NIFTY MIDCAP 50

The primary objective of the Nifty Midcap 50 Index is to capture the movement of the midcap segment of the market. The index
comprises of 50 stocks listed and is also available for trading in F&O segment at National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Nifty Midcap 50 Index is computed using free float market capitalization method, wherein the level of the index reflects the total free
float market value of all the stocks in the index relative to particular base market capitalization value.
Nifty Midcap 50 Index can be used for a variety of purposes such as benchmarking fund portfolios, launching of index funds, ETFs
and structured products.

Eligibility Criteria for Selection of


Constituent Stocks
i. C o m p a n i e s w i t h a v e r a g e m a r k e t
capitalization ranging from Rs. 1000 Crore
to Rs. 5000 Crore at the time of selection.
ii. Companies which are forming part of the
CNX NIFTY index are excluded.

iii. Companies that are allowed to trade in F&O


segment are only eligible to be constituent
of the index.
iv. Final selection of 50 companies shall be
done based on the free-float market
capitalization of the companies.

Index Re-Balancing:
Index is re-balanced on semi annual
basis. The cut-off date is January 31 and
July 31 of each year, i.e. For semiannual review of indices, average data
for six months ending the cut-off data is
considered. Four weeks prior notice is
given to market from the date of change.

Index Govenance:
A professional team at IISL manages
Nifty Midcap 50 Index. There is a threetier governance structure comprising the
Board of Directors of IISL, the Index
Policy Committee, and the Index
Maintenance Sub-Committee.
