I love the above affirmation by Louise Hay. A beautiful print of that

affirmation is on my desk and serves as a sacred reminder that
when I allow myself to be still the answers I seek are always within
reach.
Learning to tune into and trust my intuition, soul guidance, soul

Ive given myself since beginning my spiritual journey twenty four
years ago this spring.
In the beginning it felt like a clumsy dance between my ego and
my heart, my fears and my guidance until I learned to trust the
inner voice of love. As I did I found my sacred rhythm and my
dance with life became more flowing, joyful and creative.

Boni Lonnsburry
INTERVIEW WITH

Conscious Creation Expert and Award-winning Author

Aspire Magazine is honored to introduce you to our Conscious Creation Expert Columnist
Boni Lonnsburry. Boni is the CEO of Inner Art Inc., an expert on conscious creation, and the
author of the best-selling book, The Map: To Our Responsive Universe, Where Dreams Really
Do Come True!
By applying the Universal Law of Attraction to her own life, Boni transformed poverty, loneliness,
and despair to abundance, love and joy. Her personal journey of self-discovery led Boni to develop
a system that helped turn her dream into a reality both financially and emotionally. After hitting
rock bottom in her forties, Boni spent decades mastering conscious creation and now she shares
her system of self-discovery in her book, The Map, winner of five national book awards.

Boni has been featured on several local ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox morning news shows like
WDAZ-ABC News; Eyewitness Morning-WWW-CBS; The Morning Blend-KMTV-CBS; IndyStyleWISH-CBS, 3 Plus You-WRCB-NBC; Morning News Live-Fox-8 as well as interviewed for many
print magazines.

22

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

oni, you refer to yourself as

an expert in conscious creation.
What exactly is that and why are
you so passionate about this
topic?
I share the definition of an expert with Niels
Bohr Danish, who was a physicist and Nobel
Prize winner. He said, An expert is a person
who has made all the mistakes that can be
made in a very narrow field. And Im pretty
sure Ive made all the mistakes that can be
made in the field of conscious creation.
Im crazy passionate about conscious
creation because our universe mirrors back
our energy 100% of the time! I cant imagine
anything more exciting! If people learn
how to become conscious of this gift and
direct their energy towards what they want
(instead of towards what they dont), why it
will be a different world.

Is there a difference between

the terms Law of Attraction and
Conscious Creation?
Great question Linda because weve all
heard of the Law of Attraction. According to
this law, like attracts like, and by focusing
on positive or negative thoughts, one can
bring about positive or negative results.
And the Law of Attraction is true. But the
law is, well, a law. It isnt what you DO to
make things manifest in your reality.

But until you learn to create consciously,

you are creating unconsciously. And when
you create unconsciously, its likely that you
arent going to be happy with everything in
your world.
When you consciously create, you learn
to change the things in your world you
dont like. You can literally create wealth,
love, happiness, success, jobs, homes
whatever it is you desire.

Boni, your own conscious creation

story is so inspiring on many
levels. Youve risen from the ashes
to create a life you love. Can you
tell us about that journey?
When I first learned about the law of
attraction, I somehow just knew it was true.
But knowing about it didnt make my life
any better. I didnt know how to consciously
create, and my life showed it. I had dreams
big dreamsbut I hit the ceiling of my beliefs
time after time and ended up disappointed.
At first I wasnt very good at conscious
creating. I created little things but not much
else. What the concept of conscious creation
and my spiritual growth did do, however,
was help me take a long hard look at my
life, and figure out what I wanted, instead
of what other people (and society) wanted
for me.

23

WISDOM & SELF-GROWTH

Conscious creation IS what you do to

make things manifest in your reality. You are
creating your reality 100% of the time, and
you do it absolutely flawlessly. You could
not be a better creator if you tried.

It is not a skill, nor is it a talent to consciously create

a dream come true. It is an art. An art that you may
not be great at, or even good at for a while, but an art
you can practice, learn both skills and technique, and
become not only proficient at, but brilliant at.
I let go of a lot of what I didnt want in my life
before I began to discover what I did want. It
wasnt long after that I began to get the hang
of conscious creation. I worked diligently at
creating my dream. I tackled one area of life,

and then another, and another and another,

until, finally, I had a life I loved.
At my lowest of lows, I found myself on the
verge of bankruptcy and my home was in
foreclosure. I had no money, no job and no
hope. I was desperately trying to succeed
at a multi-level marketing company but
ended up deeper in debt as I maxed out
my credit cards on leads that I couldnt
convert to sales.
That same year my father died, I became
divorced from my husband of 16 years
and my sons moved in with him only to
have him immediately move them across
the country. I lived in constant fear and
despair.
And one day, I had had enough. I was
sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.
I decided no one was in charge of my
emotions but me, and I chose happiness.
That choice reset my emotions and
suddenly I wasnt creating my nightmares
any longer. I started doing techniques
that I now teach others.
Within days I had a job offerjust $10
an hour two days a weekbut it was
movement. And I forced myself to feel
grateful.
Within weeks I had a full time job offer
that paid triple that. And in less than two

24

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

I was having a blast! Next on my list was my

love life. That sure didnt happen overnight.
I kissed a lot of frogsand after each one, I
went back to my beliefs. What inside of me
was creating men who disappointed me?
Belief by belief I uncovered my sabotaging
energy. And I kept dreaming of what I did
want. Sure enough, Richard (my husband)
showed up eight years ago. And even then I
worked on my beliefs to shift and change our
relationship to make it better and better.
My life currently feels like a fairy tale. And it
wasnt luckit was quite consciously created.

Boni, do you think anyone can

create anything?
Yes, I do. This three dimensional world we
live in isnt real. Its an illusion.
To think you cant create it all is like saying,
I have a stretched canvas, brushes and
paint, but I can only paint a few things.
There are no limits as to what you could
paint. And there are no limits as to what you
can create.
It is not a skill, nor is it a talent to consciously
create a dream come true. It is an art. An art
that you may not be great at, or even good
at for a while, but an art you can practice,
learn both skills and technique, and become
not only proficient at, but brilliant at.

In your opinion, is conscious

creation easy?
Conscious creation is very easybut it is
complex. Everyone is already an expert
creator, whether they know it or not. The law
of attraction isnt a choiceit is the way our
universe works.
The challenge is learning how to create
consciously. And because of time lag (the
gap between when you have thoughts and
feelings and when you receive the result),
it often seems as if events are random. But
theyre not. You are creating everything.
Moving from creating unconsciously to
creating consciously does take some work
but it is doableand it can be so much fun!

Do you have a favorite technique

that you use to create your reality?
My favorite technique,
one that Ive used
time and time again
to transform my own
life, is called the One
Minute Manifestor.
Everyone can find
60 second blocks
of time throughout the
day to focus their energy on what they wish
to create. The One Minute Manifestor will
assist you in focusing powerful, laser-like
energy towards your dream in under 60
seconds! Its powerful, fun, easy and takes
under 60 seconds to complete. Its available
as an MP3 download on my website for
those who want to learn how.

INTEND TO BE A COMPLAINT
FREE ZONE:

What does this mean? This means that

you actively become aware of how you
communicate. Each time you find yourself
gossiping or complaining, catch yourself.
Remind yourself use kinder more positive
language. The goal here is to go 21 days
without complaining! Think you can do it? I
challenge you to try it. Its very empowering.
Most people are amazed at how much
they complain. A complaint or gossiping is
negative energy that is mirrored back to
your self-esteem.

FORGIVE YOURSELF:

Remember that the

past is the past, and

the present moment
is your point of power.
When you release
yourself from guilt
about past actions you
free up energy and
boost your self esteem
with the power of
acceptance. Close your eyes, take a deep
breath. Think of a situation that you feel
guilty about. Repeat the following phrase
until you feel the guilt ease. I love you, Im
sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you. Its a
powerful Hawaiian technique created by Dr.

now! Each day, write down five new things
that youre grateful for that day. They can
be big or small. What youre doing here is
creating an atmosphere of positive belief
that helps you feel good about yourself and
boost your self-esteem.

ASK FOR POSITIVE

FEEDBACK:

Ask 5 friends or family members to list your

top three strengths. Often times, we cant

29

see our own strengths clearly, we simply

take them for granted. By having others
point them out to you, you?re able to honor
and celebrate them.

