Preface to the CMLIB F Hardware Reference Manual

Preface to the CMLIB F Hardware

Reference Manual
The purpose of this manual is to familiarize users with CMLIB F, and to show
how to properly use it in various application areas.
The manual contains important tips on how to use CMLIB F safely, properly, and
efficiently to help avoid unnecessary repair costs, and down time due to
improper operation. It should be read and used by all people working with
CMLIB F.
The accepted technical procedures for work safety should be followed in
addition to the guidelines provided by this manual and the applicable regulations
for accident prevention depending on the country in which you are working in
and also depending on the site of operation.

CMLIB F

Safety Instructions
Please carefully read the following safety instructions before operating
CMLIB F.
CMLIB F should only be operated by trained personnel. It is not
recommended to operate CMLIB F without detailed knowledge of the
safety instructions.

Designated Use

CMLIB F should only be connected to SELV interfaces. A connection with the

front panel terminals of the CMC is not permitted due to safety reasons.

The 16 pin "CMC" interface should only be connected to the generator

outputs of a CMC 156 (Gen. Out 7 - 12) or a CMC 256 (LL out 1 - 6).

The 16 pin "Amplifier" interface should only be connected to an OMICRON

amplifier, if the interface labelled "CMC" is connected to a CMC test set.

Do operate CMLIB F in a safe manner.

Do avoid disruptions that could in turn affect the safety of the operation.

Do not operate CMLIB F if not in technically sound condition.

Do not operate CMLIB F under wet or moist conditions.

Do not operate CMLIB F when explosive gas or vapors are present.

CMLIB F should not be opened. All guarantees are invalidated if the device
is opened.

CMLIB F

General Information

1 General Information
1.1 Application
The typical applications is testing of E/M relays with a high burden zero
sequence current coil.

1.2 Function
CMLIB F forms the vectorial sum of the voltages of LL OUT 1-3 / CMC 256
(Gen OUT 7-9 / CMC 156). The value is put out at LL OUT 4 (Gen OUT 10) in
an inverted state and put out at LL OUT 5 (Gen OUT 11) in a non-inverted state.
These two signals control the current amplifiers B1 and B2 of a CMA 156 and
generate the zero sequence current that is injected to the corresponding relay
input tranformers. The LL OUT (Gen OUT 7-9) signals are looped through the
CMLIB F and control the three phase currents A1-N, A2-N, A3-N of a CMA 156.
Controlling a CMA 156 this way increases the output power and makes the
compliance voltage in the zero sequence current path significant and thus
makes it possible to test E/M relays that cannot be tested with a conventional
set-up.

2 Construction and Functioning

2.1 Components
CMLIB F consists of the following components:

CMLIB F unit (VEHZ1107)

Power supply unit 100-240VAC/18VDC including plug-in adaptor for

country-specific wall outlets. (VEHZ1103)

Connection cable CMLIB F - CMC test set (VEHK0003, identical with the
CMC amplifier connection cable)

Shorting connector

Carrying bag for CMLIB F (VEHP0020)

2.2 Functioning of the LED

The LED (ON when lit) indicates that the CMLIB F is supplied (external supply);
if a CMC 256 is connected via the LEMO connectors then no external supply is
necessary.

2.3 Connections and Interfaces

2.3.1

Power Supply
The power supply of the CMLIB F is provided by means of a power supply unit
240VAC/18VDC that is equipped with an adapter for the various country specific
wall outlet.
The connector of this power supply is reverse polarity protected.

Note:

No external power supply is needed when a CMC256 is used.

2.4 Operating CMLIB F

Please check for the availability of all components prior to operating the
CMLIB F
The standard scope of supply comprises of:

2.4.1

CMLIB F unit

Connection cable CMLIB F - CMC

Connection cable CMLIB F - CMA Amplifier

Power supply unit 100-240VAC/18VDC

Operating the CMLIB F Hardware

1. Check the power switches. The power switches of the CMA 156 and the
CMC X56 have to be in position 0 (=OFF).
2. Connect the mains cables, CMA 156 and CMC X56.
3. Connect the 25-pin D-Sub cable, connection PC and CMC X56.
4. Check the slide switches of the CMA 156.
A: Position II
B: Position I (refer to the CMA 156 manual)
5. Connect lemo cables
Connection cable CMLIB F - CMC
Connection cable CMLIB F - CMA amplifier
6. Connect external power supply to CMLIB F. The LED of the CMLIB F has
to be lit.
7. Connect protection relay. See Figure 1-1: Wiring of CMLIB F on page 9.
Do not forget to connect the SPA-Resistors; if you short the phase B_3
(CMA) to N, then no overload is indicated.
8. Switch on the CMC X56 and the CMA 156.
