Overview:
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technology has nowadays become part and parcel of a design activity
in a range of sectors including product design, interior design, architecture, production layout, just to mention
but a few. One of the most widely used commercial CAD package is Autodesk AutoCAD. With this software
package one can create two-dimensional (2D) drawings and rendered three-dimensional (3D) virtual models.
Another technology which is being widely used is Rapid Prototyping (RP) which generates physical
prototypes directly from CAD data. Imagine that you can hold a physical model in your hands just a few
hours or even minutes, after you created a 3D CAD model of your design idea in CAD! This 60 hours course
offers the basic training required to generate 2D drawings 3D virtual models using AutoCAD.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
Get acquainted with the graphical user interface of AutoCAD
Understand and apply the basic 2D drawing and modify commands in AutoCAD
Apply different selection methods and tools
Understand how to manipulate 2D and 3D objects
Understand how to annotate a 2D drawing with dimensions, text etc.
Create layers and blocks
Create 3D models by applying the relevant AutoCAD functions
Acquire knowledge on how to exchange drawings and 3D models using neutral file
formats

Now a day a manual drafting is obsolete in industry. Computers being the inevitable part in an
engineers life due to its inbuilt characteristics which helps him to do various task with acceleration. Using
computers and CAD software it is easy to create and modify drawings ultimately it saves time. It also may be
useful to generate assembly and manufacturing drawings. In mechanical industry operating skills are required
for computer aided drafting operations of machine components, handling of printers & plotters. This subject is
also useful to apply concepts in 3 D modeling.
General Objectives:
Students will be able to
1) Draw, edit and modify 2D drawings.
2) Give dimensions, tolerances and geometrical tolerances.
3) Draw Isometric drawing and 3 D drawing.

Figure ME8-2
2. Plate
Complete the drawing of the
plate in Figure ME8-2. Use
the Line command and begin
at point 2,2. The center of the
4.50 diameter Circle is
obtained by calculating the
distance starting at 2,2. (For
example, the X value would
be 2 + 1 + 2.5 = 5.5 and the Y
value would be 2+1+1.5 =
4.5.) Add the additional
Circles using the same
method. SaveAs CH8EX2-M.
Complete the drawing of the hinge bracket in Figure ME8-3. It may be helpful to draw some
construction lines in order to position the Arcs correctly. Erase the construction lines when the
Arcs are complete. The outer two object lines are drawn using the OSNAP Tangent option from
the large Circle on the right to the outer Arc on the left. SaveAs CH8EX3-M.