PUT NEGATIVE NELLIE

ON MUTE:

We all have those little voices in our head

chanting negative messages. Negative
Nellie often stops us, blocks us and drains
our self-esteem. Quieting Negative Nellie
is essential to healthy self-esteem. Close
your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine
a radio control, the volume is turned all the
way up, you can hear the loud chattering of
Negative Nellie, imagine reaching forward
and turning the dial quieting the voice
of Negative Nellie. Now, turn that dial all
the way to zero and push the button off.
Imagine your Negative Nellie scampering
away because it has no way to voice its
negative beliefs. In the silence, experience
the freedom from all the chattering in your
mind. Savor this feeling; know that you can
turn the volume down anytime you wish.

BREATHE:

Place your hand on your heart and imagine

your breath literally coming in and out through
your heart center. Breathe in a warm, nurturing
hug of self love and exhale any blame, faults,
and frustrations. Repeat until you find yourself
breathing in love, and breathing out love.

By actively and
consistently
appreciating the
beauty that surrounds
you, you shift your
focus to seeing the
good in life.

CONNECT WITH NATURE:

By actively and consistently appreciating the

beauty that surrounds you, you shift your
focus to seeing the good in life. Connecting
with nature allows you to tap into the peace
and magnificence that silently surrounds
you at all times.

THE ESSENCE OF ME:

Each day, write down 3 great things about

yourself. They can be anything: a smile you
gave the checkout clerk at the grocery store;
the way you tended to your childs skinned
knee; your pretty toenails; anything that
makes you feel good about yourself. This
celebrates the essence of you and boosts
your self-esteem.

INFUSE YOURSELF WITH

CONFIDENCE:

Imagine a situation (real or imagined)

where you were in your most confident, self
assured state. Breathe in that feeling, letting
the feeling flow through you. Keep breathing
in the feeling, allowing it to move through
every cell of your body. Now, squeeze your
pinky finger and thumb as you take one
more breath, allowing the body to absorb
the feeling and anchoring that feeling in your
body by squeezing your pinky and thumb.
Release your fingers take another deep
breath. Next time you need a quick dose
of self-confidence squeeze your pinky and
thumb together and allow the feeling wash
over you again.

10

CELEBRATE YOUR WINS:

Make a list of 25 achievements youve

made, big and small. Anything goes; if you
felt a sense of accomplishment add it to
the list. Things like graduating high school,
creating a blog, landing a job, speaking up
to Aunt Helen, giving birth to your children.
Keep this list in a visible spot and continued
to add to it, read over it, and acknowledge
what it took to accomplish these things.
Value yourself and the beautiful soul that
you are.
As you begin to apply these techniques in
your daily life, you will notice a huge shift in
your energetic vibration. People will respond
differently to you. New opportunities will appear.
New doors will open. Old doors will close. New
ideas and inspiration will make themselves
known. Peace will live in your heart.

MAKE WAY FOR THE

BY LISA MARIE ROSATI

n the past I was a compulsive people pleaser my personal vibration and self-esteem
used to vary from moment to moment depending on the incoming compliments and moods of
those around me. I remember feeling downright awful if someone I cared about was sad, mad,
hurt, or in crisis. It seemed like I was putting out fires in someones life every day!
I wanted to fix EVERYTHING for everyone; wanting their happiness at the expense of my own
because I allowed their emotional stuff to take me out of alignment every time. I spent my
twenties and early thirties restoring and decorating a 1780s farmhouse, that I formally named
Bantam Hill Farm on the Gold Coast of Long Island. I owned, bred and did the husbandry
for dogs, cats, parrots, chickens, goats, llamas, turkeys, mini horses, big ass draft horses, a
camel named Joshua and two red kangaroo named Rosie and Daisy total truth.

Queen!

MAKE WAY FOR THE

WISDOM & SELF-GROWTH

There are three archetypal phases that

a womans life is broken up into:

I planted formal gardens and hosted many

lavish backyard parties for one hundred
plus people on our four-acre property. I
cooked farm-to-table meals most nights and
planned gatherings throughout the year;
each time putting together a sophisticated
menu, shopping for and preparing all the
food, drink and dessert selections for twelve
people at a timetrust me when I tell you
that Martha Stewart had nothing on me!
Towards my late thirties, I was still doing all of
those creative Domestic Goddess things
but I noticed a new feeling beginning to
bubble up from deep within me I was
feeling resentful.
WHAT?
I realized that I no longer felt the same
joy in taking care of everyone, being the
consummate hostess and the fixer of
everything I found myself wanting to have
someone do things for ME, take care of ME
- cook dinner for ME!
WHY?
At the time I really didnt understand why
that was, I only knew that something within
me had shifted, and I made the choice to
honor it. I immediately began my journey
of self-discovery and in the process found
my answers.

MAIDEN
Childhood, adolescence,
beginnings,
purity,
virginity, independence,
courage. Each girl begins
life as the young maiden, innocent and
pure of heart.

MOTHER
Motherhood, protection,
fertility, growth, creativity,
sexuality.
She
then
becomes the loving
mother, giving life to another human
being or birth to a business and accepting
the nurturing responsibilities of raising the
young and building a business/career.

CRONE
Old age, keeper of
the mysteries, wisdom,
change, transformation,
death, rebirth, banishing.
Then, in her final phase, a woman
becomes a crone, no longer able to bear
children but possessing infinite wisdom to
pass down to others.

33

This archetypal timeline worked fabulously

for centuries, however these days women
are living to be Centenarians (100+) and
quite frankly, most women of menopausal
age are just not ready to consider themselves
Crones! I mean we still got it going on baby!
Because of this phenomenon, a new
archetype has activated in women The
Queen Archetype.
The Queen emerges roughly between the
ages of 40 and 60 years old. She no longer
wants to mother and nurture others as a
full time job, but instead wants to rule her
kingdom (her life). The Queens children
are older or have flown the nest completely
OR she had birthed a career or business,
its out of the infancy stage and has gained
momentum. She has newfound sovereignty
and it feels GOOD. The Queen begins to go
on vacations with her beloved or girlfriends,
go out to dinner more often, has a ton more
personal freedom and usually questions
what she wants to do with the rest of her life.
This is what happened to me, have you had
a similar experience?
Today, my youngest is thirteen years old,
a middle guy whos almost seventeen and
a daughter getting married in early 2016.
My children can get their own drinks, make
their own sandwiches, heat up their dinner

and wipe their own tooshies. I birthed a

career doing my soul work six years ago it has gained momentum, and my beloved
husband Big Mike and I vacation all over the
globe a few times per year.

WHAT MY

8 Year-Old
TAUGHT ME ABOUT
TUNING INTO MY

Inner Wisdom
I

BY STACEY CURNOW

t wasnt my or Dougs hope or plan for

our son Griffin to skip 4th grade (we were
not ready to be parents to a 5th grader!), but
we quickly realized that he was committed
to his goal, and we supported his decision.
As it happened, the teachers and
administrators at his school were not as
quick to get on board with his decision. In
fact, they opposed it.

GRIFFIN GIBSON AT AGE 8

36

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

They told us it is very rare to promote a

child within the school (there had only been
3 cases in the schools 38-year history, and
the last had happened many years ago),
and there were a lot of reasons for that
mostly related to the fact of a students
chronological age and corresponding
emotional maturity.

But, as we learned in a series of meetings

with the teachers and administrators to
discuss the possibility, there was more.
At one meeting Rene, the director of the
school, lit a candle and asked Griffin to share
a word that would inform our meeting. He
said, Strength. Because I know Im going
to need it to be in the 5th grade next year.
Rene smiled and said, You know, theres
another kind of strength. The strength of
weathering a disappointment and if we
decide that its the best thing for you to
continue into 4th grade, will you be okay
with that?
Without missing a beat Griffin said, Oh,
sure. I deal with disappointment all the time.
At home this morning I was throwing my
favorite ball around and I lost it in the hedge.
I was really upset at first, but then I thought,
Its not a big deal. Im sure Ill find it later.
And I knew it would all work out. It always
does.
Of course, I silently cheered that he has a
well-developed ability to choose acceptance
and faith in the face of an undesirable
circumstance,
and
Rene
seemed
impressed too.
But Rene had more concerns that Griffin
who seemed to succeed so easily, would
never find school easy again, to which
Griffin replied, Thats fine. I dont need it to
be easy. I like to be challenged.

The last thing I

wanted to do was to
undermine his sense of
whats right for him
and supplant it with
our sense of whats
right for him.

WISDOM & SELF-GROWTH

Their program supports the development

of the child in seven different domains
(mental, spiritual, emotional, moral/social,
physical, natural, and creative) in different
ways in different grades, and they didnt
want Griffin to skip a year of that support.

(Again, I silently cheered. And later when

we were alone Griffin asked me, But why
does Rene think its going to be so hard for
me? It still may be easy. I believe he learned
a good lesson about how people will make
assumptions, but that doesnt mean any of
it is true in the moment.)
Finally she worried that Griffin who was
seen as a leader in the 3rd grade would
never be seen as a leader by his classmates
again, given his age (and comparative
immaturity), and his upstart status.
She shared that she had seen this happen
before and believed strongly that Griffins
self-concept would be damaged in the event
that it happened to him.
As you know, I try not to project any
outcomes especially negative ones into
the future, but when a professional educator
I respect said that she feared something my
child wanted to do could damage him, it was
hard for me to dismiss it.

37

DOUG, SPENCER, GRIFFIN AND STACEY

There was even one point in the monthslong decision-making process that one of his
teachers said, I dont understand why Griffin
should be allowed to make this decision. He
has no idea what the consequences of it will
be. As adults, we have the benefit of training
and experience, and we should decide.
And thats when I felt a surge of clarity. No, I
didnt know what the future held for my son.
I dont even believe I can ever know whats
best for him.
But what I wanted most for him then and
still do now! is for him to trust the voice
inside of him that was calling him to do this
thing.
The last thing I wanted to do was to
undermine his sense of whats right for
him and supplant it with our sense of
whats right for him.

38

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

Luckily Griffin was strong enough to hold

the vision for all of us and all of the gloomy
prognostications proved to be unfounded.
Thank goodness Griffin was strong enough
to listen to his inner wisdom about what was
best for him, to move forward in the face of
great resistance, and even to support his
elders as they struggled with their doubts
about what was best for him.
As Ive reflected on the lessons Griffin taught
me in this process, Ive realized that what I
do most in my role as a coach is to help my
clients excavate their inner wisdom.
I say excavate because, for most of us, by
the time weve spent a decade or two as
adults, layers of doubts and fears -- and
even the best intentions of others have
covered up our Inner Wisdom. Getting in
touch with it again can require a pneumatic
drill and a few sticks of dynamite.

But if youre one of those people who needs

to excavate your inner wisdom and trust
your intuition, heres what I suggest you do:

wisdom is available to you,

every moment of every day.

Ask it powerful questions, like What do I

really, really, really want? (Theres magic
in that third really.) Always see every
challenge as an opportunity and ask your
inner wisdom, What is this here to teach
me? Your inner wisdom will respond.

2. Flood yourself with

memories of the times you

were connected to your
inner wisdom.

Most people have had many times in their

lives when they knew what to do and the
urge to act was very strong. But in a lifetime,
those times may seem few and far between,
and when youre under duress, youre likely
to forget them altogether.
So get in a habit of flooding yourself with
those memories so youre more likely to feel
confident in your inner wisdom when you
need it most.
You might have to go all the way back to
childhood to find the memories especially
if youve been in the habit of deferring your
inner wisdom to other peoples wishes for a
long time. But I promise, if you look you will
find them.

into your inner wisdom.

The question you want to ask is, Will saying

YES to this path bring me closer to my best
life? Or will it take me further away? Then
you will FEEL your inner wisdom either light
up (your heart soars) or diminish (your heart
sinks) by the prospect of taking action.

4. Always choose your inner

wisdom above all others.

As you can see from Griffins story, the

people closest to him, who loved him and
cared about him, and wanted the absolute
best for him, wanted something very
different for him than he wanted for himself.
Fortunately he persevered, and his inner
wisdom got to win the day.
You will also learn that only you can know
whats best for you, and you

7 TIPS TO TAP INTO AND

y best friend was a professional

psychic. She made her living at itand she
was good. But by the time I became friends
with her she had given up the profession
that she was so skilled at.
This was bad timing for me. I loved psychics.
From my very first encounter, when a
90-year-old soothsayer told me Id be doing
the work I currently do, I was hooked.
Back then I wanted seers to tell me my life
was going to turn out okaythat I would
become rich, happy, loved and successful.
But my friend gave up being a professional
psychic for that very reason. People came to
her to give them good news, although they
were the creators of their life all along. All
I can read, she told me, is what the most

40

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

It took me a while to see it, but my friend

gave me something far more valuable than
a predictive reading. She taught me how to
trust my inner knowing, my inner wisdom.
Whenever we talked about anythingfrom
the most esoteric conversations to the most
mundaneshe would ask me: What do
you get?
I remember the first time she posed that
question. We were talking about the
possible reasons I was having difficulties
creating money. Suddenly she turned to me
and asked, What do you get?
I was shocked. Im not a psychic, I thought.
Why is she asking me?
And then I thought a bit more about it, Why
not? Maybe I do get things like she does.
And I felt insideand I had an insight:
Its safer for me to be a victim than to be
successful.
Wow! I do get things, I thought.
My friend gave me a beautiful gift that day, and
many days thereaftera gift that has grown
into a solid and trustworthy connection with
my wise inner self. Trusting my inner knowing
has made a huge difference in my life.
It has helped me know when my (conscious)
creations are manifesting and just need
more time, or when they are stalled and
need belief work in order to move forward.

likely manifestation will be. And any person

can change that at willso I didnt think I
was helping by insinuating that their future
was on a fixed course.

It has helped me know when to take action

and when to sit back and allow my magic
to work.
And it has guided me through all of the major
(and many minor) decisions of my life.
My knowing wasnt always accurate
wait, let me rephrase that. I didnt always
listen accurately to my inner knowing. But
eventually I learned to listen accurately.
Trusting my inner knowing has developed,
over time. And you can develop yours too.

SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU

DEVELOP TRUST IN YOUR

Inner Knowing

1. KNOW YOU HAVE IT

That still, small voice is inside every one
of us. It is our connection to the more of
who we are. You can call it intuition, inner
wisdom or your higher self. But it will lie
dormant inside of you until you

41

2. GIVE IT TIME AND

SPACE TO SPEAK
Your inner knowing isnt going to tap you on
the shoulder and insist you listen to it. You
have to make the time and a quiet space for
it to be heard. How?
It doesnt matteras long as you quiet your
mind. You could take long walks in nature
(alone). You could take luxurious baths or do
yoga. You could meditate. You could simply
stare out the window with a cup of tea.
The most important thing is that you make
the time regularly. But in order to know if you
are listening to your wise, inner self, you
must also

3. GIVE YOUR NEGATIVE

SELF EQUAL TIME AND
SPACE TO SPEAK
Your inner voice isnt always your wise self
speaking. There is a part of you that wants
to sabotage you, to keep you small and that
undermines your dreams and growth. I call
that part the negative self and its just as
important to let that part of you speak.
Even five minutes a day of letting your
negative self tell you how screwed up you
are, how none of your dreams will ever come
true, and how you will fail at everything you
attempt, will help you to discern the wise
you from the negative you.
When they are done ranting, simply turn
them over to your higher self to be healed.
You will be amazed at how much lighter you
feel after these sessions. But youll also
want to

42

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

4. GET REALITY CHECKS

Especially in the beginning, it can help to
talk to people you trust about what you are
getting from your inner self. Sometimes
the information can be surprising, and its
great to have others to confirm or deny what
you are sensing.
But remember, this is a process. And youll
want to be careful to.

5. TRUST IT IN LITTLE
WAYS AT FIRST
If your inner knowing says to leave your
marriage and join an ashramdont do it
unless you know you are listening accurately
and it feels right to you. It will take time to
trust your inner guidance. And you practice
that trust by trying it out.

6. REMEMBER WHAT
IT FEELS LIKE WHEN
YOU GET IT
Youll feel it when you connect with the
guidance system within youeither
emotionally or physically, oftentimes both. It
might be a tug in your belly. It might be be
a chill down your spine. Or you might feel
it emotionallya peace or calm may come
over you as you hit upon your inner truth.
When you do experience these telltale
signs that you have connected to your
truth, make note of it, so the next time you
seek your truth youll know when you get it.
And always

7. ASK FOR HELP

You dont have to do this alone. Your higher
self, soul and other unseen friends want
you to connect with your inner wisdom. Call

upon them to help you out. They are always

there for you, but you do have to ask for
them to help. This is a free will universe and
the rules are hands off unless invited.
Developing trust of your inner wisdom is
one of the most valuable things you can do.
When you have it, you move through life with
confidence, solidity and peaceknowing
that you are divinely guided all along the way.

