Variables for Exercise #6

Dependent Variable: RAP ‘R’s liking for rap’

Independent Variable: AGECAT ‘R’s age

Control Variable: Race: RACE ‘R’s

Bivariate Hypothesis: The age range of respondent has influence on who like rap. Age has an
effect on rape listeners. The white race is less likely to listen to rap music, whether than the black
race. Due to the fact rap was created in the black area, you would find less white men rapping
than you would find a black men. You would also find younger black listening than older black
people.

Multivariate Hypothesis: Adults between the ages of 40 and older are more likely to dislike rap
music versus young adults the age of 18-29 because rap music is focus directed to certain age
group. Younger adults are more inclined by the social agent media therefore they are the targeted
audience. Adults over the age of 30 are more likely to listen to more soft music, rhythm and
blues. Lyrical content has an effect on age 40 and older reasoning for not listening to rap.

Bivariate Discussion: In the graphs it is shown that 81.6% of black people from the age 18- 29
are more likely to listen to rap, when only 44.7 % of white people listen to rap. 65.7 % of with
people from 30- 39 years of age dislike rap, when only 28.2 % of black people dislike rap.
Therefore this is showing that black people in all age more like to like rap then a white person.

Multivariate Discussion: In the graph dealing with age controlling r’s race, black people 40 and
older (40.5) lead the chart in being the largest to listen to rap music over white’s age 40 years
and older (18.0) that like rap. It was shown that blacks listen to rap more than any other races,
then it is others and then it was whites with the least amount.
