Position
Description:
Latino
Union
seeks
a
Domestic
Worker
Organizer
to
continue
facilitating
a
sustainable,
impactful,
worker-led
domestic
worker
program
that
builds
power,
organization,
and
resources
for
low-income,
immigrant
women
workers
in
Chicago
and
the
Midwest.
This
is
a
program
specifically
for
domestic
workers,
such
as
caregivers
for
the
elderly,
house
cleaners,
and
nannies,
as
well
as
women
day
laborers
and
other
traditionally
marginalized,
contingent
women
workers.
Responsibilities
Include:
v Continue
the
work
of
the
domestic
worker
program
at
Latino
Union
to
build
power,
leadership,
and
organization
in
support
of
justice
and
dignified
conditions
for
domestic
workers.
v Lead
the
organizing
and
advocacy
work
of
the
Illinois
Domestic
Workers
Bill
of
Rights
v Conduct
outreach
and
recruitment
to
domestic
workers
and
other
contingent,
low-income
immigrant
women
workers
to
grow
participation
and
membership.
v Organize
regular
meetings
and
convenings
to
build
organizing
campaigns
and
initiatives.
v Oversee
the
job
placement
program
and
conduct
workforce
development
trainings
which
serve
as
organizing
tools.
v Spearhead
new
and
develop
existing
collaborations
in
support
of
concrete,
effective
initiatives
that
support
low-income
immigrant
women
workers.
v Participate
in
meetings
and
phone
conferences
with
the
National
Domestic
Workers
Alliance.
v Work
with
Latino
Union
staff,
members,
board,
and
volunteers
to
support
broader
campaigns,
programming,
and
coalition
work
in
the
immigrant
worker
rights
movement.
Desired
Qualifications:
v Minimum
of
3
years
experience
with
worker/community
organizing;
domestic
workers
or
low-
income,
immigrant
women
workers;
or
participatory,
culturally
relevant,
community-led
programming
v Experience
in
basebuilding
and
mobilization
v Excellent
communication
skills,
oral
and
written
v Demonstrated
commitment
to
social/economic
justice
v Excellent
organization
and
coordination
skills
v Self
motivated
proven
ability
to
work
independently
v Ability
to
work
well
with
diverse
communities
v Program
development
and/or
legislative
experience
a
plus
v Experience
working
as
domestic
worker
desired