Clear Your Clutter

to Clearly Hear Your

Inner Wisdom
BY LAURA CLARK

o live a life based on our inner desires takes time

to understand them. When we allow life to become so
full and busy that it becomes cluttered it is difficult to
hear and understand what our inner wisdom is telling
us. Our inner wisdom is our truth. It is that which
speaks softly to us of our dreams and desires.
Hearing it and understanding it is imperative to
our well-being. It gives us the courage to live
our lives to the fullest joy possible!
When we control the clutter in our lives then
tuning into your inner wisdom becomes easier
So what is clutter? An easy definition is that
it is an accumulation of things that impede
the flow of energy in our life. It comes in
all shapes and sizes. There is physical
clutter in our homes and our offices
that we can see. This includes things
we dont use or dont love. There
is emotional clutterotherwise
none as our baggagefeelings

44

It is imperative that energy flows freely

around you and within you. When energy
gets stuck, you are unable to hear your
own inner wisdom consistently. It becomes
harder to understand it and certainly then

wisdom. When material objects take up

energetic space, we begin to see that more
clearly. It begins to take up mind-space, and
we allow it to speak to us negatively.
It is by nature that we want pure energy in
our homes. Consider this: Its a beautiful
spring day. You want to allow the fresh air
in to clean the energy of your space! You
open your front door wide and this energy
is greeted by winter coats, boots, scarves
and mittens, in the best-case scenario,
hung on the hooks in the entryway. Often,
though, by the end of the winter they are

It is imperative that energy flows freely

around you and within you. When energy

inner wisdom consistently.
you get lost in the hem and haw of decisionmaking it becomes easy to let day-to-day
life take over!
Clutter stops this energetic flow. If you are
struggling with clutter, you are not alone.
Clutter accumulates in the blink of an eye
in this day and age. Our homes tend to be
larger and we want to fill up each nook and
cranny. Clutter clearing, though, allows the
energy to begin to flow. There is less stuff to
trip over and less stuff to clean.
But, it goes deeper than this. Clutter clearing
can be a catalyst to you tuning into your inner

in disarray in this space. This clutter stops

this beautiful spring energy! You will not get
the full benefits of this wonderful, fresh air
bringing crisp, light energy into your home.
This is a simple scenario of how clutter
affects the flow of energy throughout your
home. Of course, all the other clutter
beyond the front door has the ability to bog
down the energy. It has the ability to make
you feel weighed down and unable to move
as freely as you like. Because you feel
weighed down, your inner wisdom gets shut
down. Clutter actually impedes the ability
to make clear decisions that are aligned for
your best interest.

of hurt and anger not yet resolved. There

is informational clutter, which includes too
much time on social media or listening to
news that decreases the energy within you.
There is even energetic clutter where the air
is so full that energy gets stuck. This kind of
energy is that is held within a home after a
long, cold winter!

Clutter has so many negative effects.

Research has shown that those who live
with clutter in their home actually are more
exhausted, stressed and overwhelmed then
those who dont. Clutter limits you. It creates
disorganization and everything you do takes
longer. From a Feng Shui perspective, when
clutter is in the basement, the foundation of
your life can become faulty and when it is
in the attic, it limits your highest aspirations.
Clutter also exists at work ~ even in a home
office. It makes it difficult to focus and
process information. An excess of things
in your space competes with your attention
and results in decreased productivity.
That is the negative side of clutter. The
opposite is living a life that is free of these
obstacles. The more able you are to clear
the clutter around you, the easier it is to
make decisions based on your own inner
wisdom ~ your truth ~ and thus, you are
able to make the best choices for you and
your loved ones. The more you are able
to remove clutter from your life, the more
you are able to hear your inner wisdom,
understand it and act upon it to step up into
your fullest potential.

46

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

Clearing out clutter is not as difficult as it

may seem. It can be done with simple and
consistent steps. The best way to clear out
the clutter is to start with an intention. If you
want to clean out the clutter so that you can
tune into your inner wisdom with greater
consistency and with greater understanding,
so that you can live your life based on your
inner most desires, then you most likely will.
As you begin the process of clutter clearing,
ask yourself these three questions. Do I love
it? Do I Use it? Do I have a place to keep it?
If you answered yes, to all three of these

Admit to Yourself What You

BY NANCY LEVIN

ithin twenty-four hours of

moving from New York City to Boulder,
Colorado, I met the man who would
become my husband. He was tall,
gorgeous, charming, and sweet, and
he swept me off my feet with a sense of
adventure. Three days later, he spent the
night and he never left. (I was the one
who finally left, more than eighteen years
later).
Before I knew it, I was doing things with
this man that I had never done before
camping, skiing, rock climbing, mountain
biking, and running marathons. I had
thought I would return to New York after
finishing my graduate program in poetry in
Colorado, but it soon became clear that this
city girl was not returning to the city.
My husband couldnt have been more
wrong for me on paper. Lets just say
he was far from the nice Jewish boy from
a good East Coast family I was supposed
to marry. My family and friends were
confused. Why would Nancy choose love
the hard way? But the pull was too great. My
husband embodied most of the qualities that

What Intuition Is
and What it Isnt
BY SIMONE WRIGHT

ollowing are several understandings

about what intuition is and isnt. These
distinctions will assist you in further
demystifying the process and will enable you
to discern the subtle yet powerful differences
between the tone and style of true intuitive
perception and those of past emotional
programming, learned behavior, and
misguided understandings of the intuitive
process. These clarifications will allow you
to amplify and fine-tune your precision
so that your accuracy and outcomes will
become more and more reliable.

Intuition Is Not Based in Emotion

Intuition communicates in a neutral,
unemotional fashion. The most common
misconception about intuition, and why it tends
to get a bad rap, especially in environments
dominated by logical, rational, and, dare I say,
masculine thinking, is the greatly erroneous
contention that intuition is not to be trusted
because it is based in emotion.

50

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

Since intuition is emotionally neutral, there

is no charge of opposites (right/wrong,
fear/love, good/bad). This is because it
stems from the highest level of mind, which
is unchangeable, immovable, indestructible,
and beyond emotion. The emotion tends
to come the moment after you receive
the information, or the hit. As quick as
thought, you become emotional because
the information you perceive triggers
fear, worry, or anxiety, because it requires
you to do something that you may not
feel comfortable doing. Or, conversely, it
triggers emotions of ease, anticipation, or
joy, because the direction is in alignment
with your highest good. The emotion comes
from your response to the intuitive wisdom,
not from the wisdom itself.

Intuition Is Inner Knowing; It Is

Not External Learning
How do you know what you know when you
know it? This was the question I asked a
room full of detectives in the first moments
of a two-day workshop designed to amplify
intuitive intelligence in police officers. I
wanted to get a feel for the room and to see
what they thought was going on when they
got a hunch or an intuitive certainty about
something.
Every one of the detectives admitted to
having many intuitive experiences on and

off the job. Some of them were willing to say

they didnt really know what was involved in
the process, but the majority of them said
they believed their intuitive experiences
were a result of their massive amount of
training and their large number of years
spent in law enforcement.
It is true that while on the job the officers take
action based on impressions they perceive
in the brain and body. But these knowings
should be attributed to the automatic function
of a brain that has studied, practiced, and
experienced something so many times
that the knowledge has been moved from
the conscious part of the brain to the
subconscious, or unconscious, part so the
organ can conserve its energy to continue
to store more information.
It is the brain on autopilot, where operations
take place without conscious intervention.
These unconscious states, while beneath
awareness, are still experienced by our
body as feelings, emotions, and mental
impressions, and they significantly affect
routine actions such as brushing our teeth
and driving to work.
Modern computers and other forms of
technology are designed to operate more
intuitively that is, to operate with greater
creative ease and higher performance.
But like the police detectives, these pieces
of equipment are deeply coded and

programmed so that their performance

seems to appear intuitive. The mind of
the computer has been taught what to do,
and so it does everything it is supposed
to do with seemingly magical skill. This
ability, while interesting or inspiring, is not
intuition. True intuitive intelligence is an
inner knowing, a direct perception of and
processing of information within the inner
dimensions of mind, without access to
previous study, knowledge, or experience. It
is knowing without having to go through the
process of learning.

