Brochure
Description: Duplex folding print brochure.
Program Used: Adobe Illustrator and Indesign
Date: July 12, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Demonstrate proficient understanding of
tools and basics of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, impliment plans to print the document and fold it while in
the computer, and print and fold into professional looking brochure.
Process: After deciding to go with a gate-fold, I conceptualized the layout. For the measurements of the folds,
I simply took a regular sheet of paper, folded it, and
measured the needed distances.
This design is based on balance, repetition, contrast,
and flow. The black and white provide the contrast, and
there is a balance of objects, shapes, and text formats
from the bottom left of the inside to the top right.
The inside logo was created in Adobe Illustrator. It was
quite a simple edit, but simplicity was my goal.

Montage
Description: An inspirational montage demonstrating
basic photoshop techniques.
Program Used: Adobe Photoshop
Date: May 31, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Demonstrate masking and blending of at
least two images.
Process:
I pulled the background in and set it to 8.5x11in. Then
I added all the text in a hierarchical pattern, leaving
space where I wanted the new image to go. From a
separate image, I cut out the subjects head with a 100
pixel feather and layered it over the background.
I set the opacity of the new layer to 86%.
After creating a mask over the new layer, I used the
black paintbrush and blended the new layer photo over
the background so it appears to fade smoothly into the
layer beneath.

Flyer
Description: Black and white promotional flier for a
leadership conference.
Program Used: Adobe InDesign
Date: May 10, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Apply basic design principles in InDesign and
proper use of typography.
Process: I created a few sketches of what the flyer
might look like. Then I took the most visually pleasing
one and created a draft in the software. I chose to use
boxes, ranging in grayscale, to achieve contrast, while
allowing for white space between each of them. The
top left box is black, with white text, the purpose of
which attracts the eyes to the title, which is the main
focal point. Traveling down, the boxes get lighter. This
achieves rhythm, and the logo in the bottom right allows for balance with the title. Additionally, vertical
and horizontal asymmetry adds variation to the design.

Event Ad
Description: This is a fictional event ad for a fundraiser
that benefits the Grand Teton National Park.
Program Used: Adobe InDesign
Date: May 16, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Impliment alignment into a visually
appealing event ad.
Process: First, I chose the picture in the background
because I thought it would provide a good majestic feel,
but also because its got some good asymmetry with the
three peaks providing application of the rule of thirds.
All the text is aligned with some other section of text.
The purpose is to help others contribute to preserving
the beauty and function of nature.

Business Card
Description: Business card with similar design elements.
Program Used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: June 13, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Create multiple logos for the same business.
Process: For this design, I decided to keep things simple. I knew I wanted tto do something related to construction, so I set yellow as the background color of the
business card. For high contrast and to continue with
the goal of simplicity, the tractor was colored black,
as if silhouetted. To create the tractor, I used various
pre-made shapes, and I created a few additional shapes
from scratch with the pen tool. This was all done in
Adobe Illustrator.
For the font, I wanted something bold and simple; nothing too flashy. To finish off the design, I added a few
bars in the margins of the card to add balance and unity.

Letterhead
Description: Letterhead with similar design elements
as the business card.
Program Used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: June 13, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Create letterhead that matches the design
elements of the business card project.
Process: This project came after the business cards creation. Its design, therefore, was simple, as all the logos
and colors were already picked out. The difficult part
was implimanting balance. Through adding contact
informationv, the small logo at the top and a yellow bar
at the bottom, and black outlines, I believe I acheived
the balance I was looking for.

Web Page
Description: Simple web page designed to showcase
the logo I created.
Program Used: Textwrangler & Photoshop
Date: June 28, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Exhibit basic understanding of HTML and
CSS.
Process: Having never dealt with HTML or CSS before,
this project was a challenge. I did, however, enjoy it
because I learned a lot about how basic websites work.
Following tutorials from http://www.w3.org, I gained
the necessary basic skills to manipulate an html page
through CSS.

Photodesign
Description: Practice photography skills and then show
basic image editing and creative skills in Adobe
Photoshop and Illustrator.
Program Used: Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator.
Date: May 24, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Impliment alignment into a visually
appealing event ad.
Process: First, I chose the picture in the background
because I thought it would provide a good majestic feel,
but also because its got some good asymmetry with the
three peaks providing application of the rule of thirds.
All the text is aligned with some other section of text.

Logos
Description: Logos for a fictional business.
Program Used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: June 8, 2015
Course: Visual Design
Objective: Create multiple logos for the same business.
Process: I began by creating many sketches of potential
logo designs. I struggled with what type of company I
was going for, and finally decided on an outdoor tour
company, which provides tour guides for people wanting to explore the Grand Teton area. I used the pen tool
to create an arrow and a semi-round background for my
main logo. I had a lot of fun manipulating the shapes
and arriving at a design I was happy with.
