MARITIME COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM FOR

OFFSHORE EXPLOIRATION & PRODUCTION (IHM-ORS)

Improve the performance of all communication systems on offshore

installations such as oilrigs by interconnecting these communication
systems into a single common system.
IHM-ORS provides greater efficiency with respect to internal communication between all groups of personnel, vessels
and rescue services via radio, intercom or telephone subscriptions, since these systems can communicate with each
other directly through the radio switch.
IHM offers top-of-the-line radio communication systems for quality-conscious organisations and companies. IHM-ORS
is the communications gateway between operators, team managers, fire and rescue personnel, supply vessels,
personnel and helicopters on offshore installations.

Essential offshore communication

The internal communication between personnel, transport facilities and rescue services is an essential part of todays
logistics and safety at offshore platforms.
IHM-ORS offers integration of communication between all parties on offshore installations, as the system enables
operators at the control centres to maintain control of radio communication with the possibility of combining this
with intercom and telephone communication systems.
Radio communication can be combined with telephone communication by patching
telephone calls to radio channels and vice versa.
Furthermore, the system provides the option of individual use,
e.g. portable radio handsets to initiate announcements directly into
the PA/GA (Public Address and General Alarm) system by entering
a special access code.

The IHM-ORS communication software application is tailored to meet the

communication control requirements essential for communication within Offshore Radio
Systems.
The standard communications package provides VHF/UHF voice communication for
internal communication between the onboard personnel and the administration
operational control centre on the offshore installation.
At the same time, ORS can be equipped with additional radios providing operators with
the ability to communicate using maritime communication channels, e.g.
communication to supply vessels, as well as the ability to re-communicate through
aeronautical communication channels, e.g. to helicopters.
An interlink between the onboard as well as to the onshore telephone network can
make up part of the system. Furthermore, telephone conversations to or from telephone
subscribers either onboard or onshore can be handled by the operators.

Typical user interface

Telephone calls, incoming as well as outgoing, can be transferred from one operator to
other operators (transfer facility) or patched through a radio connection to the vessel for
which the incoming call is intended (telephone patch facility).

The system can be equipped with an option for operators and radio subscribers to make
announcements that are routed through the onboard PA/GA System.

Each of the above facilities can be taken care of by all or a limited number of operators
in the control centre.

Set-up of the operators tasks (control of radio and/or telephone lines) can either be
performed locally on the operators terminal by authorized personnel, or remotely by a
supervisor.

The communications switch hardware is based on the COM4500MCS

Maritime Communications Switch a modular-designed switch providing
the gateway interconnect functionality to

operator terminals (local as well as remote),

radio base stations (local as well as remote) and
telephone lines (PABX/PSTN) within the system.

The communications switch is controlled by the

IHM-ORS application software.

The COM4500MCS Voice Communications Switch controlled by the IHM-ORS

application software is modular - it can grow with your requirements, from a small,
single site system to a nationwide network including a large number of radio base
stations, telephone lines or operator consoles.
The COM4500MCS provides interconnection possibilities for:
Locally or remotely installed operator terminals interconnected to the switch
through VoIP circuits established through a LAN/WAN or an Internet connection.
Connection to a variety of types (VHF/MF/HF) and brands of radio base stations
which can be installed locally or remotely controlled through VoIP connections
(established through a LAN/WAN or Internet connection), a 4-wire telephone
line, a digital radio link/an optical fibre system or a V-SAT connection.
Telephone gateway facilities making it possible for operators to receive incoming
or initiate outgoing telephone calls.

COM4500MSC, with up to
64 interface connections

The telephone gateway solution provides possibilities for handling calls to the
following types of telephone circuits:
