Materials:
Activities:

Describe different objects based on their characteristics (e.g. Shape, Weight, Volume, Ease of flow)
(S3MT-Ia-b-1)
Classify objects and materials as solid, liquid, and gas based on some observable characteristics (S3MT-Ic-d-2)
Characteristics of Solids According to Texture
1. Name solids of different textures
2. Group different solids based on their texture
3. Describe different solids based on texture
4. Participate in group activities
K to 12 Learners Material pp. 6-7
K to 12 Teachers Guide pp. 10-12
Different solids ( sponge, wooden stick, sandpaper, cardboard, plastic cup, others )

Priming
Game
Ask the pupils to go on a walk around their classroom and let them touch various objects. Ask the pupils to
describe the texture. (The descriptions could be hard, soft, rough, smooth.)
Activity
Activity Sheet 5: Texture Hunt
Analysis
(must be guided by the checklist made from Activity 5)

Assessment

Abstraction
Do solids have textures? What are the different textures of solids?
Solids have different textures. They can be categorized as smooth, rough, hard and soft.
Application
How can classifying the texture of objects help you in your daily life activities?
Closure
1. Can you describe the solids by touching/ feeling?
2. Are solids of the same texture? different textures?
3. What characteristic of solids was shown in the activity?
( Textures of solids are determined by touching/ feeling them. Solids have the same or different textures )
Ask the pupils to group the materials according to their texture. Write the name of the solid in the proper box.
plastic
cup
drinking

What solids in the room are smooth, rough, soft or hard? Will you name them?
How many solids did you hunt? Can you describe the solids?
Can you describe the solids as hard or soft, rough or smooth?
How can you tell?
What characteristic of solids was shown in the activity?
Are the solids of the same texture? different textures? Can you give examples?
