Reflection on Past Teaching Experience

The experience I gained during my teaching practice in three schools displayed a

common feature pupils incompetency in writing tasks. Because of this, most of them
did not finish the work I assigned to them. This actually hindered me in my teaching
and learning, and I rectified this situation to prevent it from becoming a norm since the
scenario bore probabilities of distracting me and other pupils (Manning & Bucher, 2012).
At times, I was urged to deliver the instructions in the Malay Language, since the best
language of instruction is the pupils first language (Thomas & Collier, 2002, cited by
Wallace, 2004). However, I also realised that it would nullify the effects of learning
English Language if I pampered them with the comfort of their first language.

The purpose of the action research was to determine the extent to which the use
of magic dice can encourage and improve writing sentences among a group of
_____________ in SKTB in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. This game-like
teaching tool named RollA (Roll and Agree) was created to help pupils

Pupils rolled three-subject, three-verb and three-object magic dice on the RollA
and they quickly formed simple sentences based on a given picture stimulus.
This was then followed by the construction of compound sentences based on

different stimuli with the use of two RollAs. The research participants were
_____________________________ from the same class with __________
proficiency levels. The instruments used for data collection were
________________________________________________. The study revealed
that RollA was indeed a suitable teaching tool to enhance pupils writing of simple
and compound sentences. It is hoped that the RollA can be redesigned and
improvised so that it can be used in diverse ways in helping pupils improve their
writing of different types of sentences.
