
an Elemental. He used his brute force to win
his Bloodname and his Storm Giant. However,
George Mercer was more than just his muscle
and, thanks to his technical knowledge, it was
he who detected the design mistake in the
sensors.

General Information.
The Spitfire was a big surprise for analysts.
The fifth (and last) known LAM mech built in
large numbers, the Spitfire has been largely
unknown for centuries.

stealthy and effective. Blackburn Aerospace,

a civilian contractor linked with the
Blackhearts but without prior experience in
military designs, was commissioned to
produce it. Allied Aerospace helped them, but
it took a lot of time to achieve a working
prototype.
The SLDF received an unusual LAM, that
looked like an Stalker. The first versions
lacked heavy weapons and at first sight, the
project was a dismal failure. But the Spitfire
had something unique, its advanced armor
and electronics. Blackburn Aerospace was
expert in communications technology, sensors
and electronic warfare. They achieved stealth
characteristics akin to the Spector and the
Exterminator on a LAM.
Battle History.

And for a good reason, as the Spitfire took

part only in classified missions. Finally,
information gathered from Clan Ghost Bear,
and surviving files from Blackburn, uncovered
the Spitfire project.
Design Features.
Tailor-made for the Blackhearts and other
special forces of the SLDF, the LAM was

Thanks to the efforts of the Blackhearts and

the chaos created by the Exodus the Spitfire
remained a secret for centuries. There were
no files and no pictures of it.
Finally, analysts looking in ancient files from
the Ghost Bears discovered the truth. Used
for first time in 2760 the Spitfire was very
successful thanks to its stealth characteristics

and flexibility. It seems that it was very good

in ambushes.
The Spitfire was the last thing hundreds of
Amaris officers saw before dying. The SLDF
knew how dangerous this LAM was, and the
factory was destroyed before the Exodus.
Blackburn Aerospace was absorbed by NETC
and the Spitfire vanished into thin air.
Variants.
We only have data from the original version,
but it is fairly clear that the final variant had
advanced stealth features and different
weapons.
Notable Pilots.
Lieutenant Jacques Graham. A pilot from the
Blackhearts, he was awarded several times
for success in secret missions. After the war it
was revealed that he personally executed
three Colonels in their own headquarters. A
legend amongst the Blackhearts, he joined
the Exodus and died in the Pentagon Civil
War.

RPR-1DR REAPER LAM

Mass: 55 tons
Chassis: DR-55-AA
Power Plant: Core Tek 275
Armor: Maximilian 100
Armament:
6 Maxim Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Allied Aerospace
Primary Factory: New Earth
Communication System: Hartford Drone
Baseband 4
Targeting and Tracking System: HartfordAllied Trakit 10-V
General Information.
LAMs were not very successful units. The
proverbial Jack of all trades, master of none
of their era, they had a lot of issues. Despite
that, they were good enough for production as
niche units.
However, initial tests against Caspar drones
showed that they were effective against
WarShips.The procurement division asked for
a drone LAM that could be able to attack
WarShips after landing on their hull. It was an
interesting concept and Allied Aerospace tried
to design such a drone. Unfortunately, it
seems that the control system had several

key flaws, and the project was discarded as a

boondoggle.
Star League CAAN units had, at the time,
asked for a new recon unit, but had not had
any luck with the proposed designs. Officers
from the Procurement division were tired of
the complaints and they showed them the
specs of the drone LAM.
The Reaper looked promising enough, and
showed potential as a recon unit. The fact that
was a LAM instead of a VTOL was not a
problem for the stubborn CAAN leaders, and
the Reaper entered production.
Design Features.
The Reaper was a very powerful LAM.
Unlike previous designs, it was more focused
on the AirMech and Aerospace modes than in
the usual Mech mode. That was ideal for
attacking Caspar drones, but not that great for
a more conventional mission profile.
There ended up being no complaints
because the Reaper was built for recon and
raiding missions, for which the Mech mode
was not that important. The Reaper had very

clean lines with twin tails. Arm and leg armor

were specially shaped in a effort to reduce
drag. Mech mode was a bit ungainly, and the
transformation was complex with a lot of
moving parts.
AirMech mode was much better, and free
from the drag problems that plagued other
designs. The lower half had special fins that
channeled the air and increased stability.
Easier to pilot, the Reaper allowed more
intense maneuvers than other LAMs. Finally,
the aerospace mode was very advanced and
could rival slow aerospace fighters.
The choice of weapons was conventional,
with six medium lasers placed in the
shoulders. The lack of range was less of a
problem than expected, as the Reaper was to
be used as a recon unit, and the energy
weapons were more than adequate for raiding
missions.
The lack of ammo dependancy was a major
selling point. The sensor system was an
improved version of that installed in the
Phoenix Hawk LAM, and gave CAAN units
unsurpassed recon capabilities.

