SEX EDUCATION SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL

We must fight this problem of unwanted pregnancies, babydumping, among teenagers and promiscuity. This is what has been said
by the deputy of minister of education of Malaysia, YB Dato IR.DR. Wee
Kaa Siong in November 2010. Based on his speech, it shows that sex
education should be taught as a core subject in the school curriculum. Sex
education is information about sex and sexual relationships and also is a
way to teach students about reproductive system of human. In addition,
this education can prevent young people from being involved in illness
social problem.
Teaching sex education will give a big impact on students to prevent
unwanted pregnancy that lead to abortion problem. It provides proper
knowledge, to make them responsible for their own action. It is really
important to know about the consequences of physically abusing and
engaging in sexual risky behaviors because normally young people might
be dying if they give birth. They also have to know the consequences of
having babies at young ages, as they are still baby themselves.
Moreover, sex education plays main role to prevent the spread of
sex transmitted diseases such as Aids and HIV by teach the teenagers
about how to practice healthy sexual behavior. It is morally wrong for
unmarried couples to engage in sexual intercourse outside marriage by
encourage them to have marriage relationship as the only way of safe

sex. They also should take note that sexual activity outside of marriage is
likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects where a sexually
active person can lose a sense of personal value and worth after giving
the most personal parts of them. It all comes down to self-respect and
feelings of being used. Sex education can help to develop interpersonal
skills including communication, decision making and assertiveness,
especially on how to say NO to sexual activity outside of marriage.
Furthermore, through sex education, teenagers not only can know
the anatomy of body part but how each person develops at different
phases. It also provide opportunity to question and explore more about
human sexuality including human development, relationship personal
skills and details about male and female development process. With
these, they will aware about the importance to take care and protect each
part of their bodies. In other hand, sex education also guide on how to
take care, protect them and other issues regarding personal hygiene.
In addition, appropriate sexual education can avoid social problems
because of having social problems; students are tend to be low selfesteem, loss reputation and cannot perform well in their studies. Young
people who are sexually active in school usually will find their schoolwork
unsettled. Sex education provides information on how to increase selfesteem and create insight concerning relationships with members of both
genders and they will understand obligations in relationship. By practicing
the dos and donts in both gender relationships, social problems can be
prevented.

As a conclusion, sex education comes with a thousand of goodness

and advantages to our young people nowadays. One major aim of
education is to prepare the younger generation for life. Sexuality being
very much a part of life ought not to be neglected. Last but not least, I
strongly believe that sex education should be taught in school.
