Course Description: This course is designed to prepare students for the study of calculus. First semester will cover advanced topics
in algebra and second semester will cover topics in trigonometry.

Textbook/Materials:
Textbook: Algebra and Trigonometry 2nd Edition, Cynthia Young
1 inch 3-ring binder with 5 section dividers
1 package of loose leaf paper
At least 2 pencils with erasers
At 1-2 poster boards used throughout the year
TI-84 or TI-Nspire Calculator
All above items are required and are available at OPRFHS bookstore
Grades: Grades will be calculated according to the following scale:
Tests:
40%
Quizzes: 30%
Homework/Classwork/Projects:
30%
Grading Scale:
A 90-100%

B 80-89%

C 70-79%

D 60-69%

F 59% and below

Quarter Grade: At the conclusion of each quarter a grade will be assigned based on the categories listed above. Quarter grades reset
at the start of a new quarter however the two quarter grades determine your final semester grade.
Final Exam Grade: A final exam will be given during the last 3 days of the semester and will consist of both multiple choice
questions and free response questions. The final exam is a cumulative assessment of the entire semester.
Semester Grade:
Quarter 1 - 40%,

Quarter 2 - 40%

Final Exam - 20%

PARENT ACCESS TO GRADES:

I try to update Skyward weekly. It is important that you, and your family, use this tool to stay aware of your overall grade in the class
as well as how you are performing in each of the categories mentioned above. If you have concerns about anything you see on
Skyward related to your grade, please let me know promptly.

TEACHER EXPECTATIONS & DAILY ROUTINES:

Binder: You are expected to keep a binder with 5 different sections. Each section should be labeled clearly and maintained daily.
The sections are Warm-ups/Exit Slips, Notes, Book Work/Worksheets, Vocabulary, and Rev/Quiz/Test.

Proper Heading: If an assignment is given from a worksheet then a HW# should be placed in the upper right hand corner. If an
assignment is given from the book then it should be completed on a separate piece of paper with a proper heading in the upper right
hand corner that includes: your name, the date, and the assignment number. An assignment will not be credited if it lacks the proper
heading.

Daily Homework: Homework will be assigned almost daily. Homework assignment will be completed on loose- leaf paper when
appropriate with the proper heading and ordered in your binder. All problems must be written out completely and all work must be
shown. All problems need to be attempted to receive full credit. Late assignments will be collected up to two days after the due date.

Skyward and Homework: On Skyward each homework tab will have a range of dates when homework was due and collected. It
will also show the total points possible that could have been achieved. The total points will reflect homework turned in, homework
turned in late or homework that was not turned in. If 7/10 is given, that means some homework was not turned in or was turned in late.

Quizzes and Tests: Must be taken in pencil. At least one test and one quiz will be given during each chapter. If you are only
absent the day before the test/quiz, you will still take the test on the scheduled day. If you are absent only the day of a test, you must
take the test on the day you return.

Notes:
You should write down all class notes and order them into your binder unless the notes are already preprinted. Make sure to include a
proper heading and that they contain everything that was written on the screen, blackboard, and discussed in class.

Unexcused Tardies:
In order to make the most of our time together, it is important that you come to class on time and begin working right away. Being
tardy to class means that you are missing important components of the days activities. If you have an unexcused tardy you will NOT
be given additional time to complete tests, quizzes, or class work already in progress

Excused Absences:
If you are absent for class, it is your responsibility to pick up any worksheets or notes that were completed in class. If you are absent
the day of a test or quiz, you are expected to take it the day you return. If you are absent the day prior to a test or quiz, you are to take
it as scheduled. For multiple day absences, you will receive that many days plus one to complete your test or quiz. All completed
notes are available on my twitter or by asking me for a copy.

Unexcused Absences:
If you have an unexcused absence you will NOT:
a) Be able to turn in HW that was collected or checked in during your absence and you lose the privilege of turning in late
HW.
b) Get an extension on any assignments that are due the day you return to class
c) Be able to make up tests, quizzes, or class work missed

Academic Integrity:
Working together on HW and projects where appropriate is strongly encouraged. However, copying other peoples work is prohibited.
If you copy from another student or any other source (or allow a student to copy your work), you will receive a zero for the
assignment and will not be permitted to redo the assignment. If you are quoting or paraphrasing from an outside source for a project
or paper, be sure to cite the source appropriately.
Classroom Rules: Cell phone use in the classroom is prohibited. You will be written up if you take the phone out in class
without permission. This is your warning. Cell phone use during any assessment results in an automatic zero on that assessment.
You will be asked to turn off, and place your cell phone in your backpack during any assessment. You cannot use your cell phone as a
calculator during class as your TI-84 or TI-Nspire serves this purpose.