Battle History.
Built in limited numbers before APOTHEOSIS,
the Reaper had a great reputation amongst
the pilots but not that great amongst techs, as
the conversion procedure was complex and
some parts were fragile. The first production
run had problems with rudder controls.
However, a repair kit was issued before the
conquest of Allied Aerospace factory by
Amaris forces. The factory was partly
destroyed in that raid and production ceased.
The Reapers already in service suffered from
the lack of parts, but CAAN techs were
notorious for their creativity. They discovered
that the small engines that moved the tails
were akin to the engines found in the Agile
Speedster car. All the Speedsters of Quantico
were bought and salvaged, including the one
owned by General Van Der Kolk. The General
laughed at the idea of his car being used to
bolster the defences of Quantico and he
asked that the Reaper that would use the
engine should be named The General. The
recon units loved the idea and it raised the
morale as The General became a charmed
Reaper.Battle after battle, raid after raid, the

68

Reaper became a beloved unit and a symbol

of CAAN stubbornness. There are a lot of
tales of damaged Reapers not only able to
return to the base but able to outmaneuver
VTOLs and conventional fighters. With time,
the Reaper became a feared raider and the
Amaris units suffered a lot of damage on
Carver V thanks to daring CAAN raids behind
enemy lines. In one successful raid, they
managed to destroy General Noriko MiltonHarris main headquarters. Unfortunately for
the SLDF, the General was not there and the
battle for Carver V lasted another year until
SLDF reinforcements came, and Carver V
became free again. In later battles of the
Amaris Civil War the Reaper was a welcome
addition to recon units in the SLDF. In hands
of the now veteran CAAN pilots and their
veteran techs, the Reaper distinguished itself
on Terra. After the war, the few remaining
Reapers were in such a poor condition that a
major overhaul was in order. Fate intervened
and the CAAN units joined the Exodus. The
Reapers joined Kerensky's fleet and vanished
from the Inner Sphere into the unknown. No
th
Reaper survived to see the 29 century and
the design was quickly forgotten.
Variants.

There was a variant with three medium pulse

lasers instead of the six medium lasers. It
never entered production, the same as a
variant with an improved mech mode. The
Screamer LAM project shared several key
components with the Reaper.
Notable Pilots.
Sergeant Joseph Fosberg. A renowned
aerospace jock before joining the CAAN, he
was unwelcome at first until it was discovered
that he asked to join the CAAN because in the
past, CAAN units saved his father from
certain death after an air crash. He taught
other Reaper pilots special maneuvers that
saved their lives. Nicknamed Foss after the
famous US Marine pilot Joe Foss, he
struggled to become even better and shoot
down two Vulcans in a dogfight. After that
feat, his Reaper received some spare parts,
including the engine coming from General
Van Der Kolks own car. Both the General and
Foss became legends amongst the CAAN
units, and he almost killed General MiltonHarris during the raid against her
Headquarters. After a very successful career,
he joined the Exodus and disappeared.

LGB-19C SUPER LONGBOW

Mass: 160 tons

Chassis: Huntington Light 160
Power Plant: Hermes 320 Light
Armor: PanzerSlab Type 3
Armament:
8 Hollis LRM-15 Launchers
Manufacturer: Starcorps
Primary Factory: Terra
Communication System: Vex/Huntington E1A
Targeting and Tracking System:
Dilon/Huntington D3
General Information.
The Omega Project involved more than only
one design team. One of the biggest
manufacturers of Earth, Starcorps, was one of
them and they used their knowledge
regarding assault mechs to solve key issues.
Shortly after the Omega's debut a new
superheavy design appeared, the Super
Longbow. A superheavy variant of the
venerable fire support assault, it has armor
and firepower never seen before on a Inner
Sphere unit.
Design Features.
For third time in less than 20 years, the old

Longbow chassis was modified and, again, it

was a success. The original designers should
be proud of a chassis able to move a 160 ton
mech without requiring a major redesign.
The biggest issue was the increase in
ground pressure that made for tricky handling
in soft terrain. A minor redesign of the legs
and the feet, making them bigger, solved this
issue.

to the complementary nature of their

weapons. Only used on Earth, the few
surviving units were preserved as testbeds.
There are rumours about the commissioning
of a new variant and the resumption of
production on Terra. It is not a surprise, as the
LRM Volcano was highly praised by
everyone.
Variants.

With more than 20 tons of armor and CASE

II, the Super Longbow has has the best
protection of any Mech of its era. The LRM
racks, able to launch 120 missiles in a single
salvo, confirmed it as a big threat to enemy
units. Fitted with C3i, the Super Longbow is
able to devastate entire lances with ease.

A planned variant replaces the LRMs with

MMLs, similar to the lighter LGB-14C
Longbow. A single salvo of 72 short range
missiles in one salvo is more firepower than
most Clan assault mechs carry.
Notable Pilots.

Battle History.
The Super Longbow needs escorts because
it is too slow, and the LRMs have problems
targetting within their minimum range. Despite
this, it is a great assault mech and its
firepower is very dangerous, providing great
support for lighter units.

Precentor Matilde Heynes. Fighting until the

bitter end, Heynes managed to destroy 19
heavy Mechs with her Super Longbow before
running out of ammunition. Then the surviving
mechs of the battalion went after her and she
vanished in a huge explosion after destroying
another mech with a powerful kick.

It is a great teammate for the Omega thanks

TUPOLEV TU-170 STRELA BLIZZARD

Masa: 200 toneladas

Chasis: Tupolev OKB-170
Planta Motriz: Samara/Trud NK-350
Blindaje: Malyshev T5
Fabricante: PSC Tupolev
Planeta de Fabricacin: Tierra
Equipo de comunicacin: Block 8 TRACONM
Equipo de seguimiento y disparo: TRTTS-XII

At that point ICE engines and components

were very easy to build, allowing the wide
spread of the Strela across the universe.
Some of those new bombers were crudely
built copies, but others were more advanced.
Some of them improving the engines, while
others added extra systems. Some were used
as waterbombers, a testament of the frame's
simplicity and flexibility.

General Information.
Battle History.
Anachronistic but deadly.That motto was
spot on regarding the Strela. One of the
oldest units that fought in the Amaris Civil
War, the Tupolev TU-170 was designed in
1998 and its maiden flight was in 2006. Oleg
Tikonov was present that day. The bomber
even received a NATO codename. The
Blizzard was good but, 700 years later, it
was obsolete, its nuclear missions long
forgotten.
Design Features.
A Soviet bomber designed to bomb the
United States, the Strela had an advanced
anti missile system, the first mounted on an
airplane. 200 years later, the frame proved its
toughness and the oldest units were still in
flight condition.

More useful than conventional bombers, the

Strela was a dangerous but fragile unit.
However, it was so easy to build that the
colonies used them in the Outreaches
Rebellion against the Terran Alliance. Some
time after that, James McKenna had to face
them. The design served during the Age of
War and in the Reunification War.
In 2600, when peace settled down again, the
surviving Strelas ended in backwater militias,
forgotten by most. That was a mistake, as
was proved on Graham IV. The Amaris forces
used them against Fort Ball, effectively
destroying it. When Kerensy liberated
Murchison a grateful millionaire gifted the
SLDF with 50 newly produced Strelas. Those
were used effectively on Terra, bombing

targets despite suffering heavy loses. Strelas

still fly on several planets, now as a civilian
firefighters, a great testament to the Tupolev
engineers.
Variants.
There were scores of variants, most of them
crudely built, with new components bolted to
the frame. The main variant had a fission
engine.
Notable Pilots.
Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Yevgrfovich
Petrv. Known as the man that saved the
world twice, he prevented a nuclear attack in
1983 when a satellite raised a false alarm.
Returned to service in the USSR during the
Second Soviet Civil War, he was ordered to
launch a nuclear strike against NATO forces
in Riga. He convinced the crews and the
planes flew to Switzerland, avoiding a nuclear
war.

Get into the Shadows!

It appeared that peace arrived in 3080 after many years of war. Finally, information
could be gathered about units that fought in the Jihad. These unknown designs have
arisen from the shadows. We have also received more data regarding the fall of the
Star League, with new units that fought in that war.
The Technical Readout Shadows of War 1.0 is the translated version of a much
bigger Spanish Fan-Made TRO. You will enjoy mechs of all eras, combat vehicles and
unusual units.