Intuition Is Life Affirming

Intuition supports life at its highest levels of
evolution and well-being and guides us so
we can grow and thrive despite obstacles,
regardless of how severe they may appear
to our limited perceptions. This truth is
reflected in the power of water to break down
a mountain, a single acorn to produce an
entire forest after a wildfire, or a tiny weed to
crack a slab of concrete wide open so it can
reach for greater light and potential.
Intuitive intelligence is highly energy
efficient, and it guides us to our destiny via
the path of least resistance, right action,
and highest good. It guides us to solutions
that are elegant and natural, that unfold
without force, and that are advantageous
to everyone involved. Intuitive intelligence
understands that life supports life, and that
to benefit one is to benefit the whole.
Intuition operates strictly in the present
moment. It does not respond to past
resentments or worries about the future. Its
creative power lies in the eternal moment
of now, and it uses that point of stillness to
propel itself forward, toward greater evolution.

52

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

You will know you are not connected to the

wisdom of your intuition if
you are upset about the past or worried
about the future;
you hear the words cant, wont, shouldnt,
dont, or what if;
you find yourself needing to control the
details or outcome of a situation; or
you find yourself being critical of yourself,
those around you, or the situation you
are in.
These descriptions of what intuition is or
is not illustrate the positive markers of
intuition at its best. As you further develop
your intuitive practice, I encourage you to
continually check in with yourself to see if
the information you are receiving aligns
with these principles. If it does not, then you
may have more work to do to ensure that
your energetic foundation is what it needs
to be, so that you can properly engage with
the field. If the information you receive is
aligned, then you can go ahead and take
the appropriate action to move toward your
goal.

10 Healthy Mini Changes You

Can Make to Your

DietToday
BY MIA MORAN

ometimes its the little things that

count. Here are some small changes you
may consider adding one at a time to your
current routine. Play with them, see where
they fit in, and decide whether they make a
difference. When a change gives you more
energy or gets you feeling a little better, note
it and stick to it and it will just become part of
your life kind of like brushing your teeth.

DRINK 8 GLASSES OF
WATER A DAY.
Staying hydrated keeps your energy level
high all day! It can also play a big role in
weight loss and disease prevention. Most
of us walk around dehydrated. Figure out a
fun way to drink water add lemon or lime,
find a cool glass and straw that you love, fill
a colorful pitcher or to-go containers so you
always have water near by. Tell your kids
your goal and theyll keep you on track! (And
theyll think about drinking more water too!

HAVE YOUR SANDWICH

OVER LETTUCE.

SIT TO EAT.
So often we eat on the run. This means
we graze all day on things we dont really
want and are always rushed. Make sure to
sit and eat. If you only have 10 minutes this
may mean you eat in the Whole Foods caf,
or you find a park bench. But give yourself
the gift of starting and finishing a meal with
presence. You will feel way more satisfied.

Even if you are someone who thinks she

needs meat, play around with one day a
week that you eat only veggies. Monday is a
great day to choose because it is somewhat
of a phenomenon (the popular Meatless
Monday), so you can know you are not
alone, and find lots of ideas and support on
social media.

READ LABELS.
Read labels of processed and packaged food.
Look for natural ingredients, and avoid those
you dont understand and the many types of
hidden sugars. Have a list of things that you
know are good and stick to those brands.

EMBRACE THE SMOOTHIE.

The smoothie is a powerful
thing! Green smoothies can
get veggies into your body
that you may not normally
make time to eat. Chocolatey
and fruity smoothies made
with nuts instead of dairy and dates instead
of sugar can help curb sugar cravings and
kick dairy habits. (Many women say that
eliminating these two things make a huge
difference in their lives.)

PLAN YOUR WEEK OF FOOD.

Look at your upcoming week for 15 minutes
every Friday. Figure out what you will eat,
when you will be too busy to spend time in the
kitchen, and how you can use the weekend
to make it all feel easier and doable.

55

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Whether you are out and about, or in your

kitchen. If you decide to have a sandwich,
wrap, burrito or burger, eat it over a bed of
greens and skip the bread.

PLAY WITH MEATLESS MONDAY.

MAKE SOMETHING NEW

EACH WEEK.
If you are in an unhealthy rut, make an
effort to make one new thing a week a
new salad, a new dip, a new healthy sweet
treat. If you are in a place you feel pretty
good about, chances are that when things
get busy, you go back to your favorites. Try
making something from a new culture, a
little more involved than your usual, or with
an ingredient you havent played with.
Which doable change will you try first? Write
it on a post-it, and put it in your wallet. The
burrito guy, might look at you kind of funny
when you ask for the stuff on top of salad,
but forget about him, and notice how great
you feel!

MOVE YOUR BODY FOR

10 MINUTES A DAY.
So often when we start an exercise routine,
we start with hour-long classes that take
huge chunks of time and make us so sore
that we cant make it back. Instead, commit
to 10 minutes a day. Maybe you go for a walk
or a run. Maybe you dance or hula hoop with
your kids. Maybe you sneak downstairs and
do yoga in the early hours of the morning.

STOP EATING 3 HOURS BEFORE

YOU GO TO BED.
If you go to bed at 10, eat by 6:30. Then
refrain from late night snacking. A good trick
as youre easing into this routine is to brush
your teeth after dinner it really helps to
cancel post-meal sugar cravings.

hen it comes to health and wellness, we all know that we should eat better,
exercise and not engage in unhealthy behavior like smoking or drinking excessively.
However, few people realize that within us all there is a valuable resource that can provide
strength and wisdom and guide us towards a healthier and happier life. This resource is your
inner guide, and once you know how to tap into it, the effects can be simply astounding.
Our inner guide wears many forms and is understood and experienced in unique and
individual ways. Some call it intuition or a gut feeling. Others describe it as deep physical
knowledge held within the subconscious below the general sense of awareness. Some even
experience it as a sixth sense or second sight, a premonition or clairvoyance. At its most basic,
the inner guide represents our connection to the person within.

57

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Inner Guide for

Health & Wellness
W

This connection is unique for each person

because we are all multifaceted and hold
within us a kaleidoscope of experiences,
sensations, memories, hopes, motivations,
and desires. On a conscious level we are
not always aware of the elements that reside
within, yet they are available if we know how
to summon them.

How to Access Your

Inner Guide
1. Be Aware That It Exists
The first step in accessing your inner spirit
guide is acknowledging that it exists in the
first place. We all have a gut instinct or voice
inside that tells us when something feels
right or out of place. This is not the same
as ego or fear. Your inner voice will always
have your best interests at heart. Be aware
that it is there, and try to listen to what it has
to say.

2. T ap Into Your True

Feelings
Usually, your first instinct or feeling about
a situation or a person will be your true
thoughts and feelings. You may have the
urge to ignore these feelings and overthink
things or make a decision based on your
ego or fears. Go with your first instinct, and
be aware of conflicting emotions and what
the root of those emotions may be.

3. Meditate
Meditation allows you to slow down and
listen to what your body has to say. Try to find
a quiet spot where you can shut out external
distractions, sit in a comfortable position
and concentrate only on your breathing and
heartbeat. Imagine a peaceful spot where
you can meet with your inner guide, and
visualize your inner self. By concentrating
on your current state of being, you can
cultivate a deeper understanding of what
your inner guide is trying to tell you.

4. L ook to Yourself For

Answers
Start asking yourself questions instead of
looking outside for answers or solutions to
the problems in your life. For example, you
may want to ask yourself, How do I truly feel
about this situation?, Can I do anything
about this situation or is it beyond my
control? or What can I do in this situation

58

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

that will result in the best possible outcome

for me and for others around me?

Once you are aware of your inner guide and

what it is trying to tell you, you need to trust
what it is trying to say. Too often, people
already know the answer to a question or
the solution to a problem, yet they ignore
their inner voice and look for outside advice
to deal with it instead. Once you start
trusting in yourself, you will most likely find
that the decisions you make will result in
better outcomes for yourself and for the
other people in your life.
The inner guide exists in all of us and it is
an invaluable tool that we can use to assist
in decision making and attaining greater
self-knowledge. When we access the inner
guide we gain the ability to draw on our
intrinsic wisdom as needed. This wisdom is
vital for healing and nurturing the soul and

HEALTHY LIVING:

Blue Zones
BY SUSUN WEED

iving in a blue zone is healthy living.

