MY DREAM OF A CORRUPT FREE NIGERIA

Nigeria is a blessed nation. It is blessed in terms of natural resources. It is

blessed in terms of manpower. It is blessed in terms of size. It is blessed in
terms of art, culture and tourism. If however corruption still rages as it is now,
all these abundances are useless.
Corruption and bribery go hand in hand because they both mean dishonestly
using your power or position to your advantage, especially for money.
Corruption and bribery are common among people in politics and in positions
of authority. In fact has become cankerworms that are eating deep into our
very fabric of the society.
Due to corruption and greed, people desire for power at all costs and if they
attain the position, they divert the money meant for education, food, shelter
and other social amenities luxuries and leave the masses with nothing. They
care about themselves only. They care about their families and relations alone.
Corruption does not allow the resources of a country to be felt by her people.
People wallow in utter poverty even in the midst of plenty. Peoples psyche
had been distorted by the corrupt politicians and leaders. People now worship
corruption as if it is the only way to survival. No one works honestly and
sincerely again. Hard work is no longer a virtue. Honesty is sin. Schools are not
what they are supposed to be. Our hospitals and clinics are mere consulting
centres. As such, nothing works again! No thanks to corruption which is the
bedrock of all these messes.
Is there any hope in sight for us as a nation? My answer is a capital YES! We can
rebounce to glory and prosperity. We can be once more respected as a nation.
I dream of Nigeria as a country that will lead the rest of the black nations to
glory. The Nigeria I dream of is where the abundant resources that we are
blessed with are exploited and utilized for the collective good and interests of
her citizens. I dream of a country where the rich, resourceful and talented
people of this nation are well respected in any part of the world. My dream of
a corrupt free Nigeria is one where her good people will not amass wealth
more than they really need.

The future of a corrupt free Nigeria depends on the generation of today. They
must be prepared for CHANGE. Attitudinal changes are required in all aspects
of our lives. Our value system must change. Corruption and other vices must
be fought to the last. All efforts must be directed towards supporting and
strengthening the body empowered to fight corruption - Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission.
Also, advocacy groups like Project Live Right must not only be joined by all but
must be supported. Project Live Right efforts at informing, educating and
sensitizing the masses on the ills of corruption is a step in the right direction.
The organizations essay competition on corrupt free Nigeria among students
of Nigerian schools is capable of fighting corruption from its base among the
youths. Participating students in the course of their research will surely learn
on the evils of corruption.
When the youths and the public have been properly educated, a new group of
leadership will emerge. This group hopefully will have zero-tolerance for
corruption. When this happens, they will steer the ship of this nation in the
right direction. Nigeria can then feel the good impact of her endowed
resources. Hospitals will be built and provided with well-equipped modern
facilities. Education may even be provided for free.
The corrupt free Nigeria I dream of is where electricity generation and
distribution will be a cardinal priority of people in government. I wish
electricity will be seen as bedrock of development. People will surely be
gainfully employed as industries that had closed down due to power problems
will become operational again.
Efficient and functioning transport systems on air, land and water aid rapid
socio-economic development and prosperity of any nation. Once corruption is
out of our lives, funds will be available to build efficient and modern road
networks and befitting airports as well as functioning rail systems. People of
my country and goods can then be moved in the most efficient manner
possible.
Imagine a Nigeria attaining all these feats just from the elimination of
corruption. I urge all Nigerians to say NO TO CORRUPTION. God bless us!
