Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents ISSUE # 26
WEEK OF MARCH 01 TO 05, 2010
During assembly this past Wednesday your child heard about course offerings for next school year. Starting
on Monday, March 1st, we will begin our on-line course registration process, which is expected to be completed
by Friday, March 5th. We encourage you to go onto the portal and download the course selection sheet and the
course descriptors for each grade level. Please read these over with your child and ensure they are aware of
the classes they should sign-up for when they register on-line. Our current Grade 8 students have been given
a course selection book from the High School and will need to use this to decide on their courses for school
year 2010-2011. Students will utilize Homebase time during the week to register for the courses. If you have
any questions about course choices, please talk to either Ms. Katz or Mr. St. Laurent in MS Guidance.
Please note that there will be a combined MS-HS Parent Coffee on Tuesday, March 9 from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.
in the Little Theater. The topic to be discussed will be the Internet, Social Networking Sites and Your Child. We
hope you are able to attend.
The end of the 3rd quarter is only two weeks away. We encourage you to check PowerSchool and discuss your
child’s assignments, progress and level of achievement with them. In connection to this time of the semester,
we have the afternoon of March 16 set aside for Parent Teacher Conferences. If you have major concerns
about your child’s progress, please plan to attend. More detailed information will follow next week.
Looking ahead…ISM has the honor of being the first school to host the 8th EARCOS (East Asia Regional
Council of Overseas Schools) Teachers Conference from March 25th to 28th, 2010. Well-known presenters
and hundreds of teachers will be gathering to share their knowledge and experiences, and it provides an
invaluable venue for the exchange of ideas. In order to maximize the experience for our teachers and visiting
international school educators, students will be released from classes early on Thursday, March 25, which will
signal the start of spring break. Please mark your calendars
Sincerely,
Dear Parents:
First of all, we would like to thank you for your continuing support of International
School Manila, Inc. (the ‘Corporation’). The Corporation is a non-stock, non-profit member-
ship organization whose business, property, and affairs are managed by a Board of Trustees
consisting of ten (10) Members.
Our By-laws give you a central role in the governance of the Corporation, with five of
the ten Board seats being allocated to Associate Members. This year, there will be two (2) va-
cancies from the rank of Associate Membership. With this in mind, we seek your nomina-
tions for these posts, which must be submitted to the Corporate Secretary (at Room P089,
Administration Office, ISM Campus) on or before 08 April 2010.
All Associate Member candidates, who are members in good standing, will be inter-
viewed by the Committee on Trustees, and those whose skill-sets and profiles best meet the
needs of the School will be endorsed to the community for election.
Voting may be done in advance of, or at, the Annual General Meeting (AGM). From
11 May to 19 May 2010, a ballot box will be established in the administrative office area near
the Corporate Secretary’s office for those who wish to vote in advance of the AGM. Proxy
Forms which you submitted at the beginning of this year (enclosed in your Enrollment
Packet) will be used solely for attendance purposes and to determine presence of quorum at
the AGM, and cannot be used to vote.
The AGM will be held on 20 May 2010 in the Fine Arts Theater, and members of the
community who have not voted should cast their ballots at that meeting. Results will be an-
nounced as soon as the assigned auditing firm has concluded the count.
Prospective candidates for the Board should read the attached nomination and elec-
tion procedure and guidelines in full. The nomination and election procedure and guidelines
may also be viewed at the ISM website (www.ismanila.org).
