ROAD ACCIDENT REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2011.

State Crime Records Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram is maintaining database on Road
Accident cases in Kerala State in various parameters. The road accident details are available
from 2000 onwards.

The total number of accident cases during the year 2010 was 35082 which
decreased to 35216 in the corresponding year 2011. When compared 2010 the total
number of accident cases reported in 2011 shows an increase of 0.38% (134).

very high in the districts of

Alappuzha (415),Palakkad (392). Ernakulam Rural (355) Thrissur Rural (347),

Thiruvananthapuram Rural (346) and Malappuram (324)

The number of grievously injured road accident cases is very high in districts of
Ernakulam Rural (2526) Thiruvananthapuram Rural (2230),Kottayam (2103) and
Thrissur Rural (2072). The reporting of grievously injured road accident cases is
highest in Ernakulam range (8617).

districts
of
Thiruvananthapuram
Rural
(184),
Alappuzha
(125)
and
Thiruvananthapuram City (122), The reporting of accident cases by KSRTC buses
is highest in Trivandrum range (509) among the ranges and lowest Kannur Range
(182).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by private buses is very high in districts
of Malappuram (467), Thrissur Rural (361), Kannur (328). The reporting of
accident cases by private buses is highest in Thrissur range (1278) and lowest
Thiruvnathapuram Range (519).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by Lorries are highest in districts of

Malappuram (256), Ernakulam Rural (206), Palakkadu (193). The reporting of
accident cases by Lorries is highest in Thrissur Range (707) and lowest
Thiruvananthapuram Range (324).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by Mini lorries & Buses are highest in
districts Thiruvananthapuram Rural (198), Ernakulam rural (173) and Alappuzha
(170).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by Car is very high in district of

Thrissur (947), Ernakulam Rural (916) Alappuzha (865)and Malappuram (809).
The reporting of accident cases by Car is highest in Ernakulam range (3425) and
lowest Kannur Range (1522).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by Jeeps is very high in districts of

Idukki (149) Malappuram (110) Kozhikkode rural (101) and Kannur (91).

The number of vehicle involved accidents by Auto Rickshaws is very high in

districts of
Malappuram (710), Thrissur Rural (568), Kottayam (555) and
Ernakulam rural (526). The reporting of accident cases by Auto Rickshaws is
highest in Ernakulam range (2158) and lowest range is Kannur range (1207) among
the ranges.

Ernakulam rural (2465),Alappuzha (2267) Thrissur Rural (2044) and
Thiruvananthapuram Rural (1960). The reporting of accident cases by two
wheelers is highest in Ernakulam range (8019) and lowest range is kannur range
(3259).

of Alappuzha (1247), Kollam City (948) and Thrissur Rural (921).

The number of road accidents is very high on State Highways in the districts of
Palakkad (656), Ernakulam Rural (631), Malappuram (605) and Trissur Rural
(503).

The number of accident cases due to Rash Driving by vehicle drivers is very high
in districts of Ernakulam Rural (3201) Alappuzha (2913) and Trissur Rural (2712).
The reporting of accident cases due to Rash Driving by vehicle drivers is highest
in Ernakulam range (11414).

The number of accident cases during the day time is very high in districts of
Ernakulam Rural (2414) Alappuzha (2133) and Malappuram (2120).

The number of accident cases during the Night is very high in districts of
Alappuzha (870), Ernakulam Rural (851) and.The reporting of accident cases
during the Night is highest in Ernakulam range (3045).
The details are published in the Criminal Intelligence Gazette to create

awareness and educate the officers in Kerala Police on the reporting of road
accidents and the need for taking stringent awareness measures to bring down the
accidents. The cause of reporting accidents may be many and many of these factors
may not be there in police control.

But, sincere and committed efforts by Police

Officers will help considerably in bringing down the accidents.

The officers are expected to analyze the accidents further to find out the real
causes & local factors involved and take suitable measures to bring down the
accidents.
