PARTS OF THE MOTHERBOARD

This is the central printed circuit board

in many modern computers and holds
many of the crucial components of the
system, providing connectors for other
peripherals. The motherboard is
sometimes alternatively known as the
mainboard or system board.

Personal System /2 (PS/2) mouse port / connector

A green-color type of port developed by IBM for connecting a mouse to
a PC. This PS/2 port is often called the mouse port.

Personal System /2 (PS/2) keyboard port / connector

A purple-color type of port for connecting a keyboard to a PC.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) port

USB is getting more and more popular for external components. If you
have a mouse and a Scanner plugged into USB for example, and you
wanted to play your new game on your USB controller, you could
unplug your Scanner and plug in your game controller.
Serial or Communication (COM) port
The COM port is used for peripherals such as mice and modems,

Ethernet Local AreaNetwork (LAN) port

Alternatively referred to as an Ethernet port, the LAN port is a port
connection that allows a computer to connect to a network using a
wired connection.

Display or Video Graphic Adapter (VGA) connector

Motherboard also has onboard graphics; or built in output for video to
LCD or CRT Monitor

Parallel or Printer port

The parallel port is mainly used for scanners and printers, and is

associated with LPT1.

Multi-media Sound connector
The Sound card that is built into the board has two general connectors,
the green color is for the speaker out while the red color is used for
microphone.
Game port
The Game port is really just a serial port normally found on a sound
card.
