Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of

Orlando this morning! So glad youre here. We worship

together as a church family in four services on Sundays:
Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and
Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45 and 11am. If
youd like to connect and learn more about this church, visit
our Legacy Room adjacent to the Sanctuary, or you can visit
fpco.org/guest.

NEXT STEP
Love the City Beautiful this Week! Did you know we serve
breakfast to the homeless community of Orlando every
Sunday morning? We average 150 people; over 7,000
breakfasts are served a year through a partnership of our
Compassion Corner ministry with Central Care Mission. We
offer a hot meal with coffee and a time of worship together
each week, and there is a spot for you to come and serve
any Sunday. This is also a great opportunity for families to
learn about humble and respectful mission together. To join
in, meet at 6:15am in Lee Fellowship Hall.

THIS WEEK
Join in the fun with us on Sunday mornings! We need 12
adult volunteers to serve as Classroom Guides in our SHINE
Childrens Ministry. Classroom Guides serve every other
Sunday during the school year (September 14May 29). We
will train you to work alongside teachers to share a lesson
and craft with 1st4th grade kiddos. Call SHINE Director
Sarah Savage at 407.423.3441 or email ssavage@fpco.org

NEXT WEEK
Register now for our final Summer Nights & Salads event
of the season. Women Engaged invites you to join us from
68pm on August 12 for a light dinner as we learn more
about taking control of social media together. Christian
counselor Brianne Kaufholz will present How Do You
Manage IT (Social Media) So It Doesnt Manage You? with
suggestions and tips on how to manage the information
technology at our fingertips as well as the mobile devices
that demand our attention. Register online for $15, and bring
a friend! fpco.org/we

NOTES

In each of the weeks this summer weve been working

our way through the order of service talking about the
various aspects of worship. Today were looking at
the portion we simply call pastoral report. One of the
challenges of a larger church is to stay in touch with the
realities of the members daily lives, especially in times
of joy, uncertainty, or sorrow. These brief minutes in
our service give all of us the opportunity to rejoice with
those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. We
can pray for specific people. We can visit those in the
hospital. We can write a note of encouragement or give
someone a call. We can be the hands, feet, and voice
of Jesus as we function as the Body of Christ. You wont
know every person mentioned, but you can pray. These
moments are also a good reminder that those sitting
around us have all kinds of unspoken things going on in
their lives and that we are a community of believers, not
simply a large group of individuals sitting in a sanctuary.
Weve come to worship today, to re-tune our hearts and
our lives to Gods perspective, to commune with Him,
and to uphold our brothers and sisters in the Lord. As
you wait for the service to start (or during the worship),
pray for that person sitting in front of or beside you.

ABOUT COMMUNION
Today we celebrate the sacrament of Communion, also known
as the Lords supper, the story of which is found in Luke 22:719.
We believe in an open table. We invite every believer
who has publicly professed faith in Jesus to join us in this
celebration. We believe by the power of the Holy Spirit, that
the bread and the cup become for us the living presence of
the broken body and shed blood of Jesus. We do not believe
it becomes actual flesh and blood, but the spiritually living
presence of God through the Holy Spirit.
Presbyterian churches do not have altars like other
churches may. We have a table, symbolic of the Great Feast
of Thanksgiving we will one day enjoy with Jesus and the
heavenly host, as illustrated in Matthew 26:29 & Luke 22:1618.
We view the cross of Christ as the final and sufficient altar, on
which the ultimate sacrifice was made.
Suggestions for Celebrating Communion. Before serving the
bread and wine (non-alcoholic grape juice), the pastor will lead
the congregation in a time of prayer. During this time, confess
your sins to God; ways you have violated His commandments;
areas of your life where you are not living by faith; things you do
in an attempt to earn His favor.
While the bread is being served, meditate on what the death
of Jesus means for you; how the sins you confessed were laid
upon Him and paid for with His body. Rejoice that you do not
suffer Gods judgment because Christ suffered this judgment on
your behalf.
While the cup is being served, let it wash away your guilt, much
the way we are washed spiritually by the blood of the Lamb
(Jesus). One day, you will feast with God and all that your heart
desires will be fully satisfied. Take this time to confess specific
things that capture your heart more than God (approval of
others, success, your family, etc.). Rest in His presence.
