STEPS 2-5 STEP 1 Drain pan, remove valve body assembly being careful not to damage solenoids or wiring STEP 2 4 speed units (4F27, J39A, FN4) 5 Speed Units (Ford FNR5/Mazda FSSA-EL) Remove and discard the 1-2 Accumulator Piston, the one closest to the bell housing / case half. Save and note the spring location as they will be reused. See Chart Steps 2-5 for correct positions. STEP 3 Using the Supplied Accumulator Buddy™ Bore Brush, Polish the 1-2 Accumulator Bore until deep scratches and glaze are cleaned and bore is polished. Use brush in bore for approximately 15-30 seconds per cleaning and re-check Until results of a polished bore is achieved. Note: it is not necessary to remove all of the “shadow’ on the bottom of bore as the new piston ring lands sit higher than the galling seen down inside the bore. STEP 4— ALL MODELS 4.45 SPEEDS There are no changes to the N-D Bore / spring set up. Please re-use original piston and springs in this location a8 7 KD XY? For 4 speed units (4F27, J89A, FN4) you will not need the extra piston / rings provided. Discard left over piston and rings and proceed to Step 6. NOTE: If you are using this Kit for servicing the 5 Speed, Units (Ford FNR5/Mazda FS5A-EL). The other piston & ring set will be used in the 4-5 bore Location in the Auxiliary 4-5 valve body as shown in Step 7. STEP 6 — ALL MODELS 4 &5 SPEEDS ‘Separate valve bodies and thoroughly clean both halves and solenoid body. We strongly recommend using the Bench Buddy" Bore Brushes (sold separately). to clean and polish valve bores. Seats nto Spring Shit valve Spring, Replace with White Soft. 11 Coil Spring Supplied \ Deill.055 at Location X Through Passage A to B STEP 12 Shift Solenoid Accumulator “C” Use Original ‘Spring Noting its Direction STEP 13 STEP 7 ‘Thoroughly check and clean all solenoids and screens for debris and or damaged gaskets. We recommend all solenoids be checked for continuity, especially Shitt Solenoid A & B, the OHMS readings should be 11-26 Q at approximately 70 degrees. Fahrenheit at ambient (room) temperature.” STEP 8 In upper body remove Solenoid Pressure Regulator Valve spring and replace with 14 coil (heavier) white spring Supplied and reinstall retainer. Note: Make sure this valve is free and fully stroking. If it hangs or sticks, it will cause low line pressure problems STEPS In lower Main Body remove Solenoid Shift valve spring and Install new white 11 coil spring onto the Solenoid Shift Valve. Reinstall retainer. Make sure valve is free and stroking properly. STEP 10 In lower main body replace spring main pressure regulator spring with dark biue spring supplied. Reinstall original end plug and retainer, checking to make sure spring seats onto nub at the end of the plug. STEP 11 In lower main body Drill thru partition X connecting passage A & 8 with .05S dril bit supplied. Dril from side A to B. STEP 12 Reassemble valve body halves and solenoid body using new gaskets (not supplied). Install shift solenoid accumulator C with original spring, noting its direction STEP 13 For servicing the 5 Speed Units (Ford FNRS/Mazda FSSA-EL). Remove and discard the 4-5 O.£. accumulator piston a seen in Step 7 Fig. 1 and note orientation of springs as you will reuse at their original location and replace the piston with the new one provided installing rings left over from Step 4. Insert new piston followed by the springs and then retainer plate and torque to 9 N.m, oF 80 in. Ibs. STEP 14 Torque valve body halves to 9 N.m or 80 in. Ibs. also making sure that the 2 case to valve body seals are in correct position before mounting body onto case, Connect wiring and temp sensor taking care to avoid pinching wiring. ‘Also make sure main ground harness on valve body is tightened properly. Add pan, ATF and thorough road test.
