Dear

Since our arrival we have spent three weeks with Lisa's sister Rose in
Harare, getting acclimatized and renewing old acquaintances. Although we
were not able to borrow a car, as I did last time, we had the use of a vehicle

when it was needed. It w/as rather nice, almost a holiday! Jim preached at
Harare Christian Church, our home church, on June 25, to a congregation of
about 200 adults. The service was in Shona and English, and lasted over
three hours!!! but, what a blessing! a month later they still remember his
sermon.! A week later, we drove to Gweru; there Jim preached his first
sermon on the 2nd July, and has preached every Sunday since.
The congregation at Gweru Christian church is largely comprised of
coloureds (mixed race), some Shona families, our next door neighbour, a
European lady, and two inter related European families. We were saddened
by one of the elders illness and subsequent death in Harare. At my arrival in
Zimbabwe, I had been able to visit him in hospital and give pastoral care to
the family. I was asked to participate in the funeral service, with another
Zimbabwean and ex Springdalian, Richard Lee.

Three weeks ago we celebrated Mavis & Temba Chikonye's wedding. They
have been married 25 years already in the African traditional way, but
wanted God's blessing in their union. It was a joyous occasion, with much
celebration. Their eight children participated in the ceremony. Before the
exchange of vows, their eighth child, Elisha, 5 months, was dedicated. These
two faithful Christians are our house workers. We have become very fond of

them, in the four weeks we have been here. They live on the property, along
with two coloured lads, on whom we keep an eye on.
The property is very large, on just over two acres.

The house has five

bedrooms, a gym, a library, a lounge, a dining room and a large office.

Quite a change from our small house in England! The church building is also
on the property, and might more accurately be described as a chapel. In
addition to the servants quarters, which house Temba &family, and the two
boys, there are a couple of classrooms and some store rooms.

We have

experienced a number of problems with a burst pipe, the bore hole, and a
faulty electricity line, which were straightened out this last week. Satan really
rattled our cage!

Lisa is happily getting the house to her liking and making a goodjob of
teaching the midweek Bible Study, which usually attracts 18 to 20 people.
She teaches for about 40 minutes, and Jim leads the hour of prayer.
Vanessa is happy; she has a lot of friends, and a new suntan. We are
allowing her time to find herself before she can make a decision about
college. Jim is enjoying the challenge, but it's a lotta work!
