Flier

Description: This project is a black and white flier created to advertise a conference.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): For this porject, I used Adobe Illustrator. First, I decided what my
hierarchy of information was going to be. I determined that the emphasis was going to be Leadership, so I made that the biggest text on the flier and also emphasized the key question that would
call the attention of those seeking a competetive edge in business.
In order to have a clean, professional appearance, I alligned the texts boxes and the picture for a
clean line and also tied it all together by using a common theme of lines of blakc boxes.
Message: The message that this flier sends is that there is a reliable resource availabe for those who
want to gain a competetive edge in business.

Logo

Description: This is a logos project to create a variation of versions of a logo for a particular business.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): To do this project, I decided to make a logo for my dads business. First, I did sketches of the different ways that I could visually communicate the essence of an
animal hospital as well as the Twin Peaks distinction. I picked out 3 color schemes as well that
included blue since I feel like blue gives off a medical feel Then, I put some of those ideas into practice creating 3 digital versions of the logo ideas I had come up with. I used the pen tool to make
the lines for the mountains and the pencil tool to draw the dog and the paw prints. Then, I asked
around to be able to get a good idea of which version people liked best. The people I talked to like
the first one the best (and I like that one the best as well). I took the top version and made a greyscale version as well as a version on a colored background.
Message: The message that I want this logo to communicate is that the clinic is professional and
clean. That they can be trusted with ones animal. But it also has to communicate a medical feel
(hence the blue and the heart beat ups and downs).
Audience: The audience of this logo is those who are looking for a clinic to take their animals to.
Top Thing Learned: The top thing that I learned by doing this project was the importance of being
versatile. Logos should be able to be adapted for whatever situation or backdrop. I learned how to
keep the spirit of the logo while making it adaptive as well.
Color Scheme and Color Names: analagous with blue, teal and indago
Title / Body Font Names & Categories: Title (Veterinary)- Felix Titling, oldstyle serif

Letterhead

Description:This is a letter head and business card project based off of a business that I came up with.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):To make these business cards and letter head, I used Adobe Illustrator. First, I came up with a
business which I decided would be a Tutoring service. I decided on a color scheme after that of red, purple and orange because
they seemed like bright colors that fit in with the theme of Spanish. After that, I decided on my logo by sketching. I came up
with a logo that uses a clock as well as Spanish exclamation points. The clock helps communicate that it is a program that
helps people learn Spanish quickly and on track. Hence on time. After that, I came up with another repeated theme which
was polka dots in the color scheme. And I used those polka-dots as repetition throughout the design. I also left plenty of negative space so that the most important information is readily visible.
Message:The message of this business card is that Spanish doesnt have to be intimidating. It can be fun, and can be learned in
a timely manner.
Audience:The audience of this business card and letter head is people who want help learning Spanish.
Top Thing Learned:The top thing that I learned doing this assignment was not to be so afraid of blank space. The examples
that I was looking at had a lot of negative space, but it helps draw attention to the most important information.
Color scheme and color names: I used an analogous color scheme using violet, red, and brick.

Event Ad
Description:

A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles):
In order to make this flyer, I started out by scanning an image of a a pair of tennis shoes in a sports magazine. I knew that
I wanted to make an ad for a shoe drive, so I tried to make the shoes the focus of the ad. I used editing features in Microsoft
Word to be able to color and add texture to the image of the shoes. After choosing a color I liked, I added the rest of the text in
a color scheme that complemented the orange Shoes (orange because this will call peoples attention as an energetic, exciting
even. I also used repetition by placing two different sets of words at the top and bottom of the page which describe the essence
of the eventeach word being separated by a period for repetition.
Message:
The message that I wanted to communicate with this ad is that there will be a shoe drive that will be worth going to because it is
a good opportunity to contribute to the community.
Audience:
The audience that I am targeting is athletes and service-oriented people in the community. Athletes because they may have a
larger collection and need for Under Armour equipment.
Color scheme and color names:
Split Complementary
Orange, Teal, Indigo
Top Thing Learned:
The top thing I learned was how to use the features in Microsoft Word to be able to manipulate an image.

Montage

Description: This is a spiritual message made as a montage in Photoshop.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing): To make this montage, I started out looking for a message and
images that I wanted to combine. After settling on a scripture from the Testament, I thought of the message that I wanted to
communicate and how my images could do that. I found two of the images by way of an image search, but the main image is
a picture of a partially-done painting that I made about 3 years ago. I put the painting as the background, then used the lasso
tool to cut out the other images with a very gradual edge so that theyd blend into the rest of the image. I chose the color scheme
as a split complementary of yellow, orange, and indigo, so I did some color editing of the images so that they would complete
the color scheme. After That, I put a grey box with a very gradual edge so that the text would be more visible, and I typed the
text incorporating the color scheme from the images.
Message: The message of this montage is that we need to figuratively and literally get down and humble ourselves in order to
truly become great before God. Even Jesus Christ humbled himself before God.
Audience: This message is directed at a Christian audience who will appreciate and reverence the importance of getting to the
Kingdom of God someday.
Top Thing Learned: The top thing that I learned from this activity was how to use the lasso tool to make gradual edges and how
to make non-sharp edges in general so that the images blend together better.
Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: I used filtering when I altered the colors of the original image so that the
other images matched better and also so that the three images followed the same color scheme.
Color scheme and color names: Split complementary color scheme (Yellow, orange, and indigo)

Photodesign

Description: This project was to practice making a flyer in Photoshop, incorporating the color scheme of the photo.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used Photoshop for the entire project. Before starting, I decided on a
theme for my flyer, determining that I was going to make a weed-removal service flyer. So then I decided what my color scheme
was going to need to be. The weeds I found were green and yellow, so I decided on a split complementary color scheme of purple, yellow, and green. After I took the photo, I uploaded it to Photoshop and edited it so that it looked more full and threatening as weeds should. I also incorporated purple into the stems of the dandelions so that it fit with the color scheme. After that,
I inserted my picture into an 8.5 x 11 blank Photoshop page so that I could design the layout, including the three colors (green,
purple, and yellow) in my design and putting the basic, necessary information that the flyer has to communicate.
Message: This flyer communicates how overwhelming lots of weeds can be, and advertises a company that can come take care
of them. I made the colors duller so that the weeds look more threatening and undesirable.
Audience: The audience of this flyer is any house-owner with a weed problem.
Top Thing Learned: The top thing that I learned by doing this project is that it is important to have and follow a color scheme
and that the photo and its surroundings both incorporate that color scheme. At first, I didnt know how to make the weeds
follow a color scheme because yellow and green isnt a color scheme in and of itself. But when I started trying to incorporate the
purple, I feel like it really helped that whole image look and feel better.
Color scheme and color names: I used a split complementary color scheme of green, yellow, and purple (although I used darker, more dulled-down versions of each).
Date and location you took the photo(s): I took this photo on Thursday, the 21st of May, 2015. It was taken in the gutter behind
BYU-I Student housing.
