BEGINNERS ONLY
This class is ONLY for those who have NEVER knit before. This class is a comprehensive 5
week series. Learn to knit, purl, increase, decrease, simple stitch patterns, cables, basic
6:15 or
garment construction techniques & more. Please do NOT sign up for this class if you have

knit before, even if it was 30 years ago! Class requires ability to complete a simple
homework swatch each week. Missed classes must be made up before attending next class.

For the true beginner, or knitter who needs to build crochet skills. One 3 hour lesson covers
all the basics including single, double, treble crochet, reading simple crochet patterns and

This class is perfect for those who have not knit in a long time, are self-taught, or are simply
unsure of their techniques and for those who want a review from casting on to binding off
with a quick tour through basic cables, simple lace, increases, decreases and more. 1 class

We’ll make a small sock, cuff down on double pointed needles so you can learn all the basic
steps in sock-making. Once you know this method, you can then move on to other sock-
making techniques like toe up, socks on 2 circs, etc. Long tail cast on is required. Yarn

Great skill builder for newer and experienced knitters alike! Learn 6 stitch patterns in class
on practice yarn that you can then knit into a scarf in your choice of yarn. Call for supply list.

Learn to Knit Lace A great way to learn lace stitches, lace charts and get a stunning spa cloth as a result! Lace
Tuesdays 3/16 & 3/23 6:30 or is just a bunch of yarn wrapped around a lot of holes! This class is two sessions. Bonus:
Mondays 4/12 & 4/19 6:15 learn provisional cast on, life lines and SSK! Pick up some great tips in this class that you

Make 2 different cabled cotton dish or spa cloths in this class and learn how to mix it up a
bit. Each cloth has different cable techniques. Learn to read cable charts. Two classes

Why would you cast on any other way? Long tail? Cabled cast on? Provisional? Knitted?
Which one is best? And. . .there are other ways to bind off? HELP! Take this class and learn
how to do these other techniques, when to use them, and why you need more than your
one standard method. Two 2-hour classes will be an investment of time that will be

LAST CALL! We are offering this popular class one last time in 2010 so register early!
Classes are spaced far enough apart to allow you time to knit to the next step. See the
beautiful colorways being worked by current students in our newsletter. A great stash
buster and skill builder! Knit a sweater from cuff to cuff with your leftover yarn (up to 24
different yarns). It’s a great opportunity to use up or add fancy yarns to this design! This
garment will fit size small to XXXL. You’ll learn to measure as you go and fill in the blanks on
your pattern. Almost like designing your own sweater with most of the work done for you!
The first class will focus on choosing yarn, knitting gauge & sizing. A beginner with basic
skills can make this sweater. Materials: approx 1,200 – 2,000 yards of various yarns (ok to
mix light weight/bulky/colors/textures). By: Diane Dippold
4 Square + Cable Sweater (NEW) This sweater will be written just for you! The shop sample is child-sized, but you
(see shop model) can make ANY size you want! From the basic design, you can also select different
sleeve lengths, neck finishing, and yarns. At the first class we will knit gauge

General Class Guidelines

Payment is due at time of registration. No spaces can be held without payment. Registration & payment
must be made no later than 3 days prior to the start date of class. Teachers are paid by student fees alone,
and are not paid an hourly rate by the shop. Refunds are not given later than 3 days prior to the start of
the class unless the class is cancelled for lack of participation. When you sign up, be sure that you are able
to attend every session. There are no refunds for missed classes, and make-up sessions may not be
possible. In an emergency situation, a make-up class may be considered by private arrangement with the
teacher and there will be a $10 make-up class fee payable directly to the teacher at the time of the
make-up class. Make-up classes cannot be done during a teacher's floor time (if your teacher is also an
employee of Uptown Fibers). It is up to the student to contact the teacher for missed class information. In
the event that the class is cancelled by Uptown Fibers, refunds will be given in the same form of original
payment.

Unless specifically noted, cost of supplies is NOT included with class fees. Also, unless otherwise noted, supplies
are to be purchased at Uptown Fibers.

Good class manners: In consideration of others, please do not wear any fragrance to class. All cell phones must be
off. Arrive at least 10 minutes early to get settled. Bring all your knitting notions. Do your homework, and come to the
shop to brush up on basics a few days BEFORE your class if you are not sure that your skills are fresh or match the class
requirements. Thanks for your consideration of these “good class manners” as they will make everyone’s experience
much more enjoyable!
