Excellent burning of Acid Gas Feed and Fuel Gas with
PROSERNAT proprietary burner
Complete destruction of BTX and mercaptans
No sulphur losses in AGE: all sulphur species are routed to SRU
No heating requirement compared to AGE: Low OPEX

The additional fuel gas is supplied

peripherally and injected in the air

The additional fuel gas is often supplied

in the center of the burner and injected in
the acid gas

The acid gas is supplied through a

double impulse acid gas injector

The fuel gas combustion is carried out

under sub-stoechiometric conditions
causing :

Staged combustion which fits with the

Claus combustion / reaction kinetics
First stage : fuel-gas combustion in air

Unburnt HC ,

Second stage : H2S Combustion

38

Direct Oxydation SmartSulf Process

Key Features :
The SmartSulf Catalytic Oxidation process can be applied in:
Single Reactor configuration for a typical 90% sulphur recovery
Two Reactors configuration for a typical 99.5% sulphur recovery
The Gas can be treated at low pressure or up to typically 80 bar
Typical applications are desulfurization of Light Hydrocarbon streams,
biogas, Shale gas, Gasification Gas, with H2S content up to 15% mol.
Because the process is dry, with no hot points, it is particularly suitable for
offshore applications on barge or platforms.
Due to its simplicity the availability proved to be continuously very high (1st
plant operating since 1993)
Low maintenance cost
Very low operating cost
Fully automatic operation

No by-products

39

41

SweetSulf Process
Key Features:
Selective HS removal with direct conversion into solid elemental sulphur

No conversion limitation: very High performances

High pressure filtration: No foaming, no risk of plugging
CAPEX and total costs can be 20 to 50 % lower than for conventional
processes (amine & Claus) for feed

Troubleshooting Activities
Thanks to a very high level of expertise in Sulphur Recovery,
PROSERNAT has many times helped customers to improve
operation of their Sulphur Blocks(Corrosion reduction, Stabilization of
operation, Improvement of control system)
The basis of such troubleshooting activities is:
Site survey by PROSERNAT experts with forced runs of the Units
Analysis and redaction of an operational reports containing
recommendations to improve reliability and operation of the Unit

Examples of current customers for troubleshooting activities :

45

Content of the study

Thanks to a very high level of expertise in Sulphur Recovery,
PROSERNAT has many times helped customers to improve
operation of their Sulphur Blocks (Amine Units, Sour water Stripper
Units, Claus Units, Tail Gas Treatment Units, Sulphur Degassing,
Incineration, Granulation)
The main topics of such studies could be:
Stabilization of operation
Improvement of recovery yield / reduction of emissions
Improvement of Unit availability / On stream factor
Debottlenecking report

Chemical consumption reduction

Catalyst
Corrosion issues review

46

Protocole and benefits

The basis of such troubleshooting activities is:
Study in PROSERNAT offices of the unit design documentation
Site survey by PROSERNAT experts with forced runs of the Units
Analysis and redaction of an operational reports containing
recommendations to improve reliability and operation of the Unit

The main benefits to customers are:

Full diagnostic of your sulphur block by a first class licensor
Clear picture of necessary modification on the Unit
Possibility to contract PROSERNAT for further basic and detail
engineering, as well as procurement activities

47

Example of a recent success

Description of the operating issue
The SRU is installed in a chemical plant receiving large amount of
H2S in batch mode
Typical issues faced in operation where:
High fluctuations of H2S to SO2 ratio linked to a bad control of air inlet
flowrate
Reduced performances with environmental issues
Corrosion of downstream Tail Gas Treatment Unit

In 2010, PROSERNAT had been awarded for the

troubleshooting activities of such SRU with objective to
solve these major operating issues

48

Example of a recent success

The main steps of the study where:
Step 1: Technical audit of the operating SRU on site, with trend
records
Step 2: Redaction of a report with recommendation containing
A new calculation formulae for air inlet flowrate control
Some new specifications for feedstock flowrate control valves.
Other recommendations to solve day to day operating issues (Vibrations,
Instrument blanketing,)

Step 3: Integration of these recommendations by our Client in the

Plant,
Step 4: New site survey which had concluded to the complete
success of these modifications to solve the problem
Step 5: Award of PROSERNAT, with no competition, for the
basic engineering, and detail engineering follow-up of the
debottlenecking of this SRU for environmental performance
increase