Have you ever been to a blue zone? What
is a blue zone?
Blue zones are places where people lead
exceptionally long, happy, and healthy
lives. Five blue zones have been identified
worldwide: Okinawa (Japan); Sardinia
(Italy); Nicoya (Costa Rica); Icaria (Greece);
and Loma Linda, California (Seventh-day
Adventists). I have just returned from the
Nicoya, so I can tell you a few things about
living in a blue zone. (You can join me there
for a Wellness Adventure, January of 2016.)
Healthy living, blue zone healthy living, is
simple and easy. You dont have to go to
Costa Rica or Greece, Japan or Italy, or
even California to live the blue zone way.
But it does require a shift in priorities.
The first thing you will notice in a blue zone
is the people. And not just the old people,
though in some blue zones, one out of

60

family and friends first.
three lives to 90 or older. The people in blue
zones, old and young, engage you. They are
friendly, caring, concerned about strangers,
welcoming, kind, and, most of all, present.
Their eyes twinkle. Their hearts are aglow.
In every blue zone, people and family are
more important than anything else.
Here is one example from my time in the
blue zone. We looked for a goat dairy on the
Nicoya Peninsula, both to satisfy my craving
for goat milk cheese and yogurt and to have
these high quality foods available for the
women attending the Wellness Adventure.
First, the goatman delivered to us, then, we
asked if we could visit. He named a day and
said we needed to be there early as he had
an appointment later. After many miles of
bumpy roads, and fording a large river five
times, we arrived.
The entire family was hard at work tending
to the goats, chickens, and pigs. They all
stopped to greet us with big smiles. They
vied to show us around. After an hour, I
thought we ought to leave, but they would
have none of that. We must come inside
and have coffee or fresh goat milk, and
cheese toast, and home-made pastries.
And talk. And meet each member of the
family and hear about them: the goatman,

Yes, the bread was white bread, and the

shortening was lard, but we were not offered
soda pop, alcohol, or anything to smoke.
These are things you rarely find in blue
zones.
I believe your choice of a daily beverage
is one of the most important aspects
of staying healthy. Tea, whether herbal,
black, or green, wine in moderation, sake,
water, and coffee are the primary drinks of
the blue zones.

Make your kitchen

a blue zone by
welcoming all types
of foods into it.
Make your home a blue zone by offering
nourishing herbal infusions with each meal
and restricting access to sugary drinks,
including fruit juices.
A vegetable-based diet is healthier than
a vegetarian diet. The only meat-free blue
zone is Loma Linda. All the other blue zone
peoples eat some meat, and often a lot of fish.

61

HEALTH & WELLNESS

his wife, and the five children. The time for

his appointment came and went; the man
he was supposed to meet called him on his
cell phone and he replied: Guests. Nothing
more needed be said. When we finally left,
we were full of goat milk and good cheer,
and carrying bags of beans to plant and to
eat. Special beans. Blue zone beans.

Eggs and full-fat dairy products are staples

in blue zone diets, as are beans, which are
often eaten at every meal in some form. If
you have removed any food from your diet,
you are limiting your health and vitality. My
dinner plate consists of a well-cooked green,
a cooked root vegetable, a dark orange or
red vegetable, a whole grain, beans, and a
small amount of meat or a generous serving
of fish or a cheesy vegetable casserole.
During the warm months, there is also a wild
green salad.
Make your dinner table a blue zone by
cooking and eating lots more vegetables.
Make your kitchen a blue zone by welcoming
all types of foods into it.
Make your body a blue zone by eating meat
no more than four times a week and eating
fish four times a week or more.
And make your body a blue zone by moving
more. Constant moderate physical activity is
another key to healthy living and a consistent
in the blue zones. In blue zones the primary
means of travel is often by foot or horseback.

Not only is this great for the body and

superior for the mind, it sets and maintains
a more human pace to activities. Impatience
becomes rare. There is time to engage with
nature and with ones community, another
characteristic of blue zones. People of all
ages are socially integrated and important
in both family and community in blue zones.
Make your neighborhood a blue zone by
walking every day. Take a pretend dog for
a walk if you cant do it just for yourself. I
depend on my Fitbit activity tracker to keep
me moving. My daughter prefers her MisFit
tracker. Dont scoff; trackers work because
you can no longer pretend to be active, you
have to really do it.
And thats the point. You have to make the
choice to live a healthy life and then do it. Not
for a day, but for the rest of your healthy life.
Being healthy is so much work, complains
my gym partner. It is. So we make it fun.
Once a month, after our workout, we go for a
foot massage at the local foot spa. Heaven.
Live in a blue zone of your own making.
You will live a longer, happier, and
healthier life.

Souls Journey

BY MARGARET PAUL, PHD

Most parents want to think that they have more control over
their children than they do. We want to think that if we do it right we can
control the outcome we want for our children. It will make it much easier to let go
of trying to control our children and just be the very best parents we can, when we
understand and accept that they are on their own souls journey.

Your

INNER WISDOM OR FEAR?

Which Are You Listening To?

BY STACEY MARTINO

ve had flashes of inner wisdom during

intense moments of my life. Inner guidance that
came through like a lightning bolt during minutes
of intense fear or risk. I always felt lucky at those
times, like God was with me. It only happened
on a few occasions in my entire life, so I just felt
blessed that in life or death moments, Grace
came in.
Then about two years ago, my spiritual journey
catapulted me to the next level. I started to
learn about the Law of Attraction and the tool
that helped this all click for methe Emotional
Guidance System, from Abraham Hicks. My life
started to change dramatically.
My husband Paul, my greatest spiritual teacher,
showed me how Source was always present and
guiding me to the next right step for me, and,
as Abraham teaches, my Emotional Guidance
System was the navigation system for me to
discern the Inner Wisdom that was available to
me at every moment of my day.

2014 The Emotional Guidance Scale. Ask and It Is Given. Jerry and Esther Hicks (Abraham)

The Emotional Guidance System by Abraham Hicks teaches a scale of 22 Emotions, ranging from positive emotions, such as Gratitude,
Appreciation, Passion, Joy, Love and Optimism to negative emotions such as boredom, pessimism, resentment, anger and despair.
The positive emotions are gathered on the left side of the Emotional Guidance System chart. And the negative emotions are gathered on the
right side of the Emotional Guidance System chart.

I started checking IN with myself more and

testing this tool. I began asking myself, How
do I feel right now? and really honing in my
emotional acuity for myself.
Here is the distinction that I discovered that
changed my life forever
When I check in and see how Im feeling, and
my emotion is on the right side (negative) of
the Emotional Guidance System chart, then

whatever ideas, thoughts or inclinations I

have to act, are NOT coming from Source.
Those thoughts and ideas are not my Inner
Wisdom, instead they are coming from my
brain and are driven by my own fear and
ego (to protect me from some pain). I have
learned not to listen to my own self-talk
when I am on the right side of the Emotional
Guidance System. That is NOT Inner
Wisdom; on the contrary, it is scared, fearbased self-talk.

Faith is taking the first step, even when you dont

see the whole staircase.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I check in with myself and Im feeling

one of the emotions on the left side of
the Emotional Guidance System chart,
then I have faith that my ideas, thoughts,
inclinations and beliefs are guided by
Source. Said differently, Im receiving Inner
Wisdom. In those moments, I have faith in
my thoughts, beliefs and downloads and act
accordingly.in spite of any fear!
With practice, using this as my MAP, over
and over again, I started to find certainty in
listening to my Inner Wisdom.
Today, this is how I walk through life: listening
to my Inner Wisdom and understanding the
difference between Inner Wisdom and fear
based self-talk.

next step based on the guidance I receive.

As for the future, I also have faith that I will
be guided again by my Inner Wisdom when
I get there.
One of my favorite quotes of all time, (its
painted on my wall next to me) is by Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr
Faith is taking the first step, even when you
dont see the whole staircase.
It is FAITH. And by using my Emotional
Guidance System, I have learned my
strategic approach to figuring out what the
FIRST STEP on the staircase should be for
me every time!

But you dont need to GUESS at what to do

next or fear whats coming your way either!

Source put my staircase there. And my

Emotional Guidance System tells me when
my next step is ON or OFF of MY staircase!
When you think about your relationship or
how you feel about your partner, you must
also use your Emotional Guidance System.
When you are feeling negative (emotions
on the right side of the chart) the thoughts,
inclinations and self-talk you hear in your
head is NOT your Inner Wisdom.

By following my strategic approach to Inner

Wisdom, I have released my need to find
certainty through control and found my way
of being certain within. I know that I am
guided at every moment, and I choose my

When you are feeling grateful, appreciative,

hopeful, optimistic or any of the feelings
on the left side of the Emotional Guidance
System chart, your thoughts, inclinations and
next steps are guided by your Inner Wisdom!

Many people focus on wanting certainty,

certainty to know what is the best thing for
them to do, what the future will hold, which
way to choose. Its human nature. Except
that we cant control anyone other than
ourselves and we cant predict the future.

