Brochure

Description:
ModCloth is a quirky and bright online store with
great values and fun ways to create a diverse and
loving community. To create a brochure for them it
needs to reflect the kind of atmosphere they bring
to online shopping: fun and unique.
Programs:
InDesign and Illustrator.
Date:
July 12, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Using InDesign can help with layout and figuring
out unique ways to use a piece of paper.
Process:
I first created a logo and thought about different
aspects of ModCloths business. I thought of the
audience, vintage-seeking women with different
personalities. Fortune-tellers, paper objects many
kids make, create nostalgia, and I thought thatd
be perfect. After creating a mock-up I started
designing in InDesign and it was pretty much just
trial and error. I printed about three times till I got
it how it ended up.

Event Ad

Description:
Created to show skills just using Word/Pages and
scanning. This is an event ad for the women in a
neighborhood, a meet and greet.
Programs:
Pages.
Date:
May 16, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Show that designing can be done in other
programs than Adobe and that it can look good
and show design principles.
Process:
First I scanned the center image and messed
around with ideas and shapes. I created the
Curvature of the title by hand. It was pretty much
just trial and error and a structure of what I wanted
the end result to look like. Using the same color
scheme of the photo it created cohesion. There is
a clear order of appearance and its easy to read,
not from a long distance though.

Resume

Description:
It is a universal truth that in order to get a job, you
need a resume. Just kidding, but resumes are
imporant. Not every employer needs to see a
resume, but its helpful and always smart to have
one.
Programs:
Illustrator and InDesign.
Date:
July 14, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Ive always had bland, unorignal resumes, and it
always bugs me. So, I thought itd be a good idea
to create a resume that Id actually want to show
and one that reflects want I want to do with the rest
of my career.
Process:
I looked for inspiration and found a layout similar
to this. I was immediatly drawn to it so I decided
thats what Id get inspired from. I created the icons
with Illustrator and the rest was done in InDesign.
It was fairly simple using these Adobe progams to
get the desired effect. Simple, lots of white space
and eye-catching.

Montage

Description:
Montage depicting a deep, dark but inspiring
message.
Programs:
Photoshop.
Date:
May 29, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
To show skills in Photoshop with blending to
create a montage.
Process:
Inspiration was the first thing I did, look for a sort
of quote, and as soon as I saw, the only person
stopping you is you a picture of silhouette
popped into my head. Even though a lot of my
designs show off a quirky, cute personality, I really
wanted this montage to be deep. After finding
two images that displayed the message I wanted
to portray, I took them into Photoshop and
blended them together and added the phrase.

Logo

Description:
The Pi Shoppe is a business dedicated to the
Consumption of pie. The idea for this business
came to me in high school, when I first started
making pie as a hobby.
Programs:
Illustrator.
Date:
June 6, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
To show ability in creating simple, unique and
meaningful logos.
Process:
I created countless logos in Illustrator before I
came up with this particular design. I just messed
around how to incorporate pie and the pi symbol.
The reason for that is because on the pies I bake I
cut the vent hole into the pi symbol, so I used that
as inspiration.

Web Page
Description:
In order to show off designs and information, its
good to know HTML and CSS. This web page
highlights The Pi Shoppe logo.
Programs:
Text-Wrangler, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Date:
June 27, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Learn how to set up web pages using HTML and
coding.
Process:
After writing and organizing the body paragraphs,
I created the title, which incorporates the logo in
Illustrator. After using CSS to customize the page
I took photographs of a pie I made, Razzleberry,
touched them up a bit in Photoshop and created
another web page that was linked to the other.
This took a lot of trial and error and fixing little
adjustments.

Business Card

Description:
The Pi Shoppe, for this specific project on
stationery, needed a business card.
Programs:
InDesign and Illustrator.
Date:
June 14, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.

Objectives:
Show skill in creating a unique and interesting
business card.
Process:
Originally this wasnt a landscape business card,
but portrait. I first created the icons used on the
back side of the card in Illustrator and designed a
layout in InDesign. I decided that the edge of the
business card could follow the same curvature of
the edge of the logo and entered in information
and made
typography choices.

Letterhead

Description:
The Pi Shoppe is a small bakery dedicated to pies.
I was instructed to design stationery for one of the
logos we had created, that is the purpose of this
letterhead.
Programs:
InDesign and Illustrator.
Date:
June 14, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.

Objectives:
In order to show my ability in stationery, I created a
simple, monochromatic front page letterhead.
Process:
First I edited the logo a bit so I could have a
different version for the watermark and the top
piece. Then I messed around with a first options
and decided to go with a bold border look instead
and align the address and information with the
logo.

Flier

Description:
Flier created for a graduate leadership conference.
Sharing important information.
Programs:
InDesign.
Date:
May 8, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Using information, logo, and photographs given
to you, create a flier to inform the audience.
Process:
After sketching a few ideas, and trying to
incorporate them in InDesign. I decided to create
a bold hierarchy and put the most important
information in the center. In order to keep it
organized I put the photograph on the top and
the rest of the information on the bottom where
the logo was placed.

Photo Design
Description:
To show off the photography I have taken I
created an ad for the Las Vegas Botanical Garden.
Programs:
Photoshop and InDesign.
Date:
May 21, 2015
Course & Instructor:
COMM 130, Section 7; Joel Judkins.
Objectives:
Learn helpful Photoshop skills to create ad.
Process:
After taking photographs I came up with this idea
to create an ad for a spring time event. After
putting the images into shapes and arranging
both the images and text I changed the color
scheme and rearranged a few things. This was a
valuable project because I learned a lot about
photography and organizing.
