1. Any bona fide undergraduate student of the college is open to join the College-wide Statistical
Eliminations. Officers of the Mathematical Association of Technology Students are automatically
disqualified from joining the contest.
2. The elimination is divided into two parts: the written problem solving and oral examinations.
3. The written problem solving examination, followed by the oral examination, will be held on August
29, 2014 - 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
4. On the written exam, the students will be given a thirty (30) item test to be answered in an hour.
5. Only the top ten (10) highest scorers will proceed to the oral rounds.
6. The oral rounds will be a fifteen (15) item test in three (3) parts: five (5) easy, five (5) average and
five (5) difficult questions.
7. The easy questions will be answered in ten (10) seconds and one correct answer corresponds to one
(1) point. The average questions will be answered in 30 seconds and one correct answer corresponds
to two (2) points. Difficult questions will be answered in one (1) minute and one (1) correct answer
corresponds to three (3) points.
8. In the oral examination, the quiz master shall preside to give the questions in a Power point
presentation.
9. In case of a tie during the oral examination, clincher questions shall be asked.
10. The questions for the entire contest shall be about Definition of Statistics, Areas of Statistics, Uses of
Statistics, Organization and Presentation, Sampling Techniques, Summary Sampling, Counting
Techniques, Correlations and Regressions, Hypothesis Testing Probability, Statistics, Personalities,
and other related topics.
11. The entire contest shall be conducted in English.
12. Scientific calculators, slide rules, mathematical tables and cell phones are strictly prohibited during
the contest proper.
13. Registration starts from August 26, 2014 to August 29, 2014. Last registration shall be fifteen (15)
minutes before the contest.
14. The contestants should be at the contest venue fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled time.
Immediate default will be implemented out to the contestant who fails to show up in ten (10)
minutes after the supposed start of his/her match.
15. Clarifications regarding the General Mechanics shall be entertained by the Mathematical Association
of Technology Students (MATHS) Academic Affairs Committee before the start of the contest.