Dont engage with your partner, blame them

or try to fix your relationship when you
are firmly planted on the right side of the
Emotional Guidance System chart! No good
can come from that. Thats why couples
work doesnt work! Because when TWO
people get together and they are BOTH on
the right side of the emotional chart, its only
going to make the relationship worse.
Blaming your partner, or thinking you will just
leave and find a different relationship that
will be better, is not the answer. You must do
the work. A great first step is to listen to our
audio program, How to Transform Your
Relationship in Eight Steps. It will help
you get onto the left side of the Emotional
Guidance System chart and empower you
with the tools to keep yourself (and your

No one can tell you long term what the answer
will be. There is no crystal ball and no one
can predict the future. However, moment to

moment you can access your Inner Wisdom

and be guided to the best outcome for you
and your family.
All the guidance, answers, certainty you want

Meaningful
Creating

Family Time

BY RENE PETERSON TRUDEAU

n junior high I often visited my friend

Kims house, and I dont recall a single
time when her parents and teenage
brother were not all yelling at one
another. Its like they were preparing
for a play, and they were constantly
rehearsing the fight scene.
Maybe family time at your house is
less than ideal. You may have gotten
stuck in a pattern of arguing, retreating
to separate rooms, and checking out
by plugging into media, or maybe
one parent is frequently gone, so just
gathering can be a feat unto itself?!
Where to start? With baby steps and a lot
of self-compassion. Just keep it simple,
begin and acknowledge where you
are, and build from there. Consider the
following ideas for creating meaningful
connections with your family:
CREATE SOME SHORT, SIMPLE RITUALS.
During those moments when the family
is all together naturally during meals,
at bed-time, first thing in the morning
create little rituals to remind everyone to
see and really connect with each other.
In our house, before each meal, we say

68

SCHEDULE FAMILY DINNERS

TOGETHER.
Treat family dinners like any other
important commitment and schedule
them on set evenings. You may need to
get creative if your schedules are erratic:
Mom has dinner with one child earlier
and Dad has dinner with another child
later, or Tuesdays and Thursdays are
family dinner nights.
EACH DAY, HAVE EACH FAMILY
MEMBER SHARE ABOUT THEIR DAY.
During dinner or at bedtime, make
sure everyone has a chance to talk
about what they did and how they feel.

This could be as simple as asking for a

thumbs-up or a thumbs-down where
everyone shares their highs and lows for
the day. Even teenagers seem to respond
to this wording.
TRY 10-ON-10S.
This was a popular term in the 1970s in
marriage counseling; it referred to having
Mom and Dad spend ten minutes right
after work decompressing and sharing
about their day. But its still a great idea,
and it works for the whole family. Ellen, a
single mom, has 10-on-10s and snacks
with her two young sons right when they
walk in the door from school. Its a great
way to connect and shift gears before
dinner. Her boys love it!
ONCE A WEEK, GET TOGETHER
UNPLUGGED.
Make sure that every week, for an
afternoon, evening, or whole day, your
entire family gathers to relax and have fun
as a group. As with dinners, schedule this
time ahead. Most of all, turn off the TV
and iPad; family time unplugged can be
a catalyst for all kinds of adventures and
new ways to be together.
PLAN FAMILY DATE NIGHTS.
Schedule an evening once a month for
an extraspecial family fun night. Get the
entire familys input on what they want to
do, and try to make it unusual or out of the
ordinary: perhaps dim sum and bowling,
a picnic outdoors and stargazing, going
to a major art museum, or preparing a
unique gourmet feast at home.

69

RELATIONSHIPS

eyes and take a moment to look each

other in the eyes; yes, my son thinks this
is kooky, but hes gotten used to it! This
ritual could be as simple as giving long
hugs before each person leaves for the
day, having a midday check-in to really
hear how each persons day is going, or
sharing a heartfelt I love you at night.

SYNC UP EVERYONES CALENDAR

EACH MONTH.
Dont leave family time
to chance. Sit everyone
down together with
their calendars, go over
the months activities,
and make sure family
time is scheduled like
every other commitment. This usually
means making hard choices perhaps
canceling some activities or saying no
but its worth it. It also sends the
message to everyone in your tribe that
family comes first.
INTRODUCE OR BRING BACK A
BELOVED BEDTIME RITUAL.
I know some families that still read to
their kids at night before bed, and their
children are sixteen! If youve fallen out
of this routine, bring it back, or introduce
a new communal family bedtime ritual:
snuggle in Mom and Dads bed or on
the couch, read out loud a book you
all enjoy, do round-robin storytelling, or
share back or foot massages.
GET CREATIVE WITH FAMILY TRIPS.
Of course, taking yearly, extended family
vacations ensures quality time together,
but these arent always possible, so think
outside the box. Instead, plan separate,
shorter, mother/daughter and father/
son vacations. Plan a series of day trips
to unusual spots. If parents travel, plan
for group Skype calls. If your kids have
left the nest, maybe organize a weekend
family reunion.
SCHEDULE REGULAR FAMILY
MEETINGS.
These could be monthly, quarterly, or as
needed, but they would be expressly for

70

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

taking care of family business: to share

important news, resolve issues, discuss
disagreements, or plan for upcoming
events. Let all family members propose
agenda items (keep a running list on the
fridge), ask that everyone come with an
open heart (we like to sit on the floor in
a circle), listen as much as you talk, set
a time limit for the meeting, start with a
kudos for each person, and encourage
problem solving and brainstorming.
Having a talking stick can help avoid
interruptions so everyone is heard.
CREATE A FAMILY VISION BOARD.
These are great ways for everyone
to express and share their dreams
and desires. Have each person
brainstorm and choose three words
and some corresponding images
from a magazine that represent the
kind of year (or upcoming season)
he or she would like to have.
Everyone takes turns sharing what
they chose, and why. Then paste or
tape all the words and images on
a large piece of paper for display
in a prominent place.
What ideas come to mind as
you contemplate consciously
scheduling family time to be
together? What are ways you
already enjoy being together?
What are things you used to do as a
family, or that you once did as a young
child, that you may want to reintroduce?
Make this easy and work for you so
it will stick.
As you consider these things and
develop new habits and routines,
keep a few things in mind. First of all,
acknowledge that it will take work. I
know how difficult it can be creating

Then, during those weeks when it feels

like youre moving mountains, remember
what a huge impact time together makes
on your familys well-being. In my family,
everyones week is significantly improved
when we create

youll discover what the Mormon mom

shared: the more time families spend
together, the more time they want to be
together. When we relate to each other
on a deeper level, this time together
nourishes us and we begin to long for it.
Finally, remember that its all about
balance. We cant do everything all
the time. Adopting a good is good
enough mindset helps. Some weeks we
may have less family time than we want
if we have a big deadline at work, and
other weeks we may get less done on
the home or professional front if were
spending more time with our family.
There is so much joy, learning, growth,
and new perspectives available to us
when we begin to really slow down, be
more present, and fully show up to and
for our family members. As you spend
more time together as a family, youll
be amazed by all the good thats right
there in front of you.

7 ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLES

TO SHIFT YOUR

Mindset
BY SHELLEY RIUTTA, MSE, LPC

hen you shift your mindset from one of scarcity and lack to abundance it flows into
other areas of your life too. Youll discover the more you focus on what you do have youll
find an abundance of time, money, love and opportunities coming your way. Here are seven
abundance principles and some empowering exercises to help you shift your mindset.

74

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE
NUMBER 1:

Wealthy people say, I create my life. People

who struggle with money say, Life happens
to me. Who do you blame for your money
issues? Here are forms of falling into the
Victim: blaming, justifying and complaining.

CAREER/BUSINESS

Let go of your victim stance

around money.

YOUR BELIEFS ARE

PICTURED IN YOUR
EXPERIENCES---YOU
WILL GET WHAT YOU
EXPECT AND WHAT
YOU THINK YOU
DESERVE. WHAT YOU
BELIEVE WILL ACT AS
TRUE.

EXERCISE #1:

Right now, write

down the people and the situations that
you feel block you from having more
money. Take back full responsibility
and say, I am 100 % responsible
for what happens in my life around
Money.

EXERCISE #2:

Notice when you

are justifying and saying things like,
Money isnt important to me If you told
anyone important in your life, You are
not important to me then they would
not like to be around you. The same
thing goes with money! If you say it
isnt important, than there probably
wont be a lot of it in your life!

EXERCISE #3:

Complainingtry
to eliminate complaining completely
in your life. Experiment with not
complaining for 3 days and see what it
is like. Ask your family and friends to
point out when you are doing it so you
can become more aware of how much
you are doing.

