 Read an article pertaining to math in the real world and answer questions
pertaining to the article
Assessment Plan

Students will read an article on how mathematics is used in crime solving and
respond to questions pertaining to the article.

Materials:
Computer lab with Internet access

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

The teacher will assist students individually during class.

Students who have mastered the material may assist those who have not.

prevention

Discuss, as a class, whether or not students think math can help in crime solving
and prevention
Take students to the lab and introduce them to the blogging website for the class
Have students answer first part of the blog question pertaining to the “Calculating
Crime” article
Show them how to access the article entitled “Calculating Crime” from the Useful
Pages portion of the blog
Read the article together as a class
Have students answer second part of the blog question pertaining to the
“Calculating Crime” article
Require students to submit exit slips on which they will write one way in which
they think math can help with crime prevention/solving. If they don’t think that it
can help, they should give one reason why
Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities
Students will read an article on how mathematics is used in crime solving and
respond to questions pertaining to the article.
