Legal Intern, 2/09 to Present


Hired as a legal intern to assist supervising Assistant State’s Attorney, Whitney Bond, with criminal
appeals. Still presently working 16 hours a week while taking a full class load.

Key Contributions:
• Read and abstract the appellate record to assist the ASA who will argue the case in front of the
Court.

• Research the relevant law on the subject matter at hand.

• Draft appellate briefs that will be submitted to the appellate court.

Selected as a legal intern to assist supervising clinical professor, Richard S. Kling, with criminal defense
cases. Left the organization on excellent terms at the end of the semester to resume a full-time class
schedule.

Key Contributions:
• Researched and wrote legal memoranda in federal and state criminal law cases.

• Interviewed clients in jail to obtain and verify facts of cases.

• Attended numerous court appearances, and made several trips to Chicago area courthouses to file
court documents.

Hired as a summer intern to assist the partners with criminal defense cases and Section 1983 civil rights
cases. Left the firm on excellent terms at the end of the summer to resume a full-time class schedule and to
work at my law school’s criminal defense clinic.

Key Contributions:
• Drafted legal documents, such as: complaints, interrogatories, motions, discovery requests and
responses, and subpoenas.
• Performed legal research on a variety of criminal and Section 1983 cases, and performed client
intake interviews on potential clients with cases involving these subjects.

• Made several trips to Chicago area courthouses to file court documents.

• Consistently commended for legal writing ability in drafting internal memos on Illinois postal
interdiction and DUI law. As a result, selected to be the lead intern on a major civil rights case
involving DUI arrestees.

Promoted from a part-time bank teller position to a full-time position administrating the bank’s online
banking software and business credit card portfolio. Left the company on excellent terms to pursue law