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE 2:

Your beliefs will create your

experiences.
Your beliefs are pictured in your experiences--you will get what you expect and what you
think you deserve. What you believe will act
as true.

EXERCISE: Notice how your beliefs are

pictured in your experience. Take what

you are experiencing and say What
beliefs would someone have to have
to create this experience? Example:
Continuing to attract clients who cant
afford your services reflects beliefs of
not truly valuing what you do. It could
also reflect a belief that you feel there
arent people out there who could afford
it. You are projecting your own scarcity
mentality onto them, and actually framing
them as a victim rather than a powerful
abundant spiritual being.

75

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE
NUMBER 3:

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE
NUMBER 4:

Pay attention to money in a

positive way and not a fear
based negative way.

Shift from a belief in Scarcity to

a belief in Abundance.

However you pay attention to money is how

you will continue to experience it. Example:
If you stress and obsess you will create
more situations to stress and obsess about.
If you are grateful and have fun with money
you will create more situations that create
gratefulness and fun.
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES:
1. Make paying your bills an act of
gratefulness and sharing, I love that I
have the abundance to pay these bills.
Feel the gratitude and love for each thing
you are paying for. Example: When
paying your electric bill, say out loud,
I really love and appreciate the light in
my home and that I can play and dance
to my favorite music, etc.
2. Plan fun things with your money
3. Buy a wallet that reflects fun and
abundance
4. Celebrate the money that does come in
and pay attention to iteven finding a
pennywhat you think about expands.
5. Invest your money in things that offer
you return on your investment. Example:
business building programs, trainings that
will allow you to charge more and grow
your business etc., programs that stretch
and expand you to your higher self.

76

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

Think in terms of Universal Abundance

rather than lack and Scarcity. It can be
helpful to shift your mindset of the Source
of Abundance, which is God or Spirit and is
unlimited. If you think in human terms you
think of human constraints and you think of
external circumstances as having the ability
to limit you. If you think of your Source of
your Abundance is from your employer and
you get laid off, you can get into scarcity
thinking very quickly. But if you shift into
your true Source of abundance which is God
or Spirit, you can feel more peace knowing
there is unlimited opportunities for jobs to
come to you.

FOCUS ON ABUNDANCE: When

you are having a thought, check yourself
and ask, Is this a scarcity thought or a
abundance thought?

TALK OF ABUNDANCE TO OTHERS:

REMOVE THE SCARCITY MENTALITY:

Never think of yourself as being poor or
needy.

BE GRATEFUL: Do not think of how little

you have, but of how much you have.

EXERCISE:

Shift your mindset from

Scarcity to Abundance can help in
other areas of your life too---there is
abundance of time, money, love and
opportunities. When you get into fear
or lack you have tapped into some sort
of scarcity thinking.

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE
NUMBER 5:

Open up to Receive Abundance.

So often there is a block to receiving
that people lack the capacity to receive
abundance. Are you able to receive in the
same way that you are able to give?

EXERCISE:
1.
Recognize how you see yourself
deserving abundance. Rate yourself
on how you feel right now about
deserving abundance. What needs

2. Consciously open up to abundance.

Close your eyes and open your
arms. Say out loud, I am open
to receiving incredible abundance
right now! Feel abundance in all
forms moving towards you and
bring your arms in fully receiving this
abundance. Notice how this feels.

CAREER/BUSINESS

Use statements such as: I am doing

AMAZING , I am so blessed , I am excited
about the future , Im sure so and so will
get an even better job , I know this will lead
to even better things and When one door
closed and even bigger and better door flies
wide open!

to happen for you to feel like you

deserve abundance?

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE #6:

Look Act and Think

Abundantly.
If you have been struggling financially you have
been stuck in old patterns of limited thinking and
lack. Practicing acting, thinking, and looking
abundant can help shift this tremendously.
Look abundant---do you present yourself as
reflecting abundance or lack?

WHEN YOU WANT TO FEEL

ABUNDANT, WEAR YOUR NICEST
OUTFIT. If you only have one, then wear
it every day. What clothes do you have that
look and feel prosperous to you? Release
clothes that need repair or that you no
longer feel good in and only wear colors and
clothes that reflect where you want to go,
not where you have been.

ACT ABUNDANTLY.

What acts of
abundance can you do to reinforce this? It
could be going out for dinner and ordering
anything you would like without looking at
the prices. If you can only do this once a
month, then do it. Go into nice places and
affirm that you belong there and you deserve

77

this kind of abundance around you. Go

to the fanciest places in town and absorb
the feeling of abundance. Buy flowers for
yourself or go test drive a new car.

ABUNDANCE PRINCIPLE #7:

Create a Big Vision for Your

Life and be willing to Invest
in Yourself.
In times like these, many people hold back
in fear not wanting to rock the boat. I had
a client who has made amazing progress,
and is one of the most prosperous thinkers
I know. His brother got laid off from his job
and wanted to go find any kind of job just
to have work. My client said to him, You
are not going to do that. Get on the phone
and find a job doing what you love to do.
He affirmed a vision of this at a time when
his brother could move upwards and not
backwards. Sure enough, his brother got an
even better job that was more in alignment
with his potential.
Watch your own steps at holding yourself
back in fear rather than stepping out in faith

and trust. Treat whatever happens as a way

to move you forward and upward rather than
backward. Start to connect with the highest
vision for your life and take steps to get
there. Know that as you do this divine ideas
will be coming to you and supporting you
every step of the way. Be clear and definite
about your desires and WRITE them down.

TIME MANAGEMENT
HABITS that are
GOOD for
YOUR BUSINESS
BY KELLYANN SCHAEFER

ot all habits are bad you know

Creating good habits in your life and

business are a simple way to get more done
and still have time for fun. If youre anything
like me, then living life and being happy is
extremely important to you. Here are five
time management tips that help me, as
well as my clients, reach our personal
and business goals.

Map out a month in advance:

(at least!)
You know how fast time flies, so
planning out a month in advance should
be very easy. I personally plan out 3
months at a time. It keeps me focused
and my eyes on the next big things that
are happening.

79

Put aside about an hour or so, pull out

all your calendars the online one and
the backup paper calendar. Be sure to
highlight all the big dates coming up.
Especially with the holidays coming in
on us so fast. Youll want to include all
the holiday parties. Kids school events.
Big business launches. Travel. You
name it!!

By knowing all at once what is coming

up, you can better plan for your needs.

The weekly project plan:

Each week (Sunday works best ) map
out the entire week coming up. Review
all the musts and like tos. Get the family
together to review the plan in advance.

4
Let them know this is going to be a very
busy week and this is what we need to
do collectively as a family to manage
this together
By calling in the people who are nearest
you, youll be better supported than if

80

www.AspireMAG.net | April / May 2015

they think you just dont have time

for them that their needs are not
important. Be sure everyones needs
for the week are addressed up front.

The Lists:
While mapping out your calendar and
reviewing the week ahead, its helpful to
jot down your needed to-dos and tasks
for the week. What are the priorities?
I LOVE index cards. Its the simplest
way to keep lists. I use a color-coded
system that coincides with my color
coded calendar. So for ex: I use yellow
for family/ Purple for marketing needs
for my biz/ Red for client needs (billable
hours ). I have other color codes as
well, but these are the ones I use most
often while Im writing out lists on the
index cards.

Block out the time:

This is by far the hardest habit of all
Creating the blocked time to accomplish
your above tasks and STICKING to it!!
By blocking out the time, you are
maximizing the hours that you currently
have. I personally have blocked out
time before, but finding myself doing
other things during that time. But when
I do STICK to it, it is such a rewarding
feeling!!
Block out time and cluster similar tasks.
Make all your phone calls in one block of
time. Follow up with all your networking
needs in one block time. Do all your

Set a limit:
When blocking out time for specific
tasks, its also very useful to put an
expectation on your time frame. This is
actually a fun trick!
Parkinsons Law states
that the amount of time
that one has to perform
a task is the amount
of time it will take to
complete the task.
So for example when you sit at your
computer to write a blog. Schedule the
block time and give it a set amount of
time. If I know it generally takes me
45 minutes to an hour to write a blog

post, I need to set that schedule on my

calendar. If I block out time form 9-11:30
to do a blog post, by Parkinsons Law
the task will fill that time allotted. BUT,
if I allow myself form 9-10 on a Monday
morning to write a blog post I will likely
complete the task in that amount of
time.
I know these habits all seem so simple,
but just knowing about them
doesnt give us the same results
