SC 53 TM
Device description:
Then, after a segment test, the device shows you the temperature last
measured. When the device emits a double deep the SC 53 TM is ready to
measure. Apply the device to your temple, press the On/Off button (0/I) and rub
the sensor gently across your temple. A beep sounds after 2 to 3 seconds, and
the measurement is complete. The sensor should be continuously applied to
the skin during the measurement.
4. Measuring the body temperature in the ear
Pull off the cap for measuring the temple temperature. Press the On/Off button
(0/I) and keep it pressed down, guide the sensor into the auditory canal and
then release the On/Off button. After 2 to 3 seconds, a beep signals the end of
the measurement. When inserting the thermometer, you should pull your ear
lobe slightly to the rear in order to straighten out the natural curve of the
auditory canal.
Please note that the measured values at the temple and in the ear are
seldom the same. This is due to the differences in heat emission in the
human body. The surface temperature on the temple is always slightly
lower than that in the ear.
Safety information:
The thermometer contains small parts (batteries etc) which can be
swallowed by small children and are therefore highly dangerous. Please
keep the batteries and the thermometer out of the reach of small children. If
the battery or another part is swallowed, you must seek medical help
immediately.
The battery supplied may not be recharged or reactivated by other methods,
and may not be taken apart, thrown into fires or short-circuited. Batteries
must be disposed of properly. Battery disposal containers are provided in all
shops selling batteries in addition to communal waste collection points.
Protect the SC 53 TM from sunlight, temperatures over 50 C and from
penetrating water.
Do not drop the SC 53 TM, and only open it to replace batteries.
Instruction manual:
1. Setting the time
Place the SC 53 TM on a solid base (table) so that the back is facing upwards.
Using a matchstick, press the battery compartment lock approx. 1 mm into the
device housing and then remove the battery compartment cover. A button is
now visible. Press this button once, and the hour display flashes. You can now
set the hour using the On/Off button (0/I). Press the button in the battery
compartment again and the minute display flashes. You can now set the minute
using the On/Off button (0/I). Press the button in the battery compartment again
and the setting procedure is complete. The device is now switched to standby
and shows the time and the surrounding temperature.
2. Storing the SC 53 TM
After you have set the time, place the device in the receptacle supplied. Now
you have an attractive clock with thermometer.
3. Measuring the body temperature at the temple
Remove the device from the receptacle, and press the On/Off button (0/I).

Please note:
Normal thermometers "feel" the temperature of the object to be measured by
contact. The SC 53 TM works on the basis of infrared and "sees" the
temperature. The SC 53 TM's "eye" is the sensor. If the sensor is soiled, or the
temple covered in sweat or makeup, the thermometer will not be able to deliver
the correct measured results. High variations in room temperature (window
open) also lead to deviations in temperature measurements.
Correct measured results can only occur in rooms at normal temperatures
and using persons who have been sitting quietly in this room for at least
10 minutes.
Changing the battery: As soon as the
" symbol flashes in the
display, the battery is exhausted and must be replaced. Replace it with a
battery of the same type (CR 2032). Open the battery compartment as
described in Point 1, "Setting the time". Please ensure the battery is inserted
the right way round. You can obtain batteries in watchmaker's or electrical
shops.

Metrological checks:
Checking the measurement accuracy of the SC 53 TM is not normally
necessary. The Medical Product Operation Prescription of 29th June 1998
requires metrological checks to be carried out after 2 years for devices used in
medical practices. If you require a metrological check to be carried out at your
own cost, please send the SC 53 TM to the customer service address in
suitable packaging with the necessary stamps.
Cleaning and disinfection:
The thermometer is not watertight. Please therefore avoid submerging the
device completely in any of the cleaning fluids stated below. Please merely
wipe the SC 53 TM off with a moist cloth containing one of the disinfecting
agents listed below.
