Currently i am designing a 12 storey complete shear walled building i.e. no beams or columns but
only walls. when i tried using plate elements STTAD wouldnt simply accept data saying too much
volume. Further on i tried with SURFACE elements in STAAD PRO & now the data is within
programme limit... my problem is i want to add some beam column frame work too.... if i do this
the STAAD is giving error as "unable to generate surface" i traced this error to only those surfaces
which are supposed to have beam to surface connections i.e wherever i put beams the adjacent
surface is not getting generated....how to make the SUFACE TO BEAM connectionsm in STAAD?...
i have tried meshing the surfaces manually also but the error still persists... pls help
i am attaching a STD file here

try by deleting surface. Add beam first and then surface. U need to break the beam as per the no
of elements

Can u please send a 3D rendered screenshot of the building for better understanding.
Because it is difficult to realize.

i have done exactly that i.e first beams then surfaces and then breaking the beam into connected
nodes ( though not recommended as it add to rigidity of wall restricting the wall to deform as in
the FEM book by R.D. Cook)... still the problem persists .... further problem does not end only to
beam surface connection... how to ensure surface to suface connection i.e how to ensure
connection modelling of in T shaped wall...
if i opt for plate insted of surface... the 12 sotried building renders the error as "RUNNING OUT
OF MEMORY" and it just terminates the programme... i have tried modelling in SAP 2000 v
14.1(2005) which gives exactly same error regarding memory as staad...
