Mission San Miguel Archangel is an active Catholic

Franciscan Community. Our mission is to offer
Spiritual refuge and welcome all of Gods children
no matter where they may be on their journey.

The Holy Father Pope Francis published a beautiful encyclical letter on care for the environment. It is entitled Laudato
Si [Praise be to You, My Lord]. The descriptive title for the
Encyclical is On Care for Our Common Home. Pope Francis
took this title from the words of St. Francis of Assisis Canticle
of the Sun, praising God for his creation. The theme of the Encyclical reminds the faithful that as Christians we have a duty to
care for our Earth and to preserve it for future generations.
In the Book of Genesis, we find the following, The Lord
God then took the man [Adam] and settled him in the garden to
cultivate and care for it. Gen. 2:15. As was true for the first
man, so too for us.
It is our responsibility to cultivate and to care for what God
has given to us and entrusted to us. As the drought continues in
our western states, we are well aware of the need for us all to
care for our limited resources. This is a tremendous responsibility. Our Holy Fathers Encyclical gives us so many suggestions
and tools with which to protect and to preserve the natural
beauty and variety of His Creation.
For example: The first paragraph, Pope Francis says, Saint
Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a
sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who
opens her arms to embrace us. Praise be to you, my Lord,
through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us,
and who produces various fruit with colored flowers and herbs.
May God bless us all as we try to respond to Pope Francis
powerful and timely message. Continue to enjoy your summer
season with love and prayers.

Fact No. 5. - Did you know that

Native Americans, of course, had
their own religion and way of life?
Some, such as the Luiseno, had a
Christian-like god named Wiyot,
who died for his people. Christianity was so strange to the Luiseno.
With all his heart, Fray Junipero
Serra wanted to teach all the First People of the
Land of California the Gospel of Love, and, as a
Christian, to baptize and save them for a heavenly
paradise. Next week - fact No. 6 of 16!
